I know it's a pain and a lot of extra work getting all those alternate takes and angles for a video, but I think they add a lot. It was worth the effort IMO.
It's easier in this case because i was sessoning single features. Its a lot harder on normal trails because it requires stopping and hiking back, or asking someone else to film which can be annoying for them.
First off, backflips will ALWAYS be cool. 2nd, it’s nice to see you session a step up with some tricks. That was unexpected. 3rd, I can’t backflip, so not EVERYBODY can do it. 😉
I'm so envious of your ability to get onto a jump trail that you either don't know or haven't ridden in a long time and just flow so smoothly. I don't jump because they get in my head too much. I'd love to learn and get comfortable with them, though.
Phil I’ve been using your videos to help my daughter get used to looking further down the trail. She has a bad habit of watching her front tire. Keep up the awesomeness!
I learned to ride here over 12 years ago and still ride here to this day! Such a gem, so glad you could show it off to the community! I love that the park has everything from beginner to expert. It's great to take someone riding for the first time or 1,000th time
Hey Bud it is not free. Somebody has to buy the tools and materials to build and maintain. Have you donated to Evergreen? Remember nothing in this world is free.
@@antoniomedina428 You know what he meant but you just gotta be that guy. Fine, I'll be that guy too. In your own words, "nothing in this world is free". What's your rationale behind oxygen not being free? The trees have to produce it?
This bike park looks so good I would love to ride there and be at the same skill level as you. Thanks for the extra angles I know it takes a lot of extra work
NO WAY! I went here while on vacation a week ago!! HLC was the first black diamond trail I've ever cleared and it was amazing, so cool to see you there!
First TH-cam video with a backflip I ever saw was Phil on the Raleigh Tokul hardtail. I had searched for Tokul because I had just bought one, my first "modern" mountain bike. Subscribed to Phil right then and there!
i got into riding at duthie and it has grown, especially those sweetlines bike camps as a kid helped me progress a ton to where i am today, nowadays i dont ride there as much as i am on the sweetlines race team and we train at raging river but i like to go back when i can. edit: i am planning on spending some time there because the new jumps and trails are amazing, the builders have gotten so much better in the last couple months, also at 4:30 i actually helped rebuild that jump (deepwater)
Just rode at Duthie yesterday. It made me wish there was something even remotely similar closer to where I live. I've been learning to jump over the past year and I think having a park like Duthie with so much variety where it's so easy to get repetition and practice is crucial!
Yup, it's 25 minutes away from me and back when I first started MTB, I made what felt like 3-4 years of progress in a single summer. So good to practice jumps, cornering, pumping, drops, etc.
Great video Phil! I heard about Duthie Hill from Seth's a year or so ago, so I went there for a week this past July on my way to Whistler again. It's an awesome park in so many ways. I can't wait to revisit. Thanks.
I was just thinking last week that I need to go there to brush up on some skills. Thanks for the motivation! 😆 It’s always worth the hour drive to get there. And thanks for the additional views in the video.
i love your videos and ive been watching you for sometime. i did not know you could do tricks and it makes me enjoy you that much more. thank you for your videos
Lived a mile from this place. When people bring up mountain biking in the PNW they always seem to go to galbraith mountain or whistler or something. I truly believe that this place should be mentioned among them for the simple facts that it has everything for eveyone, you can get reps, its free, and...NO CLIMBING
Hell ya. Duthie Hill is amazing, especially when you just don't wanna climb much and focus more on developing skills. Tiger and Raging are also awesome and close by.
So cool to see you ride our local trails. The trail beside double trouble that was recently rebuilt is called GHY. Hope it’s open the next time you’re in town.
You should Go to Millstone in Vermont again, that place was crazy!! Been trying to get friends to go up with me from Southern NH but every time something comes up!!
Something about your camera angle makes Deep Water Horizon look super scary, which its actually very chill... If you havent checked it out when you were in the area exit 27 is kind of meca for locals.
I was so close to get to ride this, earlier this year. I have a lot of business trips to Seattle / Redmond, but never ever in summer.... And then i had to cancel last second.... So nice to see that i missed, and the next time I have a change to go in summertime I will take a personal day, rent a eMTB and go :)
You can ride Duthie basically all year. Wood features can get sketchy in the wet, but most of the trails there drain really well. So don't feel like you need to wait for a summer trip to hit it!
It was funny, just after you hit that big jump, I said to myself 'dang thatd be sweet if he had a huck cam' and then you went and set a couple up! Nice. Also, Ive always wondered how do people get good doing backflips, or any kind of flip, without breaking their neck learning? Is it a visualize alot, then just send it sort of thing, or is there alot of crash n burns (hopefully minus the broken neck) before you get it? Thanks for all the good videos!
I just started mountain biking with my dad(I’m 13) and I really think look up to u and my dad it would be awesome if u came to pa for a while and hit up some trail like Trexler and blue mountain
Hey Phil, nice riding! How do you handle anxiety when you ride trails like that? I live an hour from Duthie and I tend to avoid it like the plague. I have an anxiety disorder and I've only ridden just a few trails there over the last several years. I want to try some of the harder stuff but it scares me to death!
Ok. Was trying to have this on as just like background sound while studying but found myself leaning back and forth too much to study, trying to help you through the turns I guess...lol
Hey Phil. I am doing a tubeless conversion on my GT Aggressor using Michelin Wild Enduro tires. Yes I used rim tape to make the wheels TR. Hopefully it allows me to ride the massive slippery log behind my house.
For context most pros replace their bikes every year and the top guys even more. I like to hold onto mine for 2 years to show that they are durable bikes. After two years the components on the bike are pretty beat but the frames themselves while scratched /chipped are still completely operational.
