    Horsepower = torque * RPM/5252
    So if you have 100 lb-ft if torque at 5252 RPM your car will make 100 horsepower, however if your car can Rev to 7,878 RPM your car will make 150 horsepower.
    Imagine two people were driving at 30 mph and then started racing each other with the exact same car except one engine had 200 horsepower and 100 lb-ft of torque and the other had 100 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. If both cars were to accelerate as fast as they could in the same gear, the car with more torque would accelerate faster, however if the car with more horsepower were to shift into a gear that is at least two times as aggressive (which it can do because horsepower=torque*rpm/5252 so if the horsepower is bigger but the torque is smaller the RPM must be much bigger) the car with more power will be making more torque at the wheels and so will accelerate faster.
    Engineering Explained did a number of excellent videos on this topic, especially the one he talks about what the best RPM to shift at is.

      Because the engine is spinning 10x the speed, but creating the same amount of force (torque) as the slower engine. It can have 10x more aggressive gearing and so have 10x the wheel torque. Meaning simply it would theoretically be 10x as fast to accelerate, with the same top speed

    BTW peak horsepower is guess what, the peak. Your car isn't electric or a performance CVT. The honest whp of a car is the mean of 1st gear with traction and the next gear.
    Ex) Peak whp is 500@6800 rpm, the next gear drops rpm to 5200 rpm. Assuming constant torque your average whp is 441whp.
    Don't ever flex your peak whp, you'll be humbled.
    An even more accurate measure would be to find the mean of the means for all the gears you're going to use, but that's too long.

      Avg horsepower use to acceleratecar before hit the wall is how fast how strong and how big damage be upon collision on both car and wall 👌🏻torque be turnoff /knockout at 300 km/h hitying the wall cos nothingleft from engine and car maybe except rear bum 😂 unless wall be masę offsh.traper 👍🏻

    Horsepower: overall power, more hp=higher top speed.
    Torque: the shit that throws you back in your seat, the torque is the speed that the car accelerates

      Again this isn’t really correct, because the engines power and torque is always modified by the transmission.
      A good example is an engine with 200tq and 100hp vs an engine with 200tq and 1,000hp.
      If they had exactly the same gearbox, at low engine speeds they would feel the same.
      But if they had ideally suited transmissions the 1khp motor would produce 10x the wheel torque per gear, and so give you 10x the ‘pushed back into your chair’ acceleration

    Torque = Lifting weights
    Horsepower = Using the treadmill

    Tiny issue, it's just a conversion thing and obviously you're american so I get it, but if you're going to talk science, at least use Newton-Metres and Watts as your units.

    I don't get why manufacturers care to increase these metrics if the vast majority of consumers do not need their max speed or crazy accelerations. What do consumers get out of this?

    Torque is better for me because it's what you feel. There's nothing like being pushed back into the seat when you accelerate.

      power is what you feeel not torque 😉 ( well ok both depend on test regulation /point of view let say ) feg 100 nm at 2000 rpm at 100 km/h pedal to the metal vs 50 nm at 6000 rpm at 100 km/h pedal to the metal in which version you fell stronger push back into seat? its second 🤷🏻‍♂️🤭 which generate more power ? its second version 👍🏻 but it depend on point of view on set gear you are right 👍🏻 bigest push well ok biger push you would feel at peak engine crank torque rpm than at peak engine crank hp rpm 👌🏻 but on set speed only peak power rpm can exert strongest push you back into seat 👍🏻 and because on race track assuming the same grip each vehicle have each vehicle are always in the same part of track at the same speed so only peak power rpm can give tham max acceleration or like you like call this stuff strongest push back into the seat 😉👍🏻 from 50 from 100 from 150 from 200 asf only peak power rpm can accelerate best cos watt:m/s = force .

    Can't have horsepower unless you have torque first , torque wins
