Hello Canada, it truly is the simple things that are most important. A place to sleep, a place to eat, family and friends. Hammocks are excellent all seasons especially Spring in summer when it’s wet on the ground and our tonnes of bugs.

Nothing but little sprinkles, hardly got wet. Reminds me when I was Stationed in Panama. You could watch the rain coming. I could walk faster than it was moving, saved me many times from getting drenched.
Sam, it was actually like a monsoon. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced rain like that before, it was as if in the shower. The stream swelled greatly and if I were lying down in that bedroll, I would’ve been swept away. That rain was brutal and it was very hard to depict on camera because in person it was extraordinary. I had to head off to catch a train and even if I were wearing raingear, I would’ve still been soaked because it was just such powerful rain and it was even hard to see in front of you.

Greetings Indiana, thanks the acknowledgement, yes indeed a sparker, the right tool for the job, coupled with the right technique. The mattress is the most comfortable I’ve ever used out in the bush. I have quite a variety of high-end air mattresses and I must say that this is the best of them all. It’s a wee bit bulky but outweighs the size. The price is amazing as well when a top-line backpacking mattress can be up to $300 and one this is one is under $100. I do have the all of their Bushpots, even the new small one and the extra large. I’ve been using them for years so I have quite a collection from SRO. When you check out some of my other videos you will see quite a bit of their stuff. Exactly Craig, we’re just adapt and overcome. The woods, just as life is like that. Always adjusting and fixing. However, it’s a self-reliance that matters. When I lived back in the weather will always switch. Five different different weather fronts in one day. I had a great time though, and this made for a great adventure. Even though I was shivering back on the train home until I threw my jumper on, because they had the AC pumping through the cars.
I enjoyed watching you use very old school gear and techniques in your video! I see a lot of Pathfinder kit there. I would suggest a tarp as well though!😂 You did that flint and steel like a pro. I struggle with that for some reason. Great video. Thanks😊
Hi Doug, glad to hear you enjoyed the adventure. yes, Pathfinder makes good durable kit that I can rely on. if you watched the previous video, I do have a poncho/tarp set up with the bedroll, however, with this trip I wished to go very light and even perhaps not fully prepared on purpose. As I wrote in the description and pinned comment. The conditions aren’t always going to be ideal and there are going to be sometimes when you’re not prepared and you have to dig yourself out of that situation. That’s where the adventure is, and that’s where the fun is. It would be a vacation if we were always fully prepared. Bushcraft is about not having ideal conditions, if that were to case I would have brought a tent and modern camping equipment and a lighter. The Bedroll is oilcloth making it waterproof/water-resistant I think I did a good job at improvising it over my head to wait out the rain. If I had more time, I would’ve built a canopy over the fire, but I had to catch train. I did get soaking wet en route to the train due to the fact I had no rain gear and was shivering on the train due to the AC on full blast so I grabbed my jumper and and put it on. It was still wet but wall keeps its insulation value up to 80% when wet so I was OK. well there’s the backstory. I hope you enjoyed it. Cheers, Doug.

man, that's 10 lbs more stuff than I carry. I use a modified Crunch multitool, so I can hold 1 of 3 different saw blades in the visegrip, but a Crunch is expensive. A little $5 visegrip, a 2 sided file, and a $40 Gerber will do the same thing. You can split wood with a saw, two ways, and there's almost never any need to split wood in the first place, if you know how to make an alternative Swedish fire torch and a Siberian fire lay. YT has vides on both. Use the Swede to ignite the Siberian, if all is wet.
You’re quite a minimalist. towards the end of the summer I certainly will carry even less but it depends on the mission I take up. I like to go out with different equipment every time, keeps it fun and exciting. The Swedish and Siberian I have used many times. I like improvised tools but only ones I craft out of wood. I’d love to see how you go out do you have a video I can check out?
Hello Jimmy, it's the best I have used and the most comfortable. I have a variety of outdoor mattresses from top-of-line companies and this is by far the best. It it most bulky than I would rather but the pros outweigh this con. You're going to love it.

But as a citizen of the state, I believe I’m entitled to use it as long as I clean up after myself and that should be the case for everyone. They just need to designate more wild areas for people to rewild themselves in.

I will carry out my bushcraft camping dreams here for now. People of thailand are HUGE campers but I call it GLAMPERS. It's funny they all copy each other with all the little camp setups. Mate anyone that's never tried spuds in the fire have no idea what their missing out on, some butter and salt and you will never want to eat them another way again, and that's what I call camping, but you can never depend on the weather, a tarp is an essential item that should be the first thing you pack, also just a tip to save time and energy, drag timber back to your camp site and process it there, saves making many trips to pick it up and carrying it back, unfortunately for me I'm to old and to many health issues to be able to camp like this anymore so I'm limited to car camping now.
Hello mate, yes the potatoes are quite amazing. I just added sprinkles of salt and it was good, they were nice and moist, maybe some butter or oil I don’t have any that was the point. Regarding a Tarp: yes, it is an essential item, however, if I was to do it again, I would probably go with my Poncho/Tarp, Bedroll set-up from the last video or indeed a Tarp (tarp and hammock I find are the best for rain). I was lucky that the bedroll is oilskin and that’s what I was betting on. I needed to catch a train and therefore didn’t finish cooking as you saw but if I had more time, I would’ve built a canopy over the fire from Mat I had and made a very small fire. I did end up getting soaked, but that was because I had to pack up and leave to catch the train walking in the rain for a few kilometres. There was zero rain in the forecast, but as you and I know rain can come out of nowhere as it did was torrential. That was some brutal rain I’ve ever encounter. But that’s the fun in it, not being prepared and dealing and adapting to situations. All that wood has never been closer. They were dead trees all around me and I didn’t have far to ago. I normally would cut down a dead standing tree, dragged into camp and process it there, however, this is my previous camp location so I had a lot of wood prepped from my last trip that I had hidden in a cache just a few meters away. I ended up getting rained out but that just made for a great adventure. I don’t always wanna be prepared because there’s no challenging that. Bushcraft is about not having much and being able to use what you have to get what you need. Thank you for your thoughts, my friend.

They provide relief in the heat in combination with my wet bandanna around my neck. Hello mate, that’s the pillow stuff sack compartment. You can put your nightly needs such as your sleeping cap and a jumper and use it as a pillow or stuff your extra jacket into it to make a pillow. I simply prefer two pillows and height.
I don't understand why you cooked everything in the ashes and had to deal with the gritty food. OK, the potatoes can be skinned but the sausages...? Why not cut a couple of skewers and keep them out of the ash? Our Australian aborigines cook their meat the same way, but it usually still has the fur on and that collects the ash so the meat is on the other side, ash free. Your equipment i what we call 'swagman' style, Pretty basic but all the essentials are there and easy to carry. Cheers from Down Under.
Oi mate, I cooked everything in the ash because I like to use different cooking methods for variety. Each time I go out I try to use a different technique and use a variety of equipment. I put myself in different situations in order to challenge myself. This keeps it fun and interesting, I could’ve used a Lighter as well, but that would’ve defeated the purpose of all this. I skewered sausage a couple of videos ago so it wouldn’t make sense to do the same. I love food cooked in Ash by the way. It imparts a smoky flavour which I enjoy very much, you should try it, it’s quite nice. Do watch some other video adventures so you will understand the concept. Cheers

Hello, I don’t carry a firearm nor do I need one. The only places I would carry a firearm would be in the Arctic where there are Polar bears or in the Savannah where are Lions. Or perhaps in the jungle. But definitely not in the peaceful forests that I frequently visit.
interesting, on top of a mountain where I was completely exposed to the elements during a massive snowstorm. It was unrelenting and I couldn’t get a fire going because the wind gusts were very high and there was barely any wood to burn. But I don’t see these as worse places I see them as challenges and I see them as fun. If everything were mild and calm it wouldn’t be an adventure, it would be a holiday.

Greetings Indiana, thanks the acknowledgement, yes indeed a sparker, the right tool for the job, coupled with the right technique. The mattress is the most comfortable I’ve ever used out in the bush. I have quite a variety of high-end air mattresses and I must say that this is the best of them all. It’s a wee bit bulky but outweighs the size. The price is amazing as well when a top-line backpacking mattress can be up to $300 and one this is one is under $100. I do have the all of their Bushpots, even the new small one and the extra large. I’ve been using them for years so I have quite a collection from SRO. When you check out some of my other videos you will see quite a bit of their stuff. Exactly Craig, we’re just adapt and overcome. The woods, just as life is like that. Always adjusting and fixing. However, it’s a self-reliance that matters. When I lived back in the weather will always switch. Five different different weather fronts in one day. I had a great time though, and this made for a great adventure. Even though I was shivering back on the train home until I threw my jumper on, because they had the AC pumping through the cars.
I enjoyed watching you use very old school gear and techniques in your video! I see a lot of Pathfinder kit there. I would suggest a tarp as well though!😂 You did that flint and steel like a pro. I struggle with that for some reason. Great video. Thanks😊
Hi Doug, glad to hear you enjoyed the adventure. yes, Pathfinder makes good durable kit that I can rely on. if you watched the previous video, I do have a poncho/tarp set up with the bedroll, however, with this trip I wished to go very light and even perhaps not fully prepared on purpose. As I wrote in the description and pinned comment. The conditions aren’t always going to be ideal and there are going to be sometimes when you’re not prepared and you have to dig yourself out of that situation. That’s where the adventure is, and that’s where the fun is. It would be a vacation if we were always fully prepared. Bushcraft is about not having ideal conditions, if that were to case I would have brought a tent and modern camping equipment and a lighter. The Bedroll is oilcloth making it waterproof/water-resistant I think I did a good job at improvising it over my head to wait out the rain. If I had more time, I would’ve built a canopy over the fire, but I had to catch train. I did get soaking wet en route to the train due to the fact I had no rain gear and was shivering on the train due to the AC on full blast so I grabbed my jumper and and put it on. It was still wet but wall keeps its insulation value up to 80% when wet so I was OK. well there’s the backstory. I hope you enjoyed it. Cheers, Doug.

Hello, the waxed cotton pillowcase is by PNW Bushcraft and the inflatable insert is by Cocoon, it’s called the Hyperlight.
man, that's 10 lbs more stuff than I carry. I use a modified Crunch multitool, so I can hold 1 of 3 different saw blades in the visegrip, but a Crunch is expensive. A little $5 visegrip, a 2 sided file, and a $40 Gerber will do the same thing. You can split wood with a saw, two ways, and there's almost never any need to split wood in the first place, if you know how to make an alternative Swedish fire torch and a Siberian fire lay. YT has vides on both. Use the Swede to ignite the Siberian, if all is wet.
You’re quite a minimalist. towards the end of the summer I certainly will carry even less but it depends on the mission I take up. I like to go out with different equipment every time, keeps it fun and exciting. The Swedish and Siberian I have used many times. I like improvised tools but only ones I craft out of wood. I’d love to see how you go out do you have a video I can check out?

Hello Jimmy, it's the best I have used and the most comfortable. I have a variety of outdoor mattresses from top-of-line companies and this is by far the best. It it most bulky than I would rather but the pros outweigh this con. You're going to love it.

Hello mate, it’s the same here. I just practice leave-no-trace principles. None of this land is mine and belongs to the state. But as a citizen of the state, I believe I’m entitled to use it as long as I clean up after myself and that should be the case for everyone. They just need to designate more wild areas for people to rewild themselves in.
@@TheLoreofBushcraft Definitely, everyone needs to get back to nature. When, I left the states a year ago, I was solo moto-camping across America. I did over 4k miles before I flew back to Thailand. I will carry out my bushcraft camping dreams here for now. People of thailand are HUGE campers but I call it GLAMPERS. It's funny they all copy each other with all the little camp setups. It's funny to watch. Anyway thank you. I will be 53 this year so I'm making every moment count.

Mate anyone that's never tried spuds in the fire have no idea what their missing out on, some butter and salt and you will never want to eat them another way again, and that's what I call camping, but you can never depend on the weather, a tarp is an essential item that should be the first thing you pack, also just a tip to save time and energy, drag timber back to your camp site and process it there, saves making many trips to pick it up and carrying it back, unfortunately for me I'm to old and to many health issues to be able to camp like this anymore so I'm limited to car camping now.
Hello mate, yes the potatoes are quite amazing. I just added sprinkles of salt and it was good, they were nice and moist, maybe some butter or oil I don’t have any that was the point. Regarding a Tarp: yes, it is an essential item, however, if I was to do it again, I would probably go with my Poncho/Tarp, Bedroll set-up from the last video or indeed a Tarp (tarp and hammock I find are the best for rain). I was lucky that the bedroll is oilskin and that’s what I was betting on. I needed to catch a train and therefore didn’t finish cooking as you saw but if I had more time, I would’ve built a canopy over the fire from Mat I had and made a very small fire. I did end up getting soaked, but that was because I had to pack up and leave to catch the train walking in the rain for a few kilometres. There was zero rain in the forecast, but as you and I know rain can come out of nowhere as it did was torrential. That was some brutal rain I’ve ever encounter. But that’s the fun in it, not being prepared and dealing and adapting to situations. All that wood has never been closer. They were dead trees all around me and I didn’t have far to ago. I normally would cut down a dead standing tree, dragged into camp and process it there, however, this is my previous camp location so I had a lot of wood prepped from my last trip that I had hidden in a cache just a few meters away. I ended up getting rained out but that just made for a great adventure. I don’t always wanna be prepared because there’s no challenging that. Bushcraft is about not having much and being able to use what you have to get what you need. Thank you for your thoughts, my friend.

Hello mate, thank you for your service. Well the trousers were not torn or ripped, these trousers are specially ventilated with zippers on the side. They provide relief in the heat in combination with my wet bandanna around my neck. Thank you for pointing that out and next time I will make a point of zipping and unzipping them in order to show that they are not ripped.

Hello mate, that’s the pillow stuff sack compartment. You can put your nightly needs such as your sleeping cap and a jumper and use it as a pillow or stuff your extra jacket into it to make a pillow. I simply prefer two pillows and height.

I don't understand why you cooked everything in the ashes and had to deal with the gritty food. OK, the potatoes can be skinned but the sausages...? Why not cut a couple of skewers and keep them out of the ash? Our Australian aborigines cook their meat the same way, but it usually still has the fur on and that collects the ash so the meat is on the other side, ash free. Your equipment i what we call 'swagman' style, Pretty basic but all the essentials are there and easy to carry. Cheers from Down Under.
Oi mate, I cooked everything in the ash because I like to use different cooking methods for variety. Each time I go out I try to use a different technique and use a variety of equipment. I put myself in different situations in order to challenge myself. This keeps it fun and interesting, I could’ve used a Lighter as well, but that would’ve defeated the purpose of all this. I skewered sausage a couple of videos ago so it wouldn’t make sense to do the same. I love food cooked in Ash by the way. It imparts a smoky flavour which I enjoy very much, you should try it, it’s quite nice. Do watch some other video adventures so you will understand the concept. Cheers

interesting, on top of a mountain where I was completely exposed to the elements during a massive snowstorm. It was unrelenting and I couldn’t get a fire going because the wind gusts were very high and there was barely any wood to burn. But I don’t see these as worse places I see them as challenges and I see them as fun. If everything were mild and calm it wouldn’t be an adventure, it would be a holiday.
