    PLEASE NOTE - If you are experiencing problems, please don’t forget to do a factory reset on the RC-600 AFTER updating to v1.2.
    REMEMBER you will lose any settings or loops saved to memory if performing a reset so best to back up prior.

    I've been looking everywhere for this info, thank you!! Particularly about the loop sync and the ability to start subsequent tracks/loops NOT only at the beginning of the loop. Although, I think there is still a setting missing.... plain and simply...quantize start(TO ANY BEAT)... it's like they skipped the quantize world completely. You should have the option to start new loops on - Nearest Loop start, Nearest Measure start, AND Nearest BEAT (or nearest 2nd,3rd,4th,5th,6th... beats). And then also Free. The only way I could think of achieving this, would be to save the shortest possible loop, saved in all your presets(and just don't use it), so that the RC600 is forced to think that the measure is only x-amount short. I did something similar on my RC300, and that's how I got around this issue. Any ideas if that is possible with the RC600?

    Hey brother, I bought the rc 600 course. Thank you for your information. I have a question.
    What if I want to use my mic input in the loop,
    but then have a switch that it just passes through. To where I can enable and disable weather or not the mic is being looped.
    But when mic is disabled from loop it just passes through. Is this possible with one switch?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the normal behaviour of any input, XLR or jack. It will pass through and work by default and you choose when to record the loop. 👍🏻

    • @TadJennings
      @TadJennings 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK I meant to ask.. can I have a switch that allows my microphone to record when I want it to record.. meaning if I’m recording guitar I don’t want my microphone to be recording as well at that time.. but I still want the microphone to pass through.. so I don’t need a mute switch.. I would need to switch that enables / disables recording of the microphone when I have it on and went i have it off

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can have a mic switch but you could go one further and assign this to a specific track so when you press to record guitar on track 1, the mic mutes and when you press track 2, the mic unmutes. 👍🏻
      Get into assigns. That will be the answer.

    Hi JP, do you know about the bug where if the measure setting for the track is set to "Auto", it sets the number of measures to whatever track is recorded first regardless of whether it is set to AUTO. It is meant to match the length of the first track with AUTO on, not the tracks that have measure set to Free, or 1, 4 etc. From the manual...
    "Tracks that are set to AUTO will have the same number of measures. The number of measures is determined by the first-recorded track of the tracks that are set to AUTO.
    For example, if all tracks are set to AUTO, the value set as the number of measures for the second and subsequent tracks will be identical to the number of measures in the first track that was recorded"
    This was how it worked for the rc300. The use case is that I have a short track set for beat-boxing, and then the other tracks all match whatever loop length I record. Sometimes that is 4 measures, but other times it is long for songs like "Give me one reason" by Tracey Chapman which is 12 bar blues. What made it great with the rc300 (and what the rc600 is meant to do) is that you record the drums, then a long bass line for the song and hit stop. Then you could change guitar tone, then hit record on the next track at any time, and that track would be the same 12 measure length. So it would take a few seconds to change the guitar tone, but you just hit record at the start of the 3rd measure for example, it would get to the end of the measure 16, and then automatically loop to measure 1 so that you can keep recording up to measure 3 and then hit stop. Without this, I have to wait for the entire 12 bar blues to get to the start so that I can record the guitar over the bass.
    Anyway, to me this seems very clearly to be a bug, and I was hoping you might have a magical fix. Fingers crossed. :) Thanks

    on the 300 I would set the rhythm and tempo first ( no problem on the 600) then I would go into edit the tracks and set the loop length to specific number of measures in all 3 tracks. example TRACK 1- 3 measures (intro) TRACK 2 - 8 measure (verse) TRACK 3 - 9 measure (Chorus)... I would set all stop modes to loop end... I would put in single track play and turn loop sync OFF... thats all I had to do and I could click the next track button anytime during the loop and it would flash until the loop ended it worked in recording and playback... I can't find a video that explains how to do this on the 600 in SINGLE TRACK PLAY mode

    Awesome video. Love your workflow. I can relate to what you do as a guitarist vocalist and relatively new to looping. I have a 500 but the 600 videos are relevant. I wanted to set up multi instruments in my studio through a mixer. Guitar, Bass, Drums, (small Electric rig) guitars and mic all running through a mixer and then into my RC 505 mkII. Love this little unit but its overwhelming and so many rabbit holes.
    I have been watching so many videos on beat boxers because all the tutorials out there for the 505 is mostly the beat boxer community. Its absolutely impressive and astonishing what these guys can do on the fly and freestyling but its all so fast and so many buttons being pushed and manipulated faders, knobs etc, fx on off, on the fly that its confusing to understand the basic workflows and sequences to a beginner with the unit.
    With that being said, I would love to see you do more with the 505 mk ii. An intense tutorial would be great with guitar or at least one instrument in addition to the vocal mic and beats etc. I am not sure yet if I have buyers remorse or if I am just not being patient enough but I have put in so much time with the unit already and I am really not getting it. Its just not as intuitive as my 500 and I use it with the fs 7 controller for some extra muscle and options. I was hoping to incorporate the fs 7 into my 505 mk ii to free my hands up for certain instruments but I was waiting until I had a better understanding of the unit before adding more gadgets.
    Hope you can give us something intensive on the mk ii in the future that can help out us slower folks.
    I did watch your first videos with the mk ii and it was fun to watch you play with it on the fly and figure it out, I definitly learned some things but that was more you experimenting and figuring it out on the fly. If you have had some time to play with it and can now show us some basic level mastery with it I can't wait for that video.
    Cheers.

      Hi 👋
      This is fascinating and I think that would be something I would like to dive into. You are right, most of the videos (over 90% of them) are about beatboxing where they are only using either one mic or another pedal into the 505/505mkii via one stereo.
      What you want you can TOTALLY do and have much more control of the lips due to the individual volume controls for each of the 5 loops.
      Let me look into this and maybe a course could be on the horizon for the 505mkii but from a singer songwriters perspective.. 😉

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK "Let me look into this and maybe a course could be on the horizon for the 505mkii but from a singer songwriters perspective.. 😉"
      Exactly what I was hoping for. Not really anything out there for this application with the 505mkii but I believe it's just as useful for this as it is for the beatboxers.
      Reinhardt Buhr is an amazing example.
      I look forward to see what you come up with. Only because I find it easy to learn from you. It's clear and simplified and easy for me to follow you. I guess it's my learning style.

    Hi, I have been dealing with Roland for over a year now. A known issue has not been resolved, and I don't see it mentioned in this video. I've been unable to use the 600 in a professional setting. Would love to know if any other users have experienced it? The RC 50 and 300 did not have the same issue. Settings- Loop sync on, Multi Playmode, and measure set to Auto. (Tried toggling on/off quantize and tempo sync)
    The problem is that the second track intermittently (maybe 30% of the time) adds a gap of space at the beginning of the synced track, resulting in the subsequent tracks not synced property.
    The engineers at Roland wrote me the following message on 4/12/22 and have not issued a firmware update to fix-
    "Thanks for reaching out and contacting Roland BOSS USA Operational Product Support about the RC-500 and RC-600. We've documented the issue and were finally able to recreate a similar issue on our RC-600, just with a default Memory Location. Seemed to occur on TRACK 2 as well however not an overdub but just a TRACK 2 first loop, some small gap of sound is filled with white noise between the tail and head of the loop stem.Very strange and odd indeed."

      @JohnPaulMusicUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey 👋
      Oh that is rare. I’ve not come across that myself. Wonder if it down to the unit itself or the firmware?!
      Have they offered to swap the RC-600 for another one to rule out the problem with a faulty board?
      Although as I type that, they have said they have been able to replicate it themselves.. so hopefully they can just address that in firmware..
      But it has done a bit quiet on the firmware front at the mo.
      Fingers crossed they solve it. Very frustrating thou.

      @@JohnPaulMusicUK Thank you so much for your reply! I've tried another 600 to rule out hardware. I've corroborated this with other working musicians and everyone has sent theirs back and moved on. The 600 is a fail as far as professional, live performance goes if you're using the gear like this- Multi, Auto measure, no saved tracks/tempos. I use mine strictly improvisationally. I clear the tracks after each song and start fresh. The first track dictates the loop length for the other tracks. What's happening 30% of the time is the second track adds space on the front end of the loop as it comes back around. I've used several loop pedals for the past 20 years including the RC 50, 300, Boomerang, and Ditto with no issues. This is definitely a software bug and a shame they haven't resolved it.

    I'm considering getting the rc600. I have an rc300 and 500 for smaller foot print.
    What I'm hoping for are 2 features/functions. Do you know if the rc600 can do these:
    1. Can you double the length of a single loop - you can on the quad cortex looper
    Say you loop 1 measure (a beat) but then want to dub an 8 measure loop over it (an 8 bar chord progression). You press a x2 button twice and you get 8 bars of beat and then you can dub 8 bars of chords on top. Can something like that be done on the rc600? Or is there an option that if the dub exceeds the original loop length it automatically increases the loop length?
    2. Can you bounce a loop to another in the following fashion. I create a beat on loop 1. I then do a bassline on loop 2. When I'm happy with the bassline I press a button and it gets bounced to loop 1 automatically merged. Can that be done?
    I saw someone post a video showing you can bounce by recording/dubbing 1 loop to another by having the 1 loop be the source input for another and this way you then have to play the source through while recording or dubbing to the other loop for the bounce to work. I'm trying to see if there is a way without having to wait for it to play through a second time, some automatic merge function?
    I basically want to use loop 1 to create a 1-2 measure rhythmic/bass layer. Then in loop 2 make an 8 bar harmony and either bounce that to loop1 modifying loop1s length to 8 bars automatically via the bounce, or to have an option to increase the length of loop 1 like in the QC looper and then bounce loop2 down to loop 1 either via dub recording or by an automated switch.
    Is any of that possible on the rc600?
    Why I want to work like that is make sure that each layer is good before before bouncing to another loop. Then build up song sections in each loop with multiple dubs. I don't want to just dub because after the first, the undo undoes all but the first and I want to dub with different length loops that follow the first dub as a measure working in indices of 2 of that length. I'm not sure if that makes sense or not.

      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Johnny 👋
      So it’s kind of done in a different way.
      Firstly you can’t double the length of the loop as it stands at the moment. This is a feature I used in the Headrush Looperboard. However…
      There are 6 loops to play with and there certainly is Bounce. You can do a bounce that is instant so when you press bounce, it just shoots over to where you have set.
      There is also a feature that most people don’t talk about (and I am ONLY just starting to play with and understand) which is ‘Mark Back’.
      Mark back you set a point, record what you want, including multiple overdubs, hit mark back and it reverts to that point.
      This is really useful and can generate breakdowns and you can set when it can undo.
      Plus the other way you can look at it, is to utilise the 6 loops on all one mode, meaning you have more control using all 6 loops than recording and bouncing, you could stop/start each one, dub all 6, undo all 6. It’s way better for control.
      The other nice thing is you can combine single mode and multi mode. I do this a lot to have multi mode rhythm(beatboxing) and then still have a verse and a chorus etc..
      have a look at this and hope this helps you. 👍🏼

    Hi JP. Have you had any further issues with the update version 1.21? I am having a few issues with the pedal crashing during some rehearsal performances on 1.21
    For example I have an FC300 midi pedal board running into the RC600 as a set of extension switches. I have had issues where tap tempo is causing midi overload (?????)
    This is just one of a few issues I have with the 1.21 firmware. Another is the pedals not reacting correctly while I am tracking across multiple loops (i.e. start track 3, then work on track 2.)
    I am in the process of reporting these issues to Roland themselves, but I thought I would ask here if it is a user error (quite likely) or unit error? For reference I am using only the FC300 + rc600. Nothing else is on the midi connection.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey 👋
      So I’ve heard a few people having issues and those crashes always seem to be midi induced. Quick question.. do you have both the midi in and out connected from the FC300 to the RC600 and back or just the midi out to midi in? Wondering 🤔
      Have you attempted a full ‘back up and reset to factory’ job? I know it’s a pain in the arse.. but factory resetting and then getting a new version of 1.21 might help. 🤷‍♂️

    • @35milesoflead
      @35milesoflead ปีที่แล้ว

      @JohnPaulMusicUK Thanks for the quick reply, dude! Appreciate it a lot.
      To your first question - nope. Just midi being sent from the FC300 to the RC600. One way connection. The FC300 doesn't really receive midi from the rc600, so I don't connect it. I didn't think it pinged a round-trip. I am using the FC300 because functionaly it was better than a bunch of FS5/6/7's.
      To your second. Yes, I have done a factory reset twice. I messed up my CC assignments, so it was quicker to reset to factory settings than rejig things. I didn't try to reinstall the firmware because it didn't get downgraded (or infact upgraded by me). The device came prepared with system 1.21. I have lodged a ticket with Roland support because their Swansea office no longer takes phone calls, like the good old days.
      Cheers, Jake.

    Thanks for this very helpful video. The thing that I feel is the least intuitive aspect of the three different sync options is that whereas "Immediate" and "Measure" options will start the loop from the beginning (in "Immediate" mode, immediately, and in "Measure" mode at the start of the next measure) , the "Loop length" option however unmutes the track IMMEDIATELY but continues playing from the current position. If I have understood this correctly it is quite weird and also quite clever - but rather unintuitive and a bit of a head stretch! I think I had expected "Loop length" to ALSO start playing from the start of the loop. Can you confirm that I have got this right? Cheers.

      Hey Alec 👋
      Yea you have this right and a bit of a head scratch indeed.
      Loop length is how the board was originally shipped with only that option on the first firmware. Confused a lot of us (me included) and wasn’t what people wanted.
      I certainly stick with measure as I can, with practice, control the loops as I see fit and all these options don’t interrupt start/stop pedals which I use sometimes as the end of a bar to ‘reset’ and start all loops quickly.

    Hi, nice video! There's a thing I can't get my head around (while loop sync is on), maybe you can help me? Say i record a loop on track 1 of 4 measures long, and on track 2 I start recording an overdub on the second measure of the first loop and stop recording on the third measure, sometimes the loop on the second track ends up being 4 measures long as well (the rc-600 fills the empty spaces so to speak) so everything stays in place while looping the 4 bars, but sometimes (on another take) the loop on track 2 ends up the length of the actual recording (1 measure) and will repeat it self on every measure in stead of every 4...it seems random behavior, but maybe this has to do with the length of my recording or timing?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. So yeah it’s totally down to timings. Make sure Quantise measure is on.
      The simple and low key way around this is to create a blank 4 bar loop on track 2. Then when you come to overdub, it’s where it should be.
      Alternatively, if you have dictated 4 bars for loop 1 and 2 before hand. It shouldn’t really move.

    • @PvanSanten
      @PvanSanten ปีที่แล้ว

      Thnx JP, for your quick response. I tried and tried, but the solution was in another setting and turned out to be very simple: go to the measure option in the (current) track settings (in my example tr. 2, default (before recording anything) it's on 'free', but instead put it on 'auto' (one down, so counterclockwise), now it will auto adjust to the amount of measures of the previous recorded track where loop sync is on. ;)

    Hey JP, i have an issue with recording, i have it set up on loop sync: loop length, and basically when i record a loop, the first one is always fine, but let’s say i want to rec on track 3 the guitar, then want to rec the beat on track 1, and track 4 is the voice, so i want to start recording the voice half way through the loop length, so i don’t get any unwanted noise getting picked up, and regarding when i hit the switch, sometimes everything is fine it records straight away, but sometimes the red led blinks until the end of the loop (for exemple) and start recording then.
    Which means the voice is not at the right place of the phrase playing then… so it messes up the song 😅
    Thanks
    On the rc300 or the headrush it is fine, whenever you hit the switch it records based on the first loop recorded! Not the case on the 600…
    Is it something that can be fixed?
    For exemple when i set the loop sync to immediate it’s fine while it plays but of course when i do an all stop all start, every loop are playing at different times it should 😅

    Hi JohnPaul - I've been trying to wrap my head around Loop Sync and I have a couple questions.
    1) Isn't "Loop Length" the same exact behavior as "Measure" when (as in your example here) the first recorded track is 1 measure?
    2) Another thing I haven't been able to figure out is when I have the Loop Sync on and a 1-measure track one playing then I go to track two to add, say a bass line. If I press record mid-measure, I sometimes get the flashing red light countdown for the measure start to come around again, but sometimes it goes straight to record. I haven't been able to figure out what accounts for the difference in behavior. Is this just an issue of how late in the measure you press record? Like if it's on "ONE AND" it's still close enough that it starts straight away but if it's on beat THREE it knows to wait?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey 👋
      So it is way more complicated but you get way more control.
      So firstly you need to look at your inputs. MENU>Inputs. If you are using the mic and 2 instruments in stereo, you will be fine. If you are using more than 2 instruments that require jack input then you have to decide if they are mono or stereo and in the MENU>INPUT setting decide how you want them (mono/stereo).
      Then back out and head to MENU>OUTPUT.
      You have the Outputs of the instruments and the outputs of the loops (tracks).
      You can utilise main, sub 1, Sub 2 and headphone out, giving you 8 outputs (headphone being stereo)
      Then you have routing.
      MENU>ROUTING - this is the loops. Where you want them to go.
      MENU>ROUTING>INPUT/RHYTHM - this is where you want the inputs to go.
      And you can choose for every input and every loop including the rhythm.
      It’s set that all come out of all by default.
      But I would advise a piece of paper and a pen and draw out HOW you want it to go.. like a mixer. Then you won’t get too lost.
      If you want a video call from me to help you, I do consultations which you can find here - www.johnpaulmusic.co.uk/coaching-options

    2 tracks that play complimentary parts that together comprise Part A of a song that are then simultaneously turned off when Track 3 is triggered. Basically, I want a group of tracks (in multi mode vis-a-vis each other) that together relate to another group in single mode.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

      So you can start recording loops 1&2 and they will play together, then when you press loop 3, loop 2 will auto switch off.
      Then to make loop one switch off, I would use assigns.
      Use one assign on loop 3 to tell it to turn off loop 1, and then, another assign on loop 1 or 2 to turn off loops 3 when you press it.

    Hi John,
    I don't agree with you that Boss solved the Sync problem.
    The way you perform the tests does not show the problems that are still there in version 1.2.
    Set the device to:
    Single-Mode
    Sync-ON
    Type-"Measure"
    Play-Loop End
    Stop MODE: "Loop"
    Try to record and switch between two (or more) Tracks, and you will see that when the second Track is waiting to go into recording, the first Track is playing (why does it go into Play Mode??)
    In addition to all the synchronization options at the end of a recording (let's say of 2 channels) you want to go back and be in Play mode on the first Track, it will be immediately set to playback and not wait for the end of the recording of the last channel.
    In short, there is still a lot of work for Boss engineers.

    Does Tempo Sync need to also be turned on, or will tracks with Loop Sync alone adhere to the same tempo? I guess I just don’t quite understand the point of Tempo Sync.

      They are different things.
      Tempo sync with sync to the tempo. Loop sync is the loops syncing to each other and how they react.

    1) Won't doing a Factory Reset AFTER updating to Ver. 1.20 just undo the update and restore the RC-600 back to its original configuration? ... and 2) Before I updated to Ver. 1.20 my RC-600 had frozen up 3 different times. Giving me the Error Codes: System Error (A) 268, System Error LC 748 & System Error LC 1258. Now AFTER the update to Ver. 1.20 it has frozen up more than a dozen times and it gives No Error codes. Trying to turn the unit off via the On/Off switch doesn't work since the whole thing is frozen. The only way out is to shut it off by unplugging it then rebooting. I can't see how I could ever use this thing LIVE knowing it could freeze up at any time. Any suggestions... Anybody?

      Firstly doing a firmware update and then resetting to factory will erase everything on the RC-600 but it will reboot as the latest firmware without anything else.
      Also 1.21 is now out and regarding your crashes, if you get up to 1.21 and then factory reset, a lot of people have had there problems resolved. Not everyone but a lot on the FB groups are saying it’s a success. 👍🏻

      Welp, I updated to Ver. 1.21, did the Factory Reset, & restored my loops from Back-Up. Then less than 1 hour into a practice session The RC froze up again. And gave me No Error Codes to submit. Is my RC-600 defective???

      @@JohnPaulMusicUKDay 2, has Frozen Up 3 times within the 1st hour of practice during Playback. Really starting to consider that my particular unit is Defective. I don't see that anyone else has posted about having the same or a similar problem with their RC-600's. And still giving me No Error Codes as it had done before I did the last 2 updates.

    JP, Quickly, How do you set your main screen on Setting 3, to MEMORY / MIC LEVEL 1 / Rhythm Level 1 / MFX Reverb like you did? I know it will probably be reviewed on my course, but just wondered. Thanks!

      For the 3rd screen just use the right arrows.
      For the control knobs, change them by going to Menu>setup and go across to the last page and you can alter them there. 👍🏻
