I compared the hero 10 black with the Max Lens Mod 1.0 compared to my Hero 7 black. The Hero 7 black almost has the same wide view as the hero 10 black with the max lens mod 1.0. The hero 12 black is a bit wider but with bigger distortion at the edges, which in most cases defeats the purpose.
The footage looks great! Planning on upgrading from my 9 with the MLM1. Debating on recording in the 8:7 for more flexibility. Did you do any testing with that? Does it look pretty good without warping?
I'd say all the different modes have quite a bit of distortion. If you are okay with it is subjective, but in my opinion I will not be using the MLM2 for my videos.
I highly suspect the reason why you have more "shakiness" in your mountain biking footage with hypersmooth on and horizon lock on is due to "hypersmooth jitter". In the trees you have a low light environment which causes your shutter speed to plummet to let in more light in order to maintain reasonable EV value. Then the lower shutter speed introduces motion blur into the footage which causes hypersmooth to act up. Luckily you can use goprolabs firmware and set the EXPX (minimum shutter speed, although goprolabs engineers called it maximum shutter speed which is incorrect) to a value of say 300 (5x 60fps, max fps that you can get with gp12 + mlm2.0 on 16:9 Max Hyperview). This way you will never get motion blur and hypersmooth will never act up. I also set EV compensation to -1 because I don't need my footage in a dark area to look like as if it was taken on the surface of the sun. I tested the settings i mentioned just last weekend on a ski trip and got great footage during the sunny day time as well as night time.
I'd agree with you if I had not already set a manual shutter speed. Those clips I made sure to set every single parameter to the same thing to remove all other factors than shake. I even tried to ride at the exact same pace, and effort. I also use EXPX=170 in this video on other shots if I remember correctly.
@@MarkusFinholt what was the fps used? if It was 60fps then EXPX=170 wouldn't be fast enough of a minimum shutter speed. Would be okay if you were using 30fps or less with that EXPX value though.
@@brianzee2561 Wrong. Framerate is irrelevant when it comes to stabilization, up to a point. 25, 30, or 60p have virtually no difference on stabilization when the shutter is so much faster. Regardless it was shot in 25 or 30p. The only way it would have an effect is if the shutter is slower than the framerate, which would lead to ghosting, or capped frames.
btw how durable is the lens itself? would you put a go pro with lens 2.0 in your cycling jersey back pocket without rubber cover or will it get scratches instantly?
No idea tbh. I'm not sure if it's even waterproof? But I think it would be great. Have you tried the normal lens and hyperview yet? It should be really good as well.
shouldnt MLM 2.0 Wide + Horizon Lock be awesome for ski pov/chest/helm shots? i'm suprised you didnt include it in the examples. i havent tested it myself yet, but from my research MLM 2.0 Wide should be comparable FOV-wise to SuperView without MLM, but having Horizon Lock at 4k/60 at that FOV should be really good for skiing ... in theory ... what do you think?
Hello. I have max lens 2.0. There is a difference in quality between the 4k 60 images I took with the original hero12 lens and the 4k 60 images I took with the Max lens 2.0. The image is blurry with the Max lens 2.0, the focus is less, I get much better picture quality without the Max lens, is this normal?
I think this is because when you use regular 4k, the whole sensor is used. So you basically get 5k downscaled to 4k which improves quality. And when max lens 2 is used, the original picture looks like at 4:30 and GoPro needs to crop the image to get the "normal" picture out of it, so you're using the sensor in a crop mode.
Somebody made a MLM2 lens correction for Gyroflow? You point to the profile made by Eddy (Gyroflow author) -- are you saying MLM2 is supported in Gyroflow now?
I think it works! Havent tinkered too much with it. But it might also be a preset for a different lens correction that happens to work somewhat with the raw data, so take it with a grain of salt.
Those jumps on the mountain bike WERE NOT 2 meters or 6.4ft in the air!!!! I've skateboarded all my life and your lucky if your bback tire was 1 meter off the ground! Tho I do agree with that it does make it look smaller! But 2 meters would make it too where u were jumping over a 6ft person, nno way bud! Your air time. / hang time would much much longer at those heights
The mention of height vs steepness is very helpful, thank you!
This video is solid! Been looking forward to more max lens mod 2.0 skiing POV footage and I think it looks great!
This is the review I've been looking for! thanks for the POV!
wow! what a beatiful high quality video!
Great Review!!

The Used lens market now is populated. In USD $ I can purchase a New lens for $99. And Used, for $69. Seems more attractive to me at that lower price.
Damn, your gopro footage looks great! Way better than most I've seen. What's the secret sauce?

HI! Do you have a Profile MaxLensMod 2.0 for Gyroflow? can you share it? Thanks!
I have a video file from a GoPro 13 (4k, 1:1), and I filmed it without stabilization with MLM 2.0 and I'm wondering how to open it in Gyroflow now 🙈
Love it! looking at this for skiing. Are you using a chest mount or helmet mount for your skiing POV?
This was using a helmet mount!

Did you ever try the gyroflow profile?
Honestly I don't think it worked properly and haven't bothered since.

Hey Marcus. Good video. What is your skis for this season if i may ask.
Majesty skis:
- vanguard carbon
- bear xl
- dirty bear
- havoc
Er bro fra Norge?
yes, dette er i Nesfjellet
So stabilize by gyroflow with those lens not good? And after preset is good?
I don't think there is a solution for it yet unfortunately.
is x4 better that gpro 12 + mod?
What’s the difference between using the normal hyper view of the GoPro and using the hyper view with the max lens?
Original lens hyperview is smaller than the max lens mod 2.0 hyperview.
btw how durable is the lens itself? would you put a go pro with lens 2.0 in your cycling jersey back pocket without rubber cover or will it get scratches instantly?
I assume it's pretty durable, but have not tested it or anything.
bro I can't decide, do you recommend gopro max or 12+ max lens2.0 for skiing?
No, I would buy a used hero 11 instead.
@@MarkusFinholt why
hello friend, I have this lens but it fogs up at -5 what to do max lens mod 2.0
I have the same issue.
Hi, would you recommend this for surfing? I bought the basic pack and I’m still thinking if this lens is for me.

I think it can be good yeah. I don't have a chest mount, but I think as long as you're not skiing super deep pow, it can look great.

slightly lower quality is expected from such a wide lens

@@MarkusFinholt Thanks Marcus! Have you tested Hypersmooth/Autoboost enabled/disabled w/Gyroflow and do you have any opinions either way?
Autoboost is not available with the MLM2.0, and it's not something I ever use anyway. The change in FOV makes you dizzy.
I find my self having to set the shutter speed ridiculously high with the lens mod 2.0

GoPro Max or Insta 360 X3 is better than this, there is a unique extra smoothness which linear wide + MM2 doesn’t provide
That smoothness is not realistic looking. This provides much more accurate stabilization.
