@calitroit45 Implants are definitely the preferred choice but can be costly.... and they last for a Very long time! However, if cost is an issue then I would suggest a partial...yes, you can chew with it but it will not be as sturdy as implants because it is a removable appliance...I hope this helps:)

I see this is from 7 years ago but I got a set a month ago. My mouth is tiny. I have 2 on each side missing, like this patient. My partial looks great but I couldn't swallow and didn't have a place to put my tongue. My dentist seemed rushed and didn't take the time to adjust it. I saw her trimming it with a dremmel tool. I went home and dremmeled it millimeter by millimeter, especially on the roof. I made it so that behind the front teeth, it was tapered or thinned out. Got rid of almost the whole roof. Now it sits perfect. Also, my dentist gave me my impression, so I was able to adjust it perfectly. The question is, does the material behind the front teeth need to even be there? Or, can't I I thin it down even more, so it's just a strip across?

I have a Valplast for 35,36 and 46 for 6 months now. Price is 689,- Euros. 195 Euros of it go to the dentist. You can eat anything with it. Even ice, peanuts, carrots or meat. But it took me about 2 months till I got to that point. My bone was too lazy. It hurt while I was chewing during the first 6 weeks. I was without 3 teeth for a year.
But at the beginning my partials did not fit and it hurt. I thought this was normal but the doctor told me it should not be that way. She tried to fix it but with no luck. So I went to the laboratory where the boss told me that 5/6 weeks are too early for a Valplast after the extraction. Btw.. I had no pain on the other side where the extraction had taken place one year ago. The boss religned the Valplast perfectly.
My tips.. wait at least 8 weeks after the extraction. Then you can chew with power on your bone again. Thanks to the competence of the laboratory I got it fixed perfectly.
Cleaning is easy. Hold it under the water. My partial still looks like new although it has already fallen on the ground many times. Not kidding. It is indeed unbreakable but the teeth could fracture of course.
Some strange positive side effects. Since I have Valplast I have no continuing bone loss and less tartar. Less tartar simply because I clean my partial and mouth after every meal just with water. It takes 10 seconds. It is now a routine.
You see on your Valplast which food causes more tartar. If you eat chocolate you will be surprised how long you have to hold it under the water. I reduced my consumption thanks to this experience. Imagine eating Nutella....
I put it in whater during the night.
Thus I will keep them. Not willing to have implants. If one tooth fracturs I can get it fixed for about 100 Euros within 7 days. What is the price for a broken crone on an implant?
No-one has noticed it that I have partials yet
Keep in mind that you have to accept the fact that partials are not your natural teeth at the beginning. But after some time I bet you won't go out without them. If I put them out I feel like being naked and very uncomfortable. This is the point doctors do not like in Germany. Why should I throw them away now? I can chew now better with Valplast than earlier with my dead teeth which did not let me chew with full power.
Most important thing you should consider: be patient. It will take some time. But it is worth it.
Thanks to TH-cam and doctors in the states I decided to take the risk with no regrets.

The problem you aren't explaining in the video is that with the valplast partial, if you need to add any teeth later on, you can't. With the metal frame you can. Plus the metal frame is better able to withstand greater biting forces.

I like the concept of valplast partial dentures in some cases .Where you have most of the posterior missing and because valplast is so flexible when chewing isn't their more movement of the denture causing sore spots? How do you add teeth to the partial or fix it if it happens to break? Thanks

You are correct. Unfortunately, you cannot add to a Valplast if you lose any more teeth. So you must treatment plan accordingly and make the best decision for the patient. Not everyone is a candidate for a Valplast partial

@@DrTerriAlani Thank you so much for replying!! May I please ask you one more question? Can a person use (or is it a good idea) Valplast on the bottom Mandible? My mom had gotten Valplast about 10 years ago( she loved them) but needed more teeth pulled, so a new dentist made her Acrylic partials for up top and bottom. She's had so many "Adjustments" this go 'round, where the Resin is still to thick or to long for her comfort....and since she had a Valpast done years ago for her Maxillary, we thought to replace the new ones again with Valplast so she can eat and be comfortable again. What would be your professional opinion? Generally speaking?

I just got mine today both sides top there is a bigger bridge and they do not feel snug to my gum there is a gap that when I eat food gets trapped in there. they do not fit well, doctor is saying they will be better with time , I can’t even bite down it hurts my gums so much, I think it’s the same material as this one in your video, the hooks on the side wrap around my tooth but when I eat food gets trapped inside hooks. Thanks for this video I can see that my partials do not fit, also the teeth do not lock together there is a huge gap on the inner side of bottom and top, what should the dentist do about this? She already said the gap should be there, it doesn’t sound right.

I did that they don't answer their phones only emails, we had 12 back and forth emails about why they could not see me sooner they said no appointments until October, if I wanted to see her sooner I would have to go to the next town which is 1 hour away, I have a job and am not able to go that far, the dentist is there everyday they are totally lying about not being able to see me sooner, when I told them I called my insurance and said how much they were charging me for partials they said they never got a claim for that amount and that the dentist sent them a claim for partials of 500+ the insurance sent back the claim because they there were no X-rays or anything included with claim, so they were trying to charge me for that 500+ on top of the 2,445.00 that I had paid already, my insurance said that my portion for the partials should have been 360.00, so when I told them this they called me offering an appointment for this week, all of a sudden the doctor was going to be there this week, by this time I did not want anything to do with that doctor, and so I filed an grievance complaint, I sent them all of my receits along with pictures of partials. All my back teeth are gone and I probably will have only 3 really good teeth that could be saved in front and they will have spaces between them. If you need a lot of natural teeth left, what would be a good other product to use with qualities similar to Valplast? Also is Valplast adjustible?

    • @DrTerriAlani
      @DrTerriAlani  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Sounds as if the partial needs to be religned underneath to correct the gap or remade. After teeth are pulled, the bone resorbs for approx 6 months and the gum will shrink...so the partial will need to be adjusted frequently.....The back left portion will move if it is a distal extension...another words if it does not have a back tooth to hook on to...If that is not the situation, then the dentist needs to adjust until it fits well...Hope this helps and good luck!

I hope you are no longer with your violent partner! But you must make sure your blood sugar is under control...Diabetes has a negative effect on the kidneys, heart and gums...so it is very important to keep your diabetes under control

It depends on how long the span is without the teeth.....would really need to take a look...if Snap-on Smile is not an option, then a Valplast partial will work and then implants at some point
