Star Wars is now one of the biggest franchises in history, but back when it was pitched in the 1970’s it must have sounded pretty strange. The movie has become a classic, but rewatching it raises some questions. Like why was Luke Skywalker so whiny? Why were those imperial soldiers and Stormtroopers so incompetent? Who shot first? Why did Obi Wan Kenobi pick such a bad fake name for himself? Why why the devil hanging out at a space Cantina?

Did you ever read the book version of this movie George Lucas coauthored in the 70s? It provides hilarious insights into what he originally intended Darth Vader to be like!

He actually wasn't that bad in A New Hope. Lucas wrote him to be a slick used-car salesman type so he's actually got some spunk in that movie. The original plan was to have someone else voice him in post-production like they did for Vader. So he's doing things like kicking R2 and outwitting Stormtroopers. It's only in Empire Strikes Back that Anthony Daniels took over and made him totally prissy.
Because it was funnier, likelier. And director Kershner.

I never realized before... maybe Stormtroopers were always terrible shots (no cheek weld, no cover, no bracing, etc), but Obi-Wan just doesn't know anything about infantry and blasters since he's used to working by himself with a short-range laser sword. Obi-Wan has been a crank and a hermit for decades and needs a lot of credibility in a hurry, so he bullshits Luke who doesn't know anything about infantry or blasters either.
@@IainMcClatchie It would make even more sense if he based his knowledge of infantry on his experience with the clone troopers who simply did have had better aim than the stormtroopers.

I just checked, none of the original trilogy’s book versions clarified that point much either. So Lucas just assumed the audience would understand and like what was happening. Not that I have anything against poor Wedge. In Episode V, it did look like not only had Luke been several ranks promoted but Wedge was demoted.

I assumed (probs the reason in the first place) it was because they couldn't get the medal prop around Mathew's costume's neck or in-universe they couldn't fit it around Chewie's. Or they didn't care about the sentient bear-dog companion.
The retcon they came up with had him give it away pre-ceremony to some kid. Which... Didn't they get it AT the ceremony? How's that work?

That movie was set in 1957. He didn’t need the refrigerator, everyone back then knew all you had to do was duck and cover 🤣. I don’t think Ryan did the other three films either, yet anyway so make it so
I got the “complete adventures” on blu ray, but lacking Young Indy kinda makes it incomplete. How about Young Indy on blu ray, I think most fans would prefer that than Crystal Skull. Don’t they own Crystal Skull, well it came with the box set. I didn’t even hate it, it’s just not as great as the previous three. A movie just needs to be watchable and I’m entertained. Still Young Indy goes above it, despite Crystal Skull referencing the episode Spring Break Adventure

Respect for having enough courage to actually roast original trilogy movie. Because people nowadays pretend, like these movies were perfect, and didnt had ANY plot holes at all...
@Furyan Auror The Disney shitfests, yes, absolutely. Don't you dare lump the prequels with those atrocities however. The prequels had issues same as the originals, but they all had the original George Lucas Star Wars spirit.
The OT had more holes than plot, and we knew it when they were first released. In fact, it was part of the fun. I remember totally roasting these movies with friends in 8th grade. Didn't stop us from watching them hundreds of times and loving every minute. Now people treat Star Wars like it's supposed to be holy scripture. What a shame.
No one believed the original trio were perfect, but story telling and movie production has improved and people expect better stories, not worse stories with known story breaking mechanisms. Also, continuity is a thing, a thing that Disney evidently doesn't understand. It is quite obvious Disney doesn't know how to make sequels and spin-offs well. Well over 90% of their follow-ups are straight to TV. And considering they usually use well known and time-tested stories for their originals, it's pretty obvious Disney only knows how to retell old stories someone else thought of.

The stormtrooper WERE trying to use their detecting technology, but they got ambushed while they tried to do that, and Han+Luke stole their armour.
On top of that, they were hiding in the smuggler's hold that Han put in. They're shielded from most standard scanning apparatus and, knowing how Han's mind works, likely are rigged to give off false signals to look like a generic part of the ship.

The original stormtroopers actually WERE precise though... the stormtroopers that boarded the Tantive IV were the 501st legion, some of the last remaining Jango Fett clones. They actually knew how to aim.

i dont get how the vent is a plothole, having a 1 meter wide exhaust port for a moon-sized space station is pretty damn efficient imo
And in engineering a system that large and complex, the amount of emergent properties would be INSANE! AND it's a feat that had never been done before. "This highly advanced, completely unique prototype actually has a serious flaw." is hardly a plot-hole.
It's not the presence of the vent, it's the fact that the enemy didn't shoot them from the hole
