What sucks is I love the beginning with Norman trying to fit back into society and struggling and trying to help peter out of guilt for hurting him so much by giving him things like his new suit but everything else sucks instead of focusing on the best parts it focuses on the worst and it sucks for it I love Norman in the beginning and it's sad to see him wasted

@@mnstash He also ruined Black Cat in 2009. Nick Spencer is the only modern writer I'd remotely trust with Spider-Man (maybe Donny Cates) and DeMatteis or DeFalco are the classic guys I'd trust. I feel like though there are shittons of younger writers who grew up with 90s/early 2000s era Spider-Man (1994 cartoon+marriage era comics+Raimi movies+Neversoft video games) who would for sure get the character. But Marvel will never hire them.
Since 4th of July is coming up, how about reviewing a great Captain America comic? I think the Tales of Suspense issue where Cap and Red Skull fight with the Cosmic Cube.
At this point, I can see three possible ways that Marvel could salvage their brand and comics. Option 1: Do a complete overhaul of all titles and focus more on the story and pull back on the gimmicks and pandering. Find what works in the current runs and stick with that. Option 2: Pull a DC crisis and reboot the entire universe. Wipe the slate clean and bring everyone back to square one. It'll be messy, and it'll leaves every character up for tampering and alterings, but these writers have retconned so many things that it's the only merciful thing to do. Option 3: Split the timeline. Release a new brand of books that's an alternate timeline set after One More Day, where Spider Man didnt accept the deal with Mephisto. Bring all the characters back to that point in time, to before they were all butchered. This will undo all the terrible retcons, erase all terrible plots and allow the characters a chance to have better stories with a new writing team. They can still keep the current runs but rename this universe Earth 717 or 626 or something similar. This way, Marvel can keep pandering to "Modern Audiences" while the rest of us can enjoy stories that appeal to us, with characters who are given the respect they deserve.

Okay, so we have: -All the clone Spiders, like Ben Riley & Cain. -The Spiders that come from alternate universes, like Miles And Spider-Gwen. -The various legacy Spider-Women. -Silk -Spider-Boy -ect. Now we have completely random characters taking on the Spider mantle like Nightcrawler & Green Goblin! Can we please have a rule in place where there are only 1 or 2 active spider-people per continuity?
I think it was perfectly fine when it was just Spider-Man and spider woman in the 616 the rest should be in their own thing because it starts to make it feel so cluttered and almost cheapens Spider-Man of that world

Another great critical review. It can't be said enough how terrible this run has been. Joe Kelly is taking over "ASM". I'm not impressed or optimistic. He's the writer who wrote Pete to say MJ is like a sister to him. Plus as other commenters have rightfully pointed out, Kelly was one of the "OMD/BND" writers with Dan Slott. Who knows what more irreparable damage Kelly will do to "ASM"? However, as a SpiderCat fan, if he decides to have Peter and Felicia get back together and marry, be the power couple they should be, have kids, and finally Peter becomes a successful scientist, even using Oscorp. continuing the Zeb Wells arc that Norman Osborn is signing over his industries to Peter, I'm all for it. I think that was a lost opportunity when Peter got back his body from Doc Ock after the "Superior Spider-man" storyline. Peter should have become successful back then. Not in the same way as Tony Stark, but a lesser successful version. Isn't it about time Peter can pay his rent? I've accepted Peter and MJ will never get back together in "ASM", that's why we have "USM". It's 17 years now since the marriage was dissolved, and too much time has passed. Almost a generation hasn't seen them together except for a short time during the Nick Spencer run. I think that "ship has sailed", and it's time to move on to a new love interest for Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I'd be open to having Mockingbird come back, Spider-Gwen from the multiverse, or a new character who is a superhero to be with Spidey. However, definitely not Ms. Marvel. I hope Hickman keeps "USM" going in the right direction and doesn't leave "USM" too soon. Kelly won't put MJ back with Peter, and who will Kelly have as Peter's next love interest? Too many unknowns to think anything good is going to come in "ASM" in the next run/volume. Keep up the great work. I appreciate how you're trying to be creative in your videos. Cheers.

Well, at least there's the light at the end of the tunnel where we know that Zeb Wells' run will finally end in just a few months on September 11th. It's really bizarre and awkward that it's happening on the anniversary of 9/11 but I'm pretty sure (and I hope) that was unintentional. 1:13 I prefer Twitter not X because we all know how terrible Elon Musk is at naming things, just look at his kids' names. 4:14 Admittedly in the original symbiote storyline (in the comics) it didn't affect Peter Parker's personality (it just really wanted to stay with him forever, and it's more accurate to say Peter corrupted the symbiote), and that aspect (and several other aspects common in Spider-Man adaptations like Green Goblin split personality, Dr. Connors being Peter’s school teacher/mentor, Otto Octavius being Peter’s mentor, Eddie Brock being a rival coworker, Eddie Brock taking incriminating pictures of Spider-Man, John Jameson bringing the symbiote to Earth, Dr. Connors being the person who discovers that the symbiote is alive, The Vulture having a vendetta against Norman Osborn (or just being wronged by someone very wealthy), Norman Osborn being in league with the Kingpin (or the show’s Kingpin equivalent), Spider-Man teaming up with alternate universe versions of himself) originated from the 90s series, and making a symbiote storyline that's an adaptation of the comics and not the 90s series would be extremely subversive. 6:41 To quote Morpheus “What is real? Joe Kelly has been leaked as his replacement and im like...i dont know how i feel about that on one hand hes done some pretty good things like some really well written deadpool books and created ben 10 but also he wrote peter to say he loves MJ as a sister so like😭 Yeah the fact it didnt corrupt peter is like such a hidden piece of knowledge now just due to how none of the recent stories actually adapt it which is sad
@@mnstash Correct me if I'm wrong on this but I'm pretty sure the only story to actually adapt the Symbiote storyline from the comics and not the '90s series is Marvel's Midnight Suns game, which wasn't even a Spider-Man story, because it was a team game.
I just wanted to add one more comment about the Joe Kelly rumor about his future tenure as the "ASM" writer. My main concern is every new writer will take "ASM" in a new direction. No commitment to continuity. What "ASM" needs is a writer who's committed to writing "AsM" for 5 years or at least 3 years. This way there is a direction for the comic. In the old days, writers came and went in the comic, but the storyline was similar between the writers. Today, writers retcon the previous writer's storyline and take the book into a completely new storyline. This was the case when Zeb Wells retconned everything Nick Spencer did in the previous volume. Is this the future of "ASM"? Will Joe Kelly retcon the Zeb Wells storyline? Kelly will establish a new storyline for 18 months, and then the next writer retcons Kelly's storyline. The new writer starts Peter Parker in another storyline for a couple of years only to be retconned again when the next writer comes on board to write "ASM". This isn't a good business strategy from the Editorial Staff at Marvel. However, they've been a bunch of buffoons since "OMD/BND", and that includes writer Joe Kelly. What a disaster this is. I know Dok likes Joe Kelly, but as a writer for "ASM", he;'s abysmal. Now under his tenure on "ASM", the comic is going to be funny. Isn't it funny in a bad way already? Jeez! What a joke! I'm done following this garbage. Why get invested in this comic when you know whatever storyline runs for 1 year to two is only going to be retconned by a new writer who BTW will reboot the comic with a new volume and a new # 1 issue. WHHHOOOOPPPEEE!!!
I think that too is a major difference of today from the older asm comics. The series actually continued even if they swapped out writers without ever doing a reboot (save for the late 90s/2000s) but then now it’s like any excuse to reboot the series and do another issue 1 purely for sales is their top priority since the books on their own don’t sell. One thing I like about the spawn comic series is Todd (even tho he doesn’t write them anymore) refuses to reboot the series or even go back to issue one!

Hey MNStash, I hope all is well this week. I keep forgetting to review the "Spider-Man Unlimited (SU") comic. Spoiler alert. This comic is supposed to be in the same continuity as "ASM". I reviewed up to issue # 42. Issue # 43 was released last week on 6/25, but isn't on any website yet. In this comic, I think the overall storyline in SU is trash like "ASM". Even though I like the new character Linda Locke/Webhead for Peter Parker/Spider-Man, they had to make her non-binary because she didn't want a name expressing her gender, and I know Marvel won't put these two together in that book. They always find a way to ruin Peter Parker's personal life. I'd like to see Spidey with The Black Cat since I'm a SpiderCat fan, but this new character, Mockingbird, or even Firestar would make a great girlfriend for Peter. It's time to move on from MJ, as Zeb Wells has ruined MJ and Peter's relationship, and I don't think Joe Kelly will bring them back together when he takes over "ASM". I'm open to Peter having a superheroine girlfriend who also compliments him. This new character could work if done correctly. Have you read this comic? We might have touched upon this book months ago, but it might have only been in passing. It isn't easy to keep up with these alternate Spider-Man comics because you'd think the book might have been canceled. "SU" is made by Infinity Comics. Let me know your thoughts. At this point it seems like they don’t even want to focus on his personal life anymore. Hey MNStash. Rumors circulating, that Joe Kelly is going to be an 18-month temporary assignment writing "ASM" until the writer who Marvel wants to write "AsM" becomes available. Then Marvel will reboot "ASM", probably with a new volume #1 issue. Yikes! Unfortunately, the foreseeable future is looking very bleak to me. There's no long-term commitment to continuity or anything positive for that matter. The comic is destined for mediocrity or worse. It's a shame. I won't even follow the comic by then, Who cares to follow such garbage for the next few years at least. I hope "USM" stays the course, so I have something to look forward to reading. Cheers.

Well, a new announcement from Marvel. Joe Kelly will be taking over "ASM" in the fall, and his 1st story arc is going to be 8 Deaths of Spider-Man a 10-issue Arc. The other writer will be Justina Ireland who wrote the "Blood Hunt" event/arc and wrote the Star Wars Books relating to the High Republic. Also, the book will have Ed McGuinness and Gleb Melnikov. Ireland is another DEI hire, woke, SJW, who talks about misogyny and racism and is another talentless hack. Her blood hunt event is awful. This is being done because there hasn't been as much hype regarding Joe Kelly taking over "ASM" Why would there be, he's one of the buffoons who wrote "BND" back in 2007. Why would I get excited about Kelly taking over the writing? This sounds like a disaster to me. A writer who wrote "Star Wars High Republic" books no one bought or wanted to read. As some of the other commenters have already pointed out on other TH-cam channels, this is a "Trojan Horse" where Kelly is just putting his name on the comic and Justina Ireland is going to the actual writer. Jeez! What a joke! It's like what Steven Spielberg does these days. Puts his name as the Executive Producer in the opening credits, but had minimal input in the movie. Of course, this 10-issue arc probably won't have any of Peter Parker's personal life or love interest in this arc. I'm glad you review these comics in your videos so I don't have to read them. I wouldn't waste my money on this garbage. Spider-Man isn't Star Wars, but who knows there could be a crossover with "The Acolyte" and Spider-Man in one of these upcoming issues. WWWHHHOOOPPPEEE!! TBH, I always wanted Spider-Man to meet Luke Skywalker, but I guess we'll get Rey Skywalker instead. Can't wait. It's increasingly harder and harder to keep from checking out on "ASM". The second animated movie "Across the Spiderverse" was extremely successful, but Marvel/Sony had to deconstruct and humiliate Peter B. Parker, and race swap Jessica Drew/SpiderWoman making her 8-month pregnant riding on a motorcycle and telling people what to do. The movie also had to push the message of transgender rights. My question is where's the 616 Spider-Man in these movies? Does he make a cameo with the other 200 Multiverse Spider-People? Can Miles Morales do a stand-alone movie where the story arc only includes him? Why does his girlfriend have to be named Gwen Stacy? Why not Jen Casey? He's a cheap knockoff who usually fights the same villains as Peter Parker. Miles Morales isn't worth my time. Who knows what Justina Ireland will do to the Spider-Man Legacy. Sometimes I wonder if Peter Parker/Spider-Man has a legacy anymore. 3 generations of this comic to be ruined in this last generation. Spidey's 62nd anniversary is coming up next month, but why commemorate or celebrate it when Marvel has completely and utterly ruined his character. Option 2: Pull a DC crisis and reboot the entire universe. Wipe the slate clean and bring everyone back to square one. It'll be messy, and it'll leaves every character up for tampering and alterings, but these writers have retconned so many things that it's the only merciful thing to do.
Option 3: Split the timeline. Release a new brand of books that's an alternate timeline set after One More Day, where Spider Man didnt accept the deal with Mephisto. Bring all the characters back to that point in time, to before they were all butchered. This will undo all the terrible retcons, erase all terrible plots and allow the characters a chance to have better stories with a new writing team.
They can still keep the current runs but rename this universe Earth 717 or 626 or something similar. This way, Marvel can keep pandering to "Modern Audiences" while the rest of us can enjoy stories that appeal to us, with characters who are given the respect they deserve.

I think it was perfectly fine when it was just Spider-Man and spider woman in the 616 the rest should be in their own thing because it starts to make it feel so cluttered and almost cheapens Spider-Man of that world

Another great critical review. It can't be said enough how terrible this run has been. Joe Kelly is taking over "ASM". I'm not impressed or optimistic. He's the writer who wrote Pete to say MJ is like a sister to him. Plus as other commenters have rightfully pointed out, Kelly was one of the "OMD/BND" writers with Dan Slott. Who knows what more irreparable damage Kelly will do to "ASM"? However, as a SpiderCat fan, if he decides to have Peter and Felicia get back together and marry, be the power couple they should be, have kids, and finally Peter becomes a successful scientist, even using Oscorp. continuing the Zeb Wells arc that Norman Osborn is signing over his industries to Peter, I'm all for it.
I think that was a lost opportunity when Peter got back his body from Doc Ock after the "Superior Spider-man" storyline. Peter should have become successful back then. Not in the same way as Tony Stark, but a lesser successful version. Isn't it about time Peter can pay his rent? I've accepted Peter and MJ will never get back together in "ASM", that's why we have "USM". It's 17 years now since the marriage was dissolved, and too much time has passed. Almost a generation hasn't seen them together except for a short time during the Nick Spencer run. I think that "ship has sailed", and it's time to move on to a new love interest for Peter Parker/Spider-Man. I'd be open to having Mockingbird come back, Spider-Gwen from the multiverse, or a new character who is a superhero to be with Spidey. However, definitely not Ms. Marvel.
I hope Hickman keeps "USM" going in the right direction and doesn't leave "USM" too soon. Kelly won't put MJ back with Peter, and who will Kelly have as Peter's next love interest? Too many unknowns to think anything good is going to come in "ASM" in the next run/volume. Keep up the great work. I appreciate how you're trying to be creative in your videos. Cheers.

it feels like even though this book is for teens to adults they really dont like romance nor any sort of character building. its just so braindead with boring action thats just their to fill up pages and since Kelly is apart of the BND crew it just feels like things won't improve at all. asm at most times feels like a kids book and thats just so wrong on so many levels.

4:14 Admittedly in the original symbiote storyline (in the comics) it didn't affect Peter Parker's personality (it just really wanted to stay with him forever, and it's more accurate to say Peter corrupted the symbiote), and that aspect (and several other aspects common in Spider-Man adaptations like Green Goblin split personality, Dr. Connors being Peter’s school teacher/mentor, Otto Octavius being Peter’s mentor, Eddie Brock being a rival coworker, Eddie Brock taking incriminating pictures of Spider-Man, John Jameson bringing the symbiote to Earth, Dr. Connors being the person who discovers that the symbiote is alive, The Vulture having a vendetta against Norman Osborn (or just being wronged by someone very wealthy), Norman Osborn being in league with the Kingpin (or the show’s Kingpin equivalent), Spider-Man teaming up with alternate universe versions of himself) originated from the 90s series, and making a symbiote storyline that's an adaptation of the comics and not the 90s series would be extremely subversive.

I just wanted to add one more comment about the Joe Kelly rumor about his future tenure as the "ASM" writer. My main concern is every new writer will take "ASM" in a new direction. No commitment to continuity. What "ASM" needs is a writer who's committed to writing "AsM" for 5 years or at least 3 years. This way there is a direction for the comic. In the old days, writers came and went in the comic, but the storyline was similar between the writers. Today, writers retcon the previous writer's storyline and take the book into a completely new storyline. This was the case when Zeb Wells retconned everything Nick Spencer did in the previous volume. Is this the future of "ASM"? Will Joe Kelly retcon the Zeb Wells storyline? Kelly will establish a new storyline for 18 months, and then the next writer retcons Kelly's storyline. The new writer starts Peter Parker in another storyline for a couple of years only to be retconned again when the next writer comes on board to write "ASM". This isn't a good business strategy from the Editorial Staff at Marvel.
However, they've been a bunch of buffoons since "OMD/BND", and that includes writer Joe Kelly. What a disaster this is. I know Dok likes Joe Kelly, but as a writer for "ASM", he;'s abysmal. Now under his tenure on "ASM", the comic is going to be funny. Isn't it funny in a bad way already? Jeez! What a joke! I'm done following this garbage. Why get invested in this comic when you know whatever storyline runs for 1 year to two is only going to be retconned by a new writer who BTW will reboot the comic with a new volume and a new # 1 issue. WHHHOOOOPPPEEE!!!
I think that too is a major difference of today from the older asm comics. The series actually continued even if they swapped out writers without ever doing a reboot (save for the late 90s/2000s) but then now it’s like any excuse to reboot the series and do another issue 1 purely for sales is their top priority since the books on their own don’t sell. One thing I like about the spawn comic series is Todd (even tho he doesn’t write them anymore) refuses to reboot the series or even go back to issue one!

Hey MNStash, I hope all is well this week. I keep forgetting to review the "Spider-Man Unlimited (SU") comic. Spoiler alert. This comic is supposed to be in the same continuity as "ASM". I reviewed up to issue # 42. Issue # 43 was released last week on 6/25, but isn't on any website yet. In this comic, I think the overall storyline in SU is trash like "ASM". Even though I like the new character Linda Locke/Webhead for Peter Parker/Spider-Man, they had to make her non-binary because she didn't want a name expressing her gender, and I know Marvel won't put these two together in that book. They always find a way to ruin Peter Parker's personal life. I'd like to see Spidey with The Black Cat since I'm a SpiderCat fan, but this new character, Mockingbird, or even Firestar would make a great girlfriend for Peter. It's time to move on from MJ, as Zeb Wells has ruined MJ and Peter's relationship, and I don't think Joe Kelly will bring them back together when he takes over "ASM". I'm open to Peter having a superheroine girlfriend who also compliments him. This new character could work if done correctly. Have you read this comic? We might have touched upon this book months ago, but it might have only been in passing. It isn't easy to keep up with these alternate Spider-Man comics because you'd think the book might have been canceled. "SU" is made by Infinity Comics. Let me know your thoughts. There's no long-term commitment to continuity or anything positive for that matter. The comic is destined for mediocrity or worse. It's a shame. Well, a new announcement from Marvel. Joe Kelly will be taking over "ASM" in the fall, and his 1st story arc is going to be 8 Deaths of Spider-Man a 10-issue Arc. The other writer will be Justina Ireland who wrote the "Blood Hunt" event/arc and wrote the Star Wars Books relating to the High Republic. Also, the book will have Ed McGuinness and Gleb Melnikov. Ireland is another DEI hire, woke, SJW, who talks about misogyny and racism and is another talentless hack. Her blood hunt event is awful. This is being done because there hasn't been as much hype regarding Joe Kelly taking over "ASM" Why would there be, he's one of the buffoons who wrote "BND" back in 2007. Why would I get excited about Kelly taking over the writing?
This sounds like a disaster to me. A writer who wrote "Star Wars High Republic" books no one bought or wanted to read. As some of the other commenters have already pointed out on other TH-cam channels, this is a "Trojan Horse" where Kelly is just putting his name on the comic and Justina Ireland is going to the actual writer. I know Miles Morales's books were selling a year or two ago, but his books usually start strong, then by issue # 20 or so the sales drop significantly and that's with selling the book at $1 cheaper than the other Marvel comic titles.
I know the "Spiderverse" movies are a success, but I don't know why. The second animated movie "Across the Spiderverse" was extremely successful, but Marvel/Sony had to deconstruct and humiliate Peter B. Parker, and race swap Jessica Drew/SpiderWoman making her 8-month pregnant riding on a motorcycle and telling people what to do. The movie also had to push the message of transgender rights. My question is where's the 616 Spider-Man in these movies? Does he make a cameo with the other 200 Multiverse Spider-People? Can Miles Morales do a stand-alone movie where the story arc only includes him? Why does his girlfriend have to be named Gwen Stacy? Why not Jen Casey? He's a cheap knockoff who usually fights the same villains as Peter Parker. Miles Morales isn't worth my time.
Who knows what Justina Ireland will do to the Spider-Man Legacy. Sometimes I wonder if Peter Parker/Spider-Man has a legacy anymore. 3 generations of this comic to be ruined in this last generation. Spidey's 62nd anniversary is coming up next month, but why commemorate or celebrate it when Marvel has completely and utterly ruined his character. I feel sorry for your generation because in my day DC and Marvel published comics worth buying, collecting, and most of all reading. Not anymore. The good news is there will be more and more independent comics and there's still Manga to read and follow. Cheers.
