  • In this video, we take an in-depth look at the GoPro Hero 12 Black's new Profiles and Lens Types at Duthie Hill to help you find the ideal settings for your mountain biking footage. We'll explore the three available GoPro Profiles - Standard, HDR, and LOG - and compare the mtb specific lenses SuperView and HyperView.
    Plus, we'll experiment with the Max Lens Mod 2.0 to showcase Max SuperView and Max HyperView options to determine if the new GoPro accessory is worth the extra $100 and enhances POV mountain bike footage.
    All footage is filmed at Duthie Hill Mountain Bike park: www.trailforks.com/region/dut...

    Great video. I did not plan to use 8:7 as wide is not sufficient for MTB POV in my opinion… but now I understood that with 8:7 superview and hyperview is both possible in post in the GoPro Quick app… that ist even better since I do not need to decide between wide/SV/HV when filming and have even 9:16 on top and can also change it up/down in case of wide … that is perfect … I checked 8:7 + post digital lens SV/HV and direct SV/HV it is exactly the same …

    I think the max lens mod is worth it if you are using a chest mount as it acts as a mini gimbal, but when using a chin mount or anything else associated with the helmet I just feel like its unnecessary as your head will stabilize most footage!

    Great video for showing the improvements the G12 has for controlling highlight burnouts. A little negative EV adjustment can help save the the highlights in "standard" mode for those previous camera models. I normally use an EV -0.5. Nice skills on the bike park!

    So in that section on Voodoo, where you cropped from 8:7 to 9:16, there wasn't actually more footage vertically, right? does it just crop off the sides? vs mounting the gopro sideways and shooting in 9:16. I still run the 8 and waiting until I crack the lens before upgrading. Some trails are great with the gopro mounted sideways.

    • @MTBCoop
      @MTBCoop  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep! If you shoot in 8:7 with the new GoPro 12, you can just add that footage to a 9:16 timeline without cropping! I agree with the GoPro 8 vertically. It does product a super nice image! I loved my vertical mount from ProBike 3D

    Great Video. How does the 8:7 to 16:9 conversion work? The 16:9 footage looks slightly distorted, is there a way to eliminate this?

    • @Outdoor_Wanderer
      @Outdoor_Wanderer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Conversion work is a bit complicated. In order to get the GOPRO Superview or Hyperview you need to import the video in the GOPRO app and then choose lens and view and export again. In my experience that creates a video of a lower quality. If you try to crop the 8:7 in Davinci you will not get the same view at all. It works for 9:16 I guess.

    • @MTBCoop

      HDR is limited to 4k. I personally don’t think HDR is worth the lower resolution. If I were you, I’d get a hero 12 and shoot 5k superview! You could always shoot 8:7 and then change your aspect ratio after the fact.

    As cool as the Max Lens Mod 2.0 hyperview footage looks, being able to see your arms, it's hard to see the trail, and the stabilization for a medium to poorly lit trail like in a forest doesn't do that great.
    It doesn't look like you're using the GoPro Reframe plugin, which will let you dynamically scale that 8:7 footage into hyperview, so the tire (or whatever is in the center of the screen) still maintains some kind of normal aspect ratio. You can also use it to remove the lens distortion for vertical content. That way you can just shoot in 8:7 always and mess with it in the GoPro app or on the computer.

    • @MTBCoop
      @MTBCoop  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed! I think 8:7 is the way to go. Thank you for the tip on the GoPro Reframe Plugin! I use Davinci Resolve so not available to me now. Looks like the Quik App is where I will have to go to change Lens/Aspect ratio. Awesome tip - thanks!

      @MckWells 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MTBCoop
      I use Davinci Resolve Studio strictly for color grading (mostly for my work projects when I'm handling huge black magic raw files), and I do all my editing in Premiere. Davinci is almost too complex for regular editing work for me, and there are plugins, like that GoPro one that aren't there. I wish had Davinci had more developer support or some form of cross compatibility. I also have spent years working in After Effects, I feel like a stranger when I try to do any VFX in Davinci.
      Duthie looks really fun btw. I'm down near Portland, we have Rocky Point, Sandy Ridge, Larch Mountain, and Post Canyon as our main spots. Seems like there is more up in northern WA.

      It has a similar feel but the lens mod hyperview definitely increases the FOV considerably. Base hyperview you can see his wrist and up to his elbow at times, max lens hyperview you frequently see the sleeves of his shirt. It's probably not the way to go for mountain biking, but I'm taking a look at this with chest or shoulder mounted rock climbing in mind and I think the extra FOV might help a lot there. It gets a little cramped with the camera so close to the wall so I think every degree of FOV could help a ton.
