As someone who mostly reads genfic, tags really don't come up much with my reading habits. When I look for a fic it's usually because I stumbled across a recommendation somewhere, often in the form of a forum signature, often quoting some passage. And those can get pretty unhinged in their own way.

This reminds me, I just recently published a fic on AO3 with the tags "I'm sorry," "based on a true story," "kind of," "it makes sense at the end." In case you're wondering, it was a creepypasta type of story about Kid Icarus Uprising that was based on a dream I had. The story itself was honestly pretty generic as far as video game creepypastas go, right down to the dream happening at 3 AM.
