Absolutely awesome video. It puts things into perspective to actually create separate playing configurations using the Memory concept. The template is also great. It really would be even greater to create an iPAD or Android app that showed this configuration based on your song playlist, and automatically configured the RC-600 using MIDI or other methods.

Poof! My sinuses are cleared, and the ear wax melted from watching this video! 🔥 This makes you appreciate the complexity of this looper! I can see where it saves you time, but I need to get a 4 year college degree just to understand it all! What a learning curve! I also want to know if the developer is committed to maintaining this software as Boss and MS OS make updates. Are you automatically updated, or do you need to inquire about updates?
Are all of the differences between 505M2 and 600 properly accounted for?
So, now I realize how little I know my 505M2!

Hi JP - I've watched your RC-600 videos several times, and it's inspiring how you use it. I also think I have a pretty good grasp now of how it works.
I have, however, very simple needs / wants with the pedal, and I can't figure out how to set it up in the way I want.
Basically, I previously used a Boomerang III (which I adore), but it packed up. Import taxes to the UK from the US stopped me replacing it, and after seeing your videos, I decided the RC-600's customisation would surely allow me to do the same thing I did on Boomerang, albeit with more flashing lights :)
So yes, I wish to use the RC-600 in the same way as the Boomerang, with a master loop - and for all the other slave loops to be either the same length as the master loop, OR a multiple of that loop.
I never use metronome for loops, and I do not want the slave loops to be connected to any bpm. I definitely do not want the slave loops to be a partial of the master loop (i.e half the master loop, or say a partial measure or bar of the master loop).
This is because I often like to get my guitar 'ready' for the next loop early, and not have to think about measures, or waiting for just before the master loop restarts.
I hope this makes sense. Basically, I want to copy the Boomerang III's behaviour completely. I loved that pedal, as I only have one way of playing, and I never had/have to think about it. It just works. I used it for years.
I understand the RC-600 is super useful for different types of looping, but I'm just a guitarist who wants a master loop, and then all the slaves to sync with that master (in multiples of the master, where needed). That's it. I do NOT want to menu dive each time. I just want to play.
Hope makes sense, and look forward to hearing if you can offer any insight. Otherwise, time to sell (already!). Eek.
By the way - I have the latest firmware, as per your other video.

      Hey 👋
So if you have the RC-600 setup in a specific way, you can achieve what you want.
Basically you will be making a memory up how you want it, save it, and then it’s done and setup up for you.
BUT - once thing you need to understand is that the RC-600 doesn’t automatically think that you want loops 2-6 in double or half or more or whatever you want, you Haves to tell it.
Now with v1.21 they great thing is you can set the recording behaviour to ‘measure’ which means that you can hit record and then when you are ready you can stop at the nearest measure and it will figure it out. It doesn’t ‘pre’ set tracks in doubles unless you have specifically told it to do that before hand, dictating that loop(track) 1 is 4 bars, loop 2 is 8 bars etc etc.
Go into LOOP, scroll to LOOP SYNC and make sure it’s on mode measure. Then go to LOOP>REC and turn measure ON (OFF by default). Now, when you loop the first track (let’s just say 4 bars) it knows this and sets the bpm (don’t worry, I hardly use rhythms as well.. it’s just for the system to figure out the bar lengths). Then on loop 2, you record 7 bars and then tap it, it will play 7 bars whilst loop 1 will play 4. I hope this helps.
Alternatively you can dictate each loop and it’s length so you don’t have to worry about it.

    Hello Everyone!
I have a question, I am using an RC 600 and I would like to configure it like pressing record on track 1 and after I finish recording would I press track 2 recording so it would keep and play the recorded loop on track 1 and then start recording immediately on track 2, but after the track 1 circle has ended it would start overdub on track 2 (where I just pressed recording before so I don't have to press recording 2x to record and overdub on track 2). Is that possible to have a fix bar/loop length to start overdub on the next track after the track 1 has finished the loop circle? Is it possible to synchronize the 2 tracks bar length together?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is 100% possible.
The great thing about the RC-600 is that instead of pressing track 1’s record button a second time, you can just press track 2’s button and it will do two things, stop recording on track 1 and instantly go into playback and at the same time start recording on track 2.
You can change and set the bar length in the LOOP menu on each track.
You just need to change one thing which is the record / dub settings to it goes from Rec/Play to Rec/Dub.
Go to LOOP>REC>REC ACTION and change it there.
You should now have what you want. 👍🏻

  • @Opethian86

If you're using multiple instruments, can you specify which instrument each button records? For example, if there was a duo with two players, could one player create a loop while the other plays... so that the second instrument doesn't get recorded into the loop and therefore doesn't cause interference?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  หลายเดือนก่อน

Absolutely yes. You can dictate on each loop what that loop can hear as you record. It’s set to all be default but you can change this.
Go to LOOP>Track1-6 ( pick a track)> use the right arrow button to go all the way to the end of the menu and the last option is INPUT. Here you can turn off whichever you want.
*Top Tip * - you can change tracks easily my pressing the LOOP button again instead of coming out of the menu and therefore cycle through the tracks.
      Hope this helps.

On my RC 600 just the last 4 effects Beat Shift, Best Repeat, beat scatter, vinyl flick work in the „insert - all“ - Setup… i would like to use a lpf-filter or a radio effect on all tracks simultaneously for example… do you have an idea ? Good morning.
Unless I am mistaken, all track fx can be routed to all tracks at the same time. By default out of the box this is the case.
Are you saying that LPF filter and radio effect is not changing all the tracks at the same time?
To check this go to the effect that you want on track FX, then select it and click the left arrow and it will tell you what it is affecting.

JP, thanks for the video. I was having all kinds of weird things happen and was about ready to send back the RC600. I missed the "Preference" option and that is why I was getting strange behavior. Once I assigned them to Memory, I can do as you are doing. Was trying to do this with CTRL-FUN and ASSIGN with poor results. QUESTION: What is the difference between assigning in the CTRL-FUN vs. ASSIGN (I originally thought one was System and one was memory but now I can't understand the difference). What do we use the ASSIGN for as it appears CNTL-FUN does the assigning already and preference chooses system vs. memory? I'm not sure where Boss support is, they should be paying you for doing their job. They should set up a moderated forum (like Kemper or Fractal has done successfully) for questions staffed by a Boss support expert (ie. pay you). Thanks in advance for an answer.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey David. That’s very kind of you.
So by default everything is system based… except for the Assigns which are memory based but if you change things to ‘per memory’ then yes they are very similar.
The advantage here is that I do it the other way round.. so my CTRLs are system wide (same across the 99 memories) so muscle memory for the Fs-7 pedal is the same for performance.
Then I have 16 assigns per memory (one taken up by the expression pedal for the loop volumes)
The list is slightly different, and where you can assign to and from is as well where the ctrl’s are dedicated pedals like expression, FS-5,6,7 or alternative. Big one is that Assigns can also include midi as well as the 9 switches and the external controls.

Hey JP!! I'm from Brazil and around here there's still no one with good reviews of this pedalboard... I'm having trouble configuring the way to play the loops, sometimes I record a simple beat with a short bar on track 1 and a base on track 2, however when I "stop All", and back with track 1, when I start track 2 it doesn't start from the beginning and that's a nightmare for me!! where do I configure for the loops when triggered to always start from the beginning?

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

This is a common problem that was solved with version 1.21.
Change the loop sync for each track in LOOP to ‘measure’.
Then go into the REC settings and change the Quantise to Measure as well.
Then when you stop/start, everything returns to the beginning.

Is it possible to configure the R 600 in such a way that I have a single mode but grouped. Example: Group 1 track 1.2 and 3. Group 2 track 4.5 and 6. So group 1 and 2 as with a 2 track looper (RC 500) only each track divided into 3 multi subtracks. Means making a song that consists of 2 parts, but in these parts you can turn each track on and off as you wish..... sorry :-) Thank you very much

Is it possible to create this same scenario on the rc600 except assign 1 button for bass and maybe another for harmonies? You would do this with assigns.
Assign to play multiple tracks when a certain button is pressed. So you would use one assign to play track 2 when button 1 is pressed and then both track 1& 2 would play when the same button is used.

My mic runs in to my looper and comes out sub out 2. I only loop vocals in bank 4 so that I can sing and loop in other banks at the same time and it not get picked up. I want to be able to have a patch where I'm not using bank 4 to record loops and just have it so the guitar comes out of it. Anytime I'm trying to change it on my patch so that bank 4 doesn't record vocals it changes that on each patch. I've changed my systems to memory. Is there a way around this? Basically on one patch track 4 records my vocals and on the patch it doesn't record it on bank 4? Seems to be global

That’s interesting. It shouldn’t be global.
Go to Loop>Trk4>scroll all the way to the end and then you can choose what is being heard by that channel / loop.

Yes. So there is an assign which is called TRK 1-6 FADER where you should be able to control it with the switches. Haven’t tried it but could work?

Hi JP...please help. I'm erring towards RC600 but have read a lot of bad things concerning basic functionality flaws..
I'd like to get two and have them sync to the same rythmn. One member of band recording percussion (track 1) then drums (2) then synth chords (3) for whole song incl all sections on looper 1.
Then the other member, me, recording bass (1), rythmn guitar (2) and lead (3) on the second looper at the same time for whole song.
I was thinking multi mode we can bring each track in and out and/or mute as needed. Or maybe use a combination of single and multi mode so certain tracks appear and disappear together.
The 2 loopers would send separate audio out to PA. The click track would be routed to in ear monitors so we can stay locked in.
I would have gone with two aeros loopers but they can't be midi synced together. We won't to avoid too much programming and using loopy hd pro on stage. Clearly loopy is the most powerful looper available but perhaps not geared towards stage use.
Or would 2 505s be better?
Let me know if all this is doable or any other suggestions...thanks! I love your channel so helpful.

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK
      @JohnPaulMusicUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi 👋
Firstly yes you can sync them together and they will work.. but reading your message, If you only need 3 tracks each then you could do this with 2 RC-300’s. However the fx and quality of sound is better on the 600’s.
Yeah you could totally do it or even have one RC-600 and a good midi pedal for the other band member who controls tracks 4,5&6.
The 505 options is also good and you can add midi pedals to it but remember it’s 5 tracks, not 6.
Thought having 2 RC-600’s synced would be actually easy.. the downside would be how you want to route the audio. But it can be totally done. 👍🏻

    • @JohnPaulMusicUK

My advice would be to change the looper play settings to ‘loop end’ and then when you are ready to record the next phrase (let’s say you have recorded the verse on track 1 and about to record the chorus on track 2) play along with the verse in play mode and then press the button to record before the end of the recording.. the recorder on track 2 will flash but the verse will carry on playing until the end of that loop and then the looper will jump into record. Great thing is you are already playing the chorus at that point. It means that your brain isn’t concentrating on the timing of pressing a button as well as getting the chords right.
      Hope that helps.

Question is: HOW do you want to loop?
You have better access to individual volume control and effect on the RC-505mkii but then would need additional pedals if hands are busy.. or with the RC-600 you can control completely with hands and more customizing per memory.. but you would need additional controls for the volume and more pedal pressing for the effects.

This is the most common complaint with the looper. It’s down to practice or a double tap on the start/Stop can get you back to the first single loop. So if that is your verse that’s useful.
But the main tip is change the loops to ‘loop end’ for the stop actions.

Hi, I would like to ask you if you can record with this sequence without having problems of misalignment of the recordings: 1) I record track one with accompaniment chords, starting the recording on the first quarter in downbeat, for four measures. 2) I record a melody on the second track which must start 1/8 earlier than the chords recorded on the first track. Having done this, listening to the recordings again, it happens that after the first reproductions in which everything plays in time, it happens that the synchronization begins to get lost until the two tracks no longer play in time. Do you also have this problem? It would be a disappointment to find that the rc600 cannot handle loops with recording starts at different times. Thank you very much, congratulations on your channel.

Great vid, JP! Thank you! Small question, In scenario 2- Can i have track 1 and 2 as single mode, but only affected by each other? So i start out with track 1, doing softer kick and rim shot- build a loop with 3,4,5,6- then come in with full kit (midi drum pad) and when i step on 2 (to record) it turns off 1. So 3,4,5,6 affect each other, but 1,2 are essentially a separate pair of "single modes"

    Hey there,
Is it possible to ALL PAUSE every track? I know there is the ability to all stop, which I use regularly. I have a part in one of my songs that requires all tracks to pause and then I'd like the RC 600 to start playing all of the tracks where they left off, instead of starting at the beginning of the loop. Being able to assign this to a footswitch would be very helpful. I've searched the product pages and dug through the menus and have found no answers.

Hey David. I’ve been hurling through the manual and the parameter guide for you and testing this out on my own.
      Simple answer - no.
I’m afraid not. I think that’s a very specific thing you are wanting.. the only way I can think around it, it creating the loops at home and have a second memory which starts at the part you want it to carry on.
So memory 1 is the same as you would have and then memory 2 is the same chords but you start looping on bar 3/4.. so when you stop the loop, you silently go up a memory and you are ready to kick in at the right moment.
Now don’t get me wrong, it would be confusing to put down and you would have to watch out for restarts.. but it could work.
I know this isn’t the answer you wanted but that could be a solution for that one song.
      Hope that helps.

I own this Looper and I hate it. Before anyone else wastes their money on this POS, I would read reviews on seller sites like Guitar Center or musicians friend. This looper does some cool stuff, but it also crashes often and sometimes randomly changes tempo mid songs. If you play in front of an audience it will embarrass you and make you look like your not professional. I have wasted so much time and money trying to make this POS work correctly.
I wish I never sold my old looper (RC-300). It had less lights and buzzers, but it worked and was dependable. THE RC-600 IS NOT GIG READY.
I am starting to think that there just isn't enough processing power in this device and no firmware update is gonna fix what never worked. I feel cheated out of my money.
I designed my entire show around this pedal being able to slave to a midi clock. The RC-300 wasn't able to do this. Well, the RC-600 can't do it either. You're rhythm tempo will adjust, but loop playback will be a warbly mess. I've contacted Boss, their suggested solutions don't work.
Seriously, avoid this product like the plague.
Sorry to be so negative on JP's page. JP is an incredible loop artist and seems like an overall great person. But I've had more issues with this piece of gear than any other I ever bought.
This is the Window ME of Loop Pedals.

      Wow. What can I say?
I honestly, hand on heart, haven’t had these issues but then I am not working with midi sync. My board has never (touch wood) crashed so far and has only got better. I suppose it’s the midi and the warbling sound, which I am aware of, when you are changing tempos.
I’m just sorry you’ve had this experience. I’ve been gigging with the RC-600 for a while now and no turning back for me. I hope you find something that suits your needs? Maybe look into things like Loopy Pro or another board which you know can do what you need it to.
I hope with time, the firmware gets to a position where you think it’s gig worthy dude.
      🙏
