When people could take a joke and weren't offended by everything...love Barry
Right?! Conservative Boomer types are so offended by everyone else’s mere existence, they really should just get over it.
oh i don't think so. people were hurt back then since we're all human. claire clearly was. it's just that people had to pretend to not be crying inside to make others happy. i prefer now.
THOSE were THE DAYS!
HEY
David was offended. Look at his face.
When interviewers asked a question and then kept quiet and let their guests ramble. How I wish they would do that now.
Except Graham Norton. Love him.
The Brit interviewers usually had better manners than Anerican hosts.
Tell Fiona Bruce that!!!😅
You are so right. Michael Parkinson, Terry Wogan, Steve Wright. The masters of interviewing who listened and understood it wasn’t about them. All gone sadly.
What a true point !
As an aussie, I love Dame Edna but truth is, I'm here to gawk at David Essex. I had such a crush on him back in the day. 😍
I’m an Aussie too & had a huge crush on him back in the day, still do…♥️
Go girls ❤❤❤❤❤
Me too.......
@@colleenrichards5662 And he is still gorgeous today!! ❤
@@beulah3484 💙 I know…!! He certainly got better with age, IF that’s possible….💙💙
How can a magnificent rare COMEDIC GENIUS like Barry have left us? Never ever will there be another. A gift from Australia to the world. We love you Barry. RIP.
Totally hilarious
Perfectly well said !!! There will never be one like him.
Why is everyone talking about Barry Humphries? Sure he was a great manager but Dame Edna was the the real comedic genius!
They’ll never be another. Absolutely wonderful Barry Humphries, who gave laughter and happiness to millions
Dame Edna is so quick, she's slightly had a pop at them before they realise 😂. I think David Essex was confused about it all 😂
No one stands a chance when Dame Edna's on.
Clare Rayner played the stooge to Edna brilliantly! Who knew she had such a great sense of humour.
Thank you, my thoughts exactly.
Dame Edna has left the building- Thanks for all those laughs
We NEED Dame Edna TODAY!
For sure!!
Desperately !
Martin Short is recently doing a character named Jimminy Glick . He's sort of a male Dame Edna.
Claire Rayner was so nice for letting Dame Edna lean on her for laughs. I'm sure she knew ahead of the show that this was going to happen.
With Dame Edna, I always loved how everybody bought into the act. Barry Humpries was a comedy genious.
If people 'bought into the act', it's not their fault. What did you expect them to do? Lift HIS skirts, tear HIS tights, to check?
@@MJ-hl1kk Get over yourself, people who didn't want to be around Edna simply chose not to. You can too.
@@truerosie Don't tell me what to do. It's my opinion and it was not addressed to you!
@MJ-hl1kk you seem so very confused. Bless your heart.
@@tiffytattoo2450 No, I'm not confused, unfortunately for you. I was just commenting on some people's taste in humor, which I find crass in every way. Looks like you have taken that personally. And that's good!👍
Clare Rayner was such a good sport here bless her x
I absolutely love it when she completely takes over the show at the end and thanks everyone as her guests, including the host! haha!
Yeah, you would also do that, I'm sure, seeing that you're such an admirer of GROSS.
@@MJ-hl1kkWhat do you mean by that? What are you saying is gross?
@@lucpraslan Just ignore them.
Saw a Dame Edna show in London in the 90s. Quite possibly the funniest show I've ever seen.
RIP Barry Humphries and thank you for all you gave us ❤
Yes I used to look forward to it on Saturday evenings. He had stellar guests, like Tom Jones and Lauren Bacall for eg.
I saw the Dame in San Francisco.
Dame Edna was hilarious. Loved the interaction with Clare Rayner she was great.
One of best comics to ever grace the earth.... Barry's wit is razor sharp.... brilliant
Indeed. Very well said.
David essex one lovely.looking man x
Was this universe ever big enough to contain her? lovely to find interviews like this, those laughs just keep on comin!
Love that Clare Rayner is up,for a laugh
"Goodness knows what you get, darling."
Definitely can’t get comedy like that anymore-hilarious! 😂😂😂
Princess Diana's very very er...dead.
was there anybody left that Edna didn't insult....😂😂😂😂😂..Brilliant
'David the little gypsy" hahahaha
Interestingly, his mother really was a 'gypsy' or 'Irish traveller'.
Love Dame Edna and Clare Rayner is a brilliant sport and what a lovely talking voice she has. X
I loved dame Edna I always about died laughing at her you never know what she was going to say
Always loved Dame Edna. Naturally funny
Love David Essex.
Love Dame Edna.
Couldn’t have a talent like Dame Edna today-someone would get ‘offended’ , be ‘traumatised’ need therapy, and have him banned
Quite right. And our loss
She’d be cancelled within one interview sadly
Not in Australia.
There's still Jiminy Glick.
@@antrimlariot2386 now i have to go and find out who this is
What a gift to the world Dame Edna was. Thank you forever, ol' Barry! ❤❤❤❤❤
So true !
Dame Edna was brilliantly funny! Thanks for sharing!
CREAKING chairs what genius purchased them ?
Rest in Peace Barry!
No one will ever come close to her. 💗💗💗
Great times when people weren't offended over everything
Dame's outfit is GENIUS!
The lady in the tie is certainly taking her jabs with good humor.
When we were allowed to have free comedy❤
Thanks for been on this dull planet the genius of Barry humphries
Spot on !!!
Ooooo glorious. ❤❤❤💓💓💓We miss you dame Edna 🙏
Nothing and nobody was sacred to Dame Edna.
Michael Aspel is a true professional. He's such a gentleman ....and has a great sense of humour. He knew that giving Humpries free rein would make great television - and so just let him loose 😆
Loved her !!!!😁
Those were the days. I miss them so much.
I couldn't stand Barry Humpries! "and yet" I have to say that Dame Edna was so iconic and legendary. There are so few who could have pulled off such a unique and beloved character.
And what about Sir Les Patterson?
There was also another character of Sandy Stone
The thing is, this isn't really a drag act because Edna is an exaggerated version of a real woman. She's one of the women Barry observed while growing up in suburban Melbourne. She isn't effeminate.
From the days when LWT brought us huge talent compared to the banality of today’s ITV led by Carlton.
Really funny comedians like Dame Edna and Little Britain would never be allowed in this boring political correct time.
Love Little Britten. And the Fast Show. Suit you sir!!
Yes. The soul has gone out of comedy these days.
We’ve all lost Barry now … but my God … he lives on and continues to make us HOWL ❤🏴
I love how his ploy on every interview was to take over the show and then thank everyone for coming. He was as aussie as Vegemite. Miss your talent, mate.
Gotta love Dame Edna!
Once in a century . Absolutely unforgettable !!!
Truth !
Bravo Claire Rayner and Bravo Michael Aspel. Marvellous. 6
God I miss the dame
Miss her 😪 So glad I went to her show.
Wow! Dame Edna is a force of Nature! and David Essex was the best possible sport to play along!
Dame Edna, the Legend. Highly intelligent with a super sharp sense of humour. How I miss her/him.
Brilliant🤣🤣
just a note - david essex was a heartthrob in the 70s and 80s. i feel like that has been written out of history.
Not my history!😂
Especially in the mid 70's and with his film Stardust. I was one of the few in my class that didn't fancy him. I found him ....squirmy lol
The woke brigade would hate her 🤣🤣👍
Not at all. It's the anti-woke brigade that has no sense of humour.
You have that quite twisted around
Barry would have used the woke movement as fodder.
The best of drag and humor🖤
David Essex in 1985!!! Were we ever really that young and beautiful ?
I think we were. What happened over the decades?
Michael Aspel was such a dashing looking man. Even now, at age 91 and living with lymphoma, he's amazing. I'm sure many talk show hosts still look up to him.
Love Her, i was there when i was young and Gorgeous too 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's like Dame Edna. Appears to be giving them a, compliment at the same time insulting them... 😂😂😂Very clever.....
Gos, I really miss Dame Edna…We sure could do with her in this miserable world…Thank you Barry Humphrey’s….Thank you so very much for all the laughter……You are sadly missed….
he was hilarious!!! bless his soul.
So funny! Priceless comedy!
Oh, Dame Edna, we miss you!
Michael always gets an easy ride with Dame Edna on the show. He asks one question and off she goes for half hour 😆
Off the cuff humour, he was absolutely lightening fast !
Claire Raynor appeared on a show with Les Patterson called lunch with Les 1991 also on TH-cam very funny
Do yourselves a favour and watch it,classic Les….no worries!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Wonderful!
😂 Dame Edna made a pass at Aspel and made him blush.
We can recognize David's shirt style being featured again on one of Seinfeld's episodes 😊
a legend across the galaxy, and perhaps beyond... :-)
His.her improvisation which it all is, is sign of genius. These are all spontaneous jokes and quips...una machina :-)
Just sheer brilliance!
1:51 Thanks for clearing that up.
Very nostalgic ❤
David Essex is 76 years old now.
No! Oh my god. I had a crush on him in the 1970s and I still think of him as being young .
David Essex wow ❤❤
Dressed fromm chubby browns wardrobe😂😂
Chubby wore her cast offs!
Michael perfectly riding the torrent from Dame Edna’s brain. It’s also ole as ing to see the guests playing along, although their opportunities to discuss their work was clearly compromised.
We’ve all experienced a stud or a sleeper. Brilliant
Wonderful. With David Essex and Claire Rayner
she was mad but so funny. RIP Barry...
This is a lady / man I respect tells they truth all they time
"returning from Megiddo" very good.
Is that the puffy shirt that featured in the Seinfeld episode?
Maybe where they got the idea from.
😂
Shame they couldn't have given her a chair that didn't squeak. On the plus side, she's a fantastic guest, and so funny 👏 😂
Poor David can’t get a word in 😂
She was amazing, as was her much-maligned manager.
God be with the days.
Claire took that so well.
When female impersonators were the comedy turn rather than running for election.
Good Morning Chickens Dame Edna simply the best 😘🤩🥰😍✌💅
HEY !-Is that fellow wearing a "PUFFY_SHIRT"-???
David Essex is looking as gorgeous as ever
That was a snarky comment from Raynor. Dame Edna said to her "Dear woman" Raynor replied "I can't say the same to you"
What on earth is Claire Rayner wearing never mind Dame Edna's outfit ??!!
Such incredible modesty my little darlings 😂😂😂😂
"Helv?" haha
