    Thanks for the review! We are looking at the HD30S from SMTAV to add to our existing PTZ Optics cameras.
    To get some more height for your camera, you can take some 2 or 3 inch black ABS pipe from the hardware store. Get 2 matching end caps (they come flat on the end). Drill holes in the center of each end cap, JB Weld a 1/4 nut on the inside of one and a 1/4 bolt on the other. This gives you an extension you can add to your tripod. Or if you omit the bottom cap, you can just strap the pipe to a convenient surface back in the console area.
    On a related thought. We have found that those watching online, really enjoy seeing the audience, so I try to include shots like that. We even added a cheap fixed camera (somewhat wide angle) at about 4 ft high and pointed a give a view of the platform and audience.

      @@RevisionMedia for a church, I'm the volunteer tech coordinator, before Mar. 2020 we weren't regularly videoing or live streaming services, then pressed our Canon Vixia HF R400 into live streaming. It's served us well but it's not the best in low light and has no remote function. Our sanctuary seats about 200, the camera needs to be quite high up to get overtop of the congregation especially when they stand during worship, so I have been considering a PTZ camera mounted on the back wall behind the sound desk or from the ceiling. We resource well in other areas so the price of a PTZ Optics is fine, but if the SMTAV is basically a rebadge I can't ignore that.

    Thanks so much for the comparison. Our church is slowly moving towards ptz cameras, replacing a newer model Sony handycam and an older Canon Vixia. I was worried the picture wouldn't be as good in low light on the ptz's, but this is noticeably better quality. Obviously it's more than just the size of the sensor that makes the difference. I don't know how noisy the picture is in person, but for TH-cam it looks great. Very impressed.

    • @RevisionMedia
      @RevisionMedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. I do see a little noise in person but I don’t have the proper lighting scenario. We need to invest in some lighting in order to make the most of this camera.

      @@RevisionMedia Our church was built in the early 1900s and we're very cautious to add lots of video gear that would take away from the ambience, so lighting will always be bit of an issue for us. I know we should probably go ptz, but don't want to cash out $5000+ for a comparable picture. After watching your video I'm more optimistic. Thanks again

    • @RevisionMedia

      I haven’t tried it through something like team viewer. I imagine it wouldn’t be a problem since you can access the camera by entering its IP address in a computers internet browser that is on the same network. Theoretically, you could also perform this same function using a VPN software or something of the sort.

      I’m not 100% sure about that camera model. I know that a lot of people use different camera types and are able to color correct each camera and get them to match. Some of that is done through software processing. I like to just use the standard camera settings and adjust them in manual settings. Honestly, there is a difference in the camera coloring but can be managed. There are so many aspects that go into matching the color though. I.E. lighting, white balance, color correcting with a vector scope, and exposure just to name a few. I’m working on ours still and plan to have a video out for it! It’s definitely possible. I’m willing to put in the work to save a bit of money. Of course, the best option would be to get all the same cameras.

Also try lowering ISO on your Canon... (it will brighten your footage)..... play with the settings there ;). My honest oppinion is that the SMTAV has better lightening and exposure, but lower sharpness (from what i saw in the video)... check min 6:10 vs min 6:45... At our church we use a Canon XHG1 and a GoPro hero8 w MediaMode... and sometimes we have someone with some Panasonic mirrorless cams comming to help us out (GH4 and GH5). All the best and God Bless.

    The ptz camera still has a ton of noise. The image is crawling on the chair backs and the wood back wall. I have a feeling they use a much smaller sensor than ptz optics and then push the iso way up. Although I'm sure it's more than good enough in a worship situation.
    It is definitely better than the canon, but that isn't saying much as the hf lineup has never been good indoors.
    I'd be interested to see a head to head between the ptz optics and the cheap one.

    SMTAV supports NDI, but you must by a $300 license from the company. Not sure if it is worth it. May try just using rstp and see if that works, or just go SDI.

    • @RevisionMedia
      @RevisionMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info! I do think I’ll just stick with SDI. That’s most likely $300 per device?

    • @DonHearth
      @DonHearth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, per device. They are currently having a "sale" where it is $250 per camera. So, if you want NDI, now is probably the time to do it. As mentioned, I decided to stick with an SDI connection for the reliability factor.

    • @RevisionMedia
      @RevisionMedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DonHearth I’ll probably just stick to that as well. Plus there is a bit more latency with NDI that I can do without. 😂

    • @TorquilMcLeod
      @TorquilMcLeod 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DonHearth have you tested rstp yet? I've been thinking about NDI too as I'm already using it to send lyrics and overlay slides from the slides computer to the streaming computer, but we really don't need it as I could run HDMI to the camera, it just might be nice to have network video.

    • @DonHearth
      @DonHearth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TorquilMcLeod Yes, it works great (of course, I was using a gigabit switch over a private network designed specifically for the video). There is a 500 to 750 millisecond delay using rstp, which did not make it practical for my usage. I needed the reliability of SDI, knowing that once the cables were run, they were going to "just work". In retrospect, I am glad that I went this direction.
      I have been using three of these cameras for a couple of weeks now (using VMIX) streaming my church's service. So far, no real complaints. They handle low-light situations well. I need to do some color correction, due to our auditorium's poor lighting. I have been using an IP camera joystick to control the cameras, and that is working great too, but it is up to 5 button presses to change a camera's position. I am going to be adding a stream deck to my setup next week, so I can move each camera to a desired location with one button press. I have seen others do this on TH-cam with the PTZOptic cameras, so I am hoping these work as easily.

      I feel like the Canon is definitely close to being better. Getting the color/ white balance dialed in has been the hardest part of using this camera. I’m sure it’s also partially due to the fact that I have the camera stationed about 50 ft. away from the stage.
