  • Liza Tarbuck tearfully paid tribute to Steve Wright on the last ever episode of his Sunday Love Songs show as she asked listeners to 'light a candle' for the DJ following his 'sudden' death.
    The legendary BBC Radio 2 DJ died aged 69 on Monday - four years after his ex-wife passed away during Covid which made him 'completely shut down'.
    Presenting a special episode of Wright's Sunday Love Songs show this morning, Tarbuck said the show was going on but 'without the chief'. She also read out heartfelt tributes from listeners to the much-loved DJ.
    Tarbuck, 59, opened the 'Remembering Steve Wright' episode by saying: 'This is Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs but without the chief, without our genius friend.'
    Her voice shaking, she added: 'So while you're getting a tissue, I think it would be lovely if you lit him a candle. I make no apologies if I get upset over the next two hours and I don't think you should either.'
    Wright's final show was last Sunday, when he hosted a pre-recorded edition of his programme for Valentine's Day. Wright told listeners in his final sign-off: 'I'll be back for more love songs next Sunday, ta-da then.'

      Then when she shared her memory with Steve and then break when in the moment where she said that it was their last dance together and that broke me.

    Made sure i didn't oversleep for this one. Liza and the team deserves an award for presenting this" lovesongs" special, the nod to the "chief" and kicking in with listeners memories was simply beautiful, one listener saying she wrote to Steve to get a mention on her daughters wedding day, a sad Sunday but the listeners made it beautiful.

    I love a weekend lie in but would always get up at 9am to listen to Sunday Love Songs, even when we go away in our caravan I’d always spend those 2 lovely hours listening to Steve. I was gutted when his afternoon show ended but happy I would still be able to hear him on a Sunday but alas all good things come to an end. I will forever miss Steve’s shows as I do dear Terry Wogan’s. Those two were always there in the background of my life and it will never be the same. Liza’s tribute to him was lovely but so very sad. RIP Steve, you were a great DJ to grow up with.

      I think it is perfectly normal for people when they are sad to try to find blame and Helen Thomas has denied us all some more precious Steve Wright moments and that makes us angry. Not the time to chastise grief, is hard. @@KryptonitetoallBS

    • @KryptonitetoallBS
      @KryptonitetoallBS 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Clare1981 So you think it's perfectly okay to try and find blame for someone's death when Steve's brother has spoken publicly to explain what led to his death? Whether you agree or disagree with a particular decision taken by an employee of the BBC, it's staggering that you would choose a time like this to bring it up. I have had experience with grief and it is hard to deal with but it's no excuse for lashing out and bad mouthing others!! Steve Wright would be appalled if he thought his death had led to the scathing attacks we've seen on Helen Thomas!!

    • @andycross9840
      @andycross9840 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@KryptonitetoallBS Whether it is personal opinion or hearsay, the FACTS are that Helen Thomas basically cast Steve aside by tellling him his show was outdated and she wanted a 'fresh' approach (not my words, this is what Steve Wright himself said). The man had been doing this for over two decades, it was his 'life' and reason for getting out of bed every day - Thomas took that from him! Of course Steve isn't going to say that publicly and throw her under the bus.....you could tell the man didn't have in him to do that.......the polar opposite of her it appears! She has 'some' blood on her hands, the quantity is irrelevant.

    I rather suspect that many of us are genuinely furious at the way in the BBC so flippantly ditched such wonderfully loved presenters over the past few years, but do you know what has truly surprised me? This terribly sad time we have all had to come to terms with has revealed what a beautiful, close-knit family of genuine friends the 'old team' of the BBC were. No amount of genuinely cruel, 'positive discrimination' could ever give rise to such a sincerely warm family of independently brilliant talent the Beeb of yesteryear once boasted. I really do believe the BBC should hang their heads in shame over this - genuinely I do. Thank you Liza for such a touching tribute: you are a gem in the midst of a darkening world yourself my lovely and we love you. God bless.

    The Possie ⚠️
    Sid the Manager
    Mr ANGRY
    Mr Mad
    Ask Elvis
    Linda Lust
    Old Woman
    Gervais the hairdresser
    Hopeless Weather girl
    Damian the Social Worker
    Barry from Watford
    The Pub singer would keep us entertained.
    Show was a tad silly but definitely made the working afternoon pass quicker !!
    My 1st job after training for 18 months as a Radar engineer in the RAF , was at RAF Locking in 1981.
    In 1T hangar where Radio 1 would be playing, Steve Wright came on who I'd not heard before. I was instantly hooked.
    He would go right up close to the microphone and say
    "C'mon touch your radio and feel the warmth of my sincerity " 😎
    I could not believe it when BBC bosses axed his show in 2022
    I cannot listen to Steve's replacement Scott Mills instead I listen to my own music collection instead.
    Too young to go Steve RIP 💜
    Strange this tragedy has happened in the same week BBC are dismantling Wogan house.
    Nobody has mentioned this butmy belief is Steve couldn't face seeing his studio dismantled and basically destroyed.Dacades of memorabilia GONE.Did Steve died of a broken 💔?RIP Steve.
    You have been my afternoons since 1981 x
