    Great Video!!! I am right at this point in the rebuild of my ok 2wd 6.0. I have already replaced the front sway bar with the Helwig, mine did not come with a rear being a two wheel drive, but i did buy one for the rear as well. I have just bought EVERY possible rubber bushing component for the steering, Upper and lower ball joints, tie rods, inside and outside, drag link, ect ect, I Beam Axle Pivot Bushings, Radius Arm Bushings, even the Rear Leaf Shackle Bracket Bushings. I intend on getting the Bilstein 5100 series shocks, front and rear. Thanks for doing your video. It was right on point.

      It took a while to get use to not having the sloppy steering. It is super touchy now. but under control. I even went as far as to replace the steering gear box.
      Drives like it did new I guess.

    I have a 2002 XLT 2wd Excursion. I haven't had any of these issues but I did fix a suspension issue with the rear suspension that fixed all problems with rear body roll, ride comfort for both empty and under load, wheel hop and axel wrap.
    The cost? $450.00
    The product? The Roadmaster Active Suspension.
    Under load, the product holds the rear end up but still gives a good and stable ride while not compromising ride quality when not under load. Tow capacity is also increased. But the most important part was the wheel hop and axel wrap that occurs under hard braking. These two factors are responsible for the rear wheels coming off the ground resulting in vehicle roll-over crashes. Twice, this product has saved me by keeping the rear wheels down on the ground and allowing me to avoid what should have been very serious crashes. It was worth every bit of the $450.00 (dollars). Not sure if it will work on the 4x4. That's something someone else will have to check into and report. Anywho, I'm not looking to get rid of my Excursion any time soon.

    • @galenztwo
      @galenztwo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great Info Ron thanks. When i upgraded the suspension (IE) the weak stock shocks and flimsy leaf-springs it eliminated any wheel hop problems for me. I believe the axle wrap only occurs when towing, however its definitely to be avoided.The Sway bars front and rear for me, was the biggest improvement, it really stiffened the chassis and tied every thing together...

    There is a huge difference between sway and wander. Sway is likely from soft suspension which Excursions are famous for. I believe the wander is from Fords choice to have the wrong amount of caster in the front end. BOTH are horribly exagertaed by huge tires and wheels. Also make sure your front cross-tie is not broken as the axle end mount is horribly underengineered. Note that Bilstein makes a wonderful steering damper for the Excursion. Very huge and beefy. I have found my Excurisions a woinderful rig, even with the 5.4L engine, yet needs constant fiddling and upgrades. I believe mine with the small v-8 weighs 8500 pounds...the same as my 1984 bread grumman bread van. Thanks for the video.

    I don't have any steering issues out of my 2000 V10, even with my 33" Super Swampers. The problems I encountered where the shitty stock 4x4 hubs (PO drilled holes in the cap to lube them...aka gum them up, causing them to stay locked and wear on the stub shafts). And the shitty windshield seal job that ford did, which allowed water to run into my fuse box and create all sorts of "fond memories. Oh, and #4 sparkplug being shot out of the head, but that's common enough to all 2v ford modulars, lol. Other than that, I love my truck. Thinking someday I may go the cummins swap route, but for now, the PI 6.8 and 4.30 gears get the job done (about 10 mpg at a time, lol)

      I am happy with my 5.4L, even for towing a 26 foot travel trailer. A diesel would be nice but I would rather work on a gas engine.BTW, I got rid of my wandering issues with new shocks, stock tires/wheels, a bilstein sterring damper and repairing the front cross link mount on the axle. The famous death wobble has not reoccured either. I was sad to retire the nice 20" wheels and nearly new tires that were on it when I bought it but hey...function over form is my motto.

    2000 Ex XLT, V10...minus the factory anti-sway bar (the links snap off road), minus steering stabilize (it got hit the first time off pavement), 300 added pounds of winch and bumper up front, 3 inch lift cuz stock is too low for cross ditches.
    An Ex ain't a porsche, it's a truck. These trucks, as is the 3/4 ton Super Duty on which it is based, are most happy on gravel and logging roads and should be bought and used as such. If you spend all your time on the pavement and in the mall, go buy a Subaru or a Yugo or a Smart car or a bicycle.
    Why struggle with turning a truck into a Porsche? Just buy a Porsche.
    And if it wanders, check the ball joints. Factory are garbage and these truck eat them like a fat kid eating Smarties.

    Appreciate the video, Galen. I just ordered Hellwig sway bars front and rear based mostly on your feedback here. But a couple questions - it's been a year since you made this vid, have you done the 2" lift yet? If so, what product did you go with? Did the dual steering stabilizer from Skyjacker not require a lift? I too would like to raise the truck a modest couple inches, but haven't found the best way to do that yet. Maybe Bilstein 0-2" shocks and an add-a-leaf kit F & R. What exact model Bilstein shocks did you go with? Seems like everywhere I look the 5100's require 4" lift at a minimum on the Excursion.

    • @galenztwo
      @galenztwo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings, no I have lifted it as of yet. However I will be going with a 4'' lift when I do. The best way to accomplish this is with after market leaf springs, Amazon sells them in pairs. The front springs are different from the rear so be sure to get the correct ones. For the front steering stabilizers I did not need to lift the truck. When you search for the springs you will look for + 4 inc

      I think there great, I had one previously to my v10. They can feel a tad sluggish when loaded but the do get better gas mileage. The bigger tires will probably take the extra mpg away and tires that size will suck up some power from the motor. 2wd gets old when you want to go of road but get what u can afford.
