I read a fic recently that seemingly had no relation, a random tag said “Gordon Ramsay is canonically dead” or something along those lines, I was beginning to think it’s a crack fic, but no, the fic is dead serious and has a good plot and there’s a random scene where Gordon Ramsay’s ghost is there bc he died of food poisoning.
I started tagging some of my works as "no beta we die like my heterosexuality" if I don't have a character that dies both in canon and in the fic (or if no one dies). I also used "Just because they're my OTP doesn't mean they'll get a happy ending" four times.

I did also have the dead dove tag, so I was warned. Some of the other tags included: Piss inflation, General misuse of condoms, I'm sorry Michael Sheen and I'm not ashamed. It was insane, reading it.

Silly tags are just a part of Ao3's culture at this point, and I hope Ao3 never sees fit to "fix" the silly tags- it wouldn't be the same place without them. I do think people can be excessive with silly tags and they should be minimal, but you can have a crazy tag or two as a treat. Also a tag I saw recently was "Reader has issues". It made sense in context.
I live for silly tags on AO3. Personal favourites are fandom-specific non-betas, like "No beta, we die like X", with X being a canon character death. May the silly tags never get fixed. :P

I don't know why, one of my favourite tags is "no beta we die like X" because the X varies wildly. Best when fandom-specific, sometimes painful (like, why author, why -Tony, Hedwig, Dobby- for example) to simple wtf to sticks in the memory years later "No beta we die like Pepoer. This reminds me, I just recently published a fic on AO3 with the tags "I'm sorry," "based on a true story," "kind of," "it makes sense at the end." In case you're wondering, it was a creepypasta type of story about Kid Icarus Uprising that was based on a dream I had. The story itself was honestly pretty generic as far as video game creepypastas go, right down to the dream happening at 3 AM.
can I have a link? I would read both kid icarus and creepypasta fics when I was a kid and a fic based around a dream sounds fun!

@@hellsingmongrel I just checked and it's called the hedonist's wrath by burnt_rosemary. I saw the tags and put off reading it and then a week later I caved in and read it. I did also have the dead dove tag, so I was warned. Some of the other tags included: Piss inflation, General misuse of condoms, I'm sorry Michael Sheen and I'm not ashamed. It was insane, reading it.

Silly tags are just a part of Ao3's culture at this point, and I hope Ao3 never sees fit to "fix" the silly tags- it wouldn't be the same place without them. I do think people can be excessive with silly tags and they should be minimal, but you can have a crazy tag or two as a treat.
Also a tag I saw recently was "Reader has issues". It made sense in context.

I don't know why, one of my favourite tags is "no beta we die like X" because the X varies wildly. Best when fandom-specific, sometimes painful (like, why author, why -Tony, Hedwig, Dobby- for example) to simple wtf to sticks in the memory years later "No beta we die like Pepoer. In fire and falling from great height." (I can't remember the name of the fic but I'll never forget that tag 😅.)
It's like a genre of its own.

As someone who mostly reads genfic, tags really don't come up much with my reading habits. When I look for a fic it's usually because I stumbled across a recommendation somewhere, often in the form of a forum signature, often quoting some passage. And those can get pretty unhinged in their own way.
