What do you think about 30 year old gift my mom gave me? I can't wait to frame it! In case you're wondering, I used Cricut Maker 3 in this video, you can check it out here - cricut.com/en_us/cricut-maker-4.html
The samovar scene is so cozy and bright. The fact your mother embroidered it while she was pregnant with you is so meaningfull. It is a little treasure. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Wow Alisha. I have been watching all your videos. There is so much of thought in all your projects which I love. You are indeed one gifted and talented person naturally. Thank you for sharing your mom s work and that she did it when she was carrying for you proves more where the talent has come from. And I love the thought of making a handmade ornament and sending to your mother. Great work Alisha .hats off to you and your mom
Just make sure you use acid free materials. I had an embroidered piece framed with a cardboard backing and it yellowed pretty badly! Most people know about the dangers of acidic materials to photos and paintings, but not everyone knows that cotton is affected as well
I love how you turned that negative comment about your making stuffed animals as a child into something positive! Please keep making and sharing your beautiful creations 😊
Your mom made such a beautiful heirloom. Nothing you can buy in a store can compare to the heartfelt feelings this piece of artwork would bring. Her work is just priceless. 👌🏼🥰
I love how you turned that negative comment about making stuffed animals as a child into a positive and inspiring response. Looking at what a creative and talented adult you are, it's easy to see that you have been creating things your whole life and it's just part of who you are, so it's definitely not hard to imagine you making your own stuffed animals as a child. Plus, you never said they looked like store bought ones, I'm sure they were adorable and looked like a 10 year old made them, and then got better as you got older. Especially when you start your kids doing creative things for themselves at a young age, they quickly pick up the skills and develop the dexterity needed to do amazing things!
Thank you, Alisa, for all your hard work! Your videos are not only inspiring, but also helpful in the most practical way! I have been watching them and using your ideas for a few weeks and was so excited to find out today that you're of Russian heritage. I'm Russian, too, and love how you shared your family's heirloom! I feel instant affinity, because not only my mom made some amazing quilts for my children that will be cherished for years and years, I also have tablecloths and tea towels that my mom's grandmothers wove, sewed and embroidered by hand. It's such a treasure!
What a treasure you have with your Mom’s needlework. I have a crocheted picture my Grandma made for us almost 40 years ago. If the house ever catches fire, this is leaving with me. Such thoughtful gifts! Always love your videos. Take care and stay safe. 🪡❤️
My Cricut actually helps me alot. I am a Fashion Designer who needed it. Now I do alot of iron-ons, decorate some of my products. Helps alot something I really really need...!!
Fantastic ideas! The gift from your mom that she made is a treasure. I can't wait for you to frame it. Now it's time for you to make something to hang with it! Carry on the tradition.
I can't wait either - it is so special! I don't think my mind can even grasp the thought that the cloth is older than I am and was made for me. It is so super special! Thank you for watching, I very much appreciate that!
I handstitch story quilts and was surprised and inspired by your mother’s gift! Definitely going to make some similar ones depicting my culture & community this year!
I have some pillowcases that were embroidered by my grandmother...I'm loathe to leave them out, but I now I think I'll shadowbox them now. My grandkids will be able to appreciate them too.
I have done quite a few in the past - huge success, people loved them! I did a batch, and they all turned out so different, but lovely! I am glad that you will try it out :)
Really nice gift ideas! It's so true about the child's creativity. Spending creative time with my kids and now grands teaches the adult things too. ...through the eyes of a child...
Absolutely! With my toddler we do most things together - she helps me clean (give her a spray bottle with plain water and a towel and she will be a happy camper for 30 minutes), she helps in the kitchen with simple tasks like washing apples in a bowl, or putting spoons away, she like to fold her own clothes - and I don't push her to do it, she just wants to do what the adults do as well, and.... after a bit of practice, she is actually good at it and the most important part - she enjoys it! We do plenty creative things too, but it is nice to change the activities through out.
People are way too careful when it comes to kids. I had to use those awful plastic "kiddie scissors" in school and it made almost 4-year old me think I was bad at crafts. One of my earliest memories is going to the craftstore with my mom and aunt and picking out a pair of red, stainless steel Fiscars scissors. Never cut myself and, age 35, I still use them to this day! P.S. Those whetstones you use for your kitchen knifes? They will work on your scissors as well!
Very nice, good idea to personalize a gift, as you said it’s not about me but about them. Love the ideas...thank you . You have made me excited to start making personal gifts for Christmas...🎁🎁🎁
I totally get you about Names on things like Keychains. I have never, ever, ever seen Clare spelled the way I do--if I can find any Claires or Clares at all!
Hello. You are so talented and gifted. Thank you so much for sharing these gifts with us. You grandma and mom raised you well. I can see you're a great mother as well.
I love that you have the embroidery work that your mom made. I would suggest that you frame it with museum glass to protect the fabric and thread from UV light. I have an embroidery design that my mom made when I was born. She used yarn and much of it has been damaged by sunlight as it was displayed in my room throughout my childhood.
Jen, thank you! You are creative, it is just as adults, sometimes it is a bit difficult to find time, and creativity needs a bit of time and brain space... :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity What sparked an idea was the ornaments. I am going to use cookie cutters as templates and stitch the inside defining patterns transfered from the cutter. Thank you again❣
I love your videos, Alisa! So many great ideas and your message that "you can do it" is so true! We just have to try. Regarding the comments about children not being able to make soft toys: we didn't have a lot of money to buy gifts growing up. We often made gifts for each other. There were four of us and I'm the oldest. My sister made a teddy for our youngest sibling when they were 13 and 10. It is one of the stories we bring out the most often because she used dark green fabric for the teddy and huge white coat buttons for his eyes. He was kind of freaky but Fiona loved him. I made a cartoon character soft toy for my brother when he was little. I remember making a fabric clutch out of a tea towel once (not a soft toy, I know, but it just popped into my head). One of us made an elephant soft toy, too. The more I think about this, the more memories are coming back :D Susan
Exactly - all we have to do is just try! :) We won't ever know what we and others are capable of if we restrict ourselves... thank you so SO MUCH for sharing your memories, beautiful memories of you and your siblings!
Giiiiiirl, you gotta unpack it! I LOVE it, I truly do, sponsor or no sponsor, I truly enjoy this machine. Before Cricut reached out I was looking to purchase an older model to fit my budget, and I would be happy with that one as well. So many possibilities - just mind blowing. I use it for loads of paper crafts with my toddler, too!
Wonderful ideas. Thank you! You are so crafty and talented. I've always loved trying new things that catch my interest, self taught at everything. So nice to see, hear all you do. Thank you for the very nice gift ideas. I will use several. Happy holidays!
Yep, no more :) but... when I do have small scraps of smart vinyl left over for smaller images - I have to use the mat so that way I can feed it through :)
Some does! For example the green sparkly one is "strong bond" and it does feel stiff on fabric, but I have washed it now close to a dozen of times, as my toddler gets the shirt dirty and it held up really well. The black one feels smooth, but as those were gifts - can't say how it held up. I have used the iridescent one as well, and it feels smooth and nice.... BUT (totally my fault) I forgot to dry I on low heat and it did discolor the iron-on a little. I will be making more gifts with iron on do my hubby, I will post about them :)
Your videos are amazing and the way you explain it’s for everyone’s understanding I would say. I just discovered you page and subscribed because everything here is so valuable and you are such a pleasant speaker. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Do you have or will you do a tutorial for this beautiful design you are wearing in this video? I love that the sleeve goes all the way to the neckline and I also love the pleated end of the sleeve. My mum was a tailor but I never wanted to learn from her because we didn't have a good relationship and I wish I did because sewing it’s such a magical world and I am trying to learn but I find it very hard to do more elaborated thing such as clothes, so I don't go past hair bands, masks, pillows, etc, easy things anyone can do. University is very expensive so videos like yours make dreams come true. Will have a look for you in Skillshare too. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤

Pillowcases are excellent too if you or your little ones are prone to spilling. Much easier to throw the cover in the washing machine.
