I'm reading the manual for this MB and it states that the USB Type C on the back IS also displayport output NOT only a standard usb-c port.

That display cable goes from the GPU to the motherboard so you can get video through the thunderbolt port.
I really love the design of those CREATOR motherboards. Simple but elegant. Being a digital artist myself they really speak to me.
Too bad it wasn't available last month when I bought my 1700 motherboard but I was able to grab a MSI Z690 Edge Wifi for 257€ so I don't complain. :]

Can you make a video showcasing various full tower sized motherboards that can be used for the ryzen 5950x? I am at a standstill trying to pick the one with the most pcie slots for peripherals like extra usb 3 via pcie cards, FireWire cards, and those that can still fit a big gpu like an rtx3800, and also has enough I/O for extras

I wish in your outstanding reviews you will look at the sound quality of the MB. Many times when I am working with things that have no sound, like photography or boring tasks like taxes or updating my website, I will play music or podcast through the computer while working. Sound quality is important to me because it helps me be creative.
I think as long as you use the back ports of the motherboard the sound quality should be pretty good.
Here's the tip, front panel audio ports are always much lower quality than the back of the motherboard ;)
Have you seen the Gigabyte Z690 Aero D ? Looks like a killer creator mobo, but we have no info on release and price yet. Could it be better than the Z690 ProArt ?

some one else probably already told you but the DP in on 8:50 is to have you video out from your graphics card into your mother board and have a single usb c to your monitor. unfortunately it isn't thunderbolt 4 thou.....

I love the look, I'm on the fence about the features vs price... I with it had more/faster usb ports in the rear. Is that a limitation of the b660 boards or just an oversight? There are cheaper z690 motherboards from asus that make this one feel like you're paying for the looks.

I think asus tuf z690 wifi have a better value than this. On my country there’s no price difference between those motherboards.

If you edit on Premiere go for b660 Proart, since it's MUCH cheaper. If money is not an obstacle or you edit on Resolve I think the Z690 Aero G DDR4 is a better board, well I don't think I know, coz it is :)
it'd be great if it had WiFi built-in like with the DDR5 version, instead of an add-on. It seems that there's always something that's not quite perfect with every board, whether it's a missing feature, reduced number of M.2 or PCIe slots, unaffordable DDR5 instead of DDR4, missing WiFi or HDMI/DP out (for CPUs with iGPU), and not least these days, price!

It's it a big upgrade from my 5700xt? Haven't tested it for video editing yet but all i know is that with the 5700xt sapphire nitro it would stutter in payback and scrubbing, will i have less to no stutter on a7iv footage? The Display Port In routes the video signal from the Graphic card to the USB C at the back of the board which is able to use DisplayPort Alt so It can output video .

I feel they missed the mark on this MB. If they are going to call it a creator MB, than it should have real creator features. I would have rather they had a normal front USB-C header, thunderbolt 4, WiFi/Bluetooth, and a 10 G NIC. Even if that made the MB cost $300 US it would be worth it. Especially since it has DDR 4, instead of DDR 5 which is hard to get and very expensive right now.

I could totally be wrong, but the dp in port thing has something to do with one of the higher end pro art monitors
Dp to usbc video adapters are expensive and buggy. So for someone out there this could provide good value. Probably not something most people who are buying this board are going use though. Seems out of place given the lack of cheaper more standard features.

It's terrible that you don't get Thunderbolt on a creator motherboard but have to buy an Asus thunderbolt card, this mb is garbage and you should just get the Z690 instead.

@@theTechNotice The motherboard lists usb-c alt mode support on Asus website, so no Thunderbolt but does support alt mode for usb-c monitors.

this is a creator board not a gaming board. creators don't need 2 GPU's. it has a second slot but only runs at X8 for GPU.

You have removed m😢 confusion between B550 creator and B 660 creator motherboards.
Well, in Canada 32gb RAM DDR5 is 400$ and DDR4 is 200$, Motherboard Asus Z690 is 580$ and Asus B660 is 300$. So getting the two for 980$ or lower specs for 500$, ok almost the double but its 480$ more assuming that a computer last at least 5 years so a bit less than 100$/year, 8$/month. Personally I dont think its a big deal, get what you want and that's it.

The price of Asus B660 ProArt Creator D4 is the same as Gigabyte Z690M AORUS ELITE AX (with 6 sata ports and wifi 6). Good luck (suck) to Asus with pricing point!

BIG MISTAKE!!! Well, turns out the USB-C port on the back actually DOES support video output when GPU is connected to DP in. Works similarly as Gigabyte's Visionlink. So it's not TB4 (Thunderbolt) port, but the usual USB 3.2 Gen 2 with display through port. :)

I believe this board has a Thunderbolt 4 header which allows you to add a TB4 pcie card in the future if you wish.
The use of a mini display inside the case is standard some where.
@8:28 Why do you say, you're not going to get output from USB-C? The Asus website, under Technical Specs says: "1 x USB Type-C port supports DisplayPort output***" WHICH IS WHY I came here, cause I haven't succeeded at making it work yet. I have a BENFEI USB-C to VGA, but it is not recognizing the monitor - BUT I also have 5 PCI devices in device manager showing no drivers. I have downloaded all the drivers on the support page of Asus. [MORE] if I figure it out. Sorry it wasn't in the video - yea, do this to make it work... ;-(
UPDATE: So far this is a total fail. I am now 9 times into Asus support with escalation. First, there are some drivers that apparently are not on the Asus support download website, they were only on the CD, so Asus sent me those links and I now have a "clean" Device Manager list of devices with no missing drivers. I have now tried BenFei, Anker, Cable Creation, and now Asus recommendation of MAXONAR USB-C to DP / VGA / HDMI cables. All of them ding as accepting the device on USB-C connection, NONE of them report to Windows 10 that a new monitor is available. Settings -> Display -> DETECT monitor all report "Didn't detect another display". So the only display I have is the HDMI backplane out to DVI monitor. I have asked why there is a DP IN on the backplane but Asus support has not responded to that question, nor told me that DP IN is required for USB-C. Again the goal is 2+ monitor support on this board, my i7-12700K processor states graphics out HDMI 2.1 (I assume that is the HDMI on the backplane) DP 1.4a and eDP 1.4b. I assume the USB-C should be the DP 1.4a Alt Mode.
FINAL UPDATE: The USB-C DP OUT is NOT INTERNAL! There is no GPU to USB-C connection on this board! YOU MUST BUY A VIDEO CARD, then the 1FT *INCLUDED* (how nice) DP to DP can pass the DP to the DP-IN (on back plane) WHICH THEN passes through to the USB-C (just a passthrough onboard the USB chip). THIS MOTHERBOARD IS ONLY ONE MONITOR OUTPUT (like the original video says, YOU WONT GET VIDEO OUT ON THE USB-C!!) QUESTION: Who in the creative world would be happy with ONE MONITOR? QUESTION: Why buy a VIDEO CAPABLE motherboard and a CPU with GPU output -- IF YOU *MUST* BUY A VIDEO CARD ANYWAY? Save your money, buy a NON-VIDEO output motherboard, a NON-GPU CPU version, then buy an expensive video card with USB-C or whatever you want your output to be ON THE VIDEO CARD you are buying anyway! A TOTALLY WORTHLESS, INSANE DESIGNED MOTHERBOARD!

For cteators. It is better to go for Proart z 690 creator. No thunderbolt 4 port, SSD 5 support and optical port. It better to spend 225 bucks than to sleep with this sick mb.

Honestly this board is so terrible compared to the "low-end" AMD version (B-550). I don't even know what makes this board earn the 'CREATOR' label, you could just get a cheaper B660 instead.
The AMD version has a lot more IO, it actually has DP over thunderbolt, wifi and one more 2.5Gbe network port.
