Serves 5:
1-pound lean ground beef
¼ cup olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
5-6 garlic cloves, chopped
Salt to taste
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Pinch of crushed red pepper flakes
7 ounces diced tomatoes
1 bell pepper, diced
2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
1 and ½ cups Basmati rice
Rinse the rice in a large bowl 4-5 times or until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in cool water for 15 minutes or until the meat is ready.
Combine olive oil and onion in a large skillet and cook over medium heat until soft and golden. About 8 minutes.
Add garlic and cook for 3-4 minutes or until soft.
Add ground beef and cook over medium-high heat for 3 minutes.
Season with salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Add tomatoes and cook (covered) for about 10 minutes or until the tomatoes are soft.
Add the diced bell peppers and cook for 5 minutes or until softened. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Add the parsley and mix it together.
Drain the rice and add it to the pot along with 1 and ½ teaspoons of salt and 1 and ½ cups of water.
Bring the mixture to a boil. Cover the skillet with the lid and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 15 minutes.
Fluff the rice and serve with feta, tzatziki, and a salad. Enjoy!

What a wonderful dish!
No leftovers.
That's the best compliment.
Thanks for sharing
Dimitra Eskises! I made it tonight and it turned out to be an absolute success! A Scottish traditional man and a Greek 67 years old grandma were amazed! And you all know how difficult it to amaze a 67 year old cook lady! ☺️ Even though Greeks i had no idea about this dish! Greetings to all from Hamburg! 💙 We had it with side tirokauteri (spicy feta cheese paste) and it was elevated to the sky!
Haha! I do know how real that struggle is 😂 so glad everyone enjoyed it!!
Made this for dinner tonight. I sautéed in eggplant in with the other veggies and used a whole can of diced tomatoes. For the meat, I used a Greek lamb sausage that my butcher makes. I put feta on top with some chopped beets. Wonderful!
Sounds amazing! Thanks
Thank you very much for sharing this video! Made this dish about 4 times in the last month, with whatever vegetables were available and it’s always great!!!
Made it & then added a cube of beef bouillon when I added the rice instead of salt & it came out amazing
This is like a greek version of cuban picadillo with rice yum!
This a simple nice recipe to play around wit. I did fuss with it...I added extra salt, extra red and black pepper, 1 tsp cumin dill and parsley and a little butter. Also added some preserved lemon slices when cooking the rice.
Im hungry now! I’m Russian and I grew eating something similar called Plov. I add some cumin and mint and it’s really good.
Woah. We call it Pulao in India and they call it Pilaf / Pilau in Pakistan!
I did this except i added cumin and mint just because it sounded good didnt know russians did that too
I agree, cumin and mint plus use beef stock instead of adding salt and water. Plus add a drop if red wine.. let the rice absorb it all...serve with a salad
Me to
How amazing, there is a Indian/Pakistani dish and its also called keemah pilaf wow!! Love all this cross cultural goodness 🥰🥰🥰
jamilasalaamThe similarity in names, (language) is because of all European languages Greek and Celtic are close to Original sanskrit
@@cunobelinusX31 no, the real fact is, that Pilav kıyma comes from the turkish conquerors, who ruled in the whole area between Balkan and India .... Kıyma or keema is an origin turkish verb Infinitiv and means chopped meat or to chop smthing.
Jamila, please do not call this an Indian dish. It may be Pakistani dish, but it is not an Indian dish in any way. The mainstream Indian society revere cows and do not eat beef, only minorities eat beef in India.
@@FoodyMee no disrespect was meant .. I’m using my own personal knowledge of Indians I’ve grown up with here in New York & many do eat beef but yes I’m fully aware a huge population don’t eat beef or even any meat !
But no beef lol
This is one of my favourite dishes
Another winner! Just made this. I added some oregano as well. Very, very good!

Wonderful video. I an not much for cooking but I love to see someone who enjoys making great food.
Thank you going to make it 😊
Mmmmm. Simple but tasty. There's weekend lunch sorted ⭐
I made this for dinner tonight. It’s fantastic! Disclaimer: I thought I was thawing out a pound of ground beef; turns out it was a pound of Impossible Burger. I added a tablespoon of beef bullion to the water to make up for it. Also, I did not have any feta cheese so I used Mexican cotija cheese which is very similar in flavor.
I've made similar dishes with Impossible Burger many times.
This looks delicious! I'm gonna makes it vegan and serve it with a salad. 🤗😍
TY sweet Dimitroula mou! I''ll be making this soon. Stay safe & vigilant
Hope you enjoy and you too!!
Oh Dimitra!! You give me tons of inspiration in the kitchen! I love using rice as a medium to deliver complete meals with robust flavors. I made this three days ago with my own twists, everyone LOVED IT!!
I have my own version of Persian Wedding rice and my own take on Biryani! So this has been added to my repertoire!!
Btw, it was great with ground turkey as well and was easy to make vegan with mushrooms!!!
Looks good... I wanna try this dish... always good to know some international cuisine
I’ve made this several times and it’s such a delicious easy comforting dinner. Thank you I love all of your videos and recipes!

Awesome recipe thank you!!!!❤❤❤❤
Glad you liked it!!
This looks delish!
I'm diabetic and wondering if I could substitute out the rice for quinoa. Also, I made your flat bread and tzatziki and it was amazing. I will never waste money on pita bread from the store again. Never. I like that you can just pop it in the oven or fry it up in a skillet. Very versatile. Thank you so much.
Have you tried black or red rice?? They may be diabetic friendly. They’re both gorgeous and just add POW to rice dishes.
Hi, just made this recipe and really enjoyed it. Thank You.
Question: Can you recommend a versatile skillet perhaps the one you used here. What size is it? Thanks
I even like feta with my bacon and eggs yum
Thank you I will do this too😘👌

Looks delicious making it tomorrow for dinner along with your romaine salad recipe 😋
Question: what are you cooking on. I have an electric stove that I still cannot perfect my recipes on especially rice.
Yum!
Can I used dried parsley? Got everything except fresh. :) Looks AMAZING!!!
Yes of course!
@@DimitrasDishes AWESOME-SAUCE!!! :) Thanks for getting back! This will be dinner tonight! :)
You can sure chop that parsley 🙃🤣😉😊
The chef looks delicious too imao! What is the ratio of rice to water? 1-1?
Thnx for your lovely recipe! Wondering if would be possible to use brown rice or brown basmati instead? because of its long cooking time will it be better to cook it separately and add it later?
Yes you can! You can add it to the same pan and just adjust the cooking time and liquid as per package instructions.
♥️
can I use jasmine rice?
Hey I noticed your canned tomatoes were from HEB! You live in Texas!? I'm new to the chanel 😀

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I m Greek from Greece I’ve never seen such recipe.have you ever been to Greece?
Yes, I’m from Crete and this dish is from northern Greece: πιλάφι με κιμά. I didn’t grow up eating it either but it’s from our country 💙
Girl that’s Cajun dirty rice.
So for 1 1/2 cups of rice, you add only 1 1/2 cups of water ?
Yes, correct 🙂
N
there is no flavour in this dish, where are all the flavourful herbs the Greeks are famous for?
