    Update Edit: TheCod3r released a new video in which he said that he never claimed he had gotten them bad out of the box. This is what I was talking about with the media being a business. His full statement on those articles is here th-cam.com/video/I9HlDd5Wzlk/w-d-xo.html
    I didn't mean to scare anyone I am sorry if I did I just wanted to make a video talking about this. Basically this issue is the most likely to happen if the PS5 is dropped vertically thats .If you leave your PS5 in a vertical position its a very small chance of it happening but if you want real peace of mind just put it down horizontally.

SET YOUR PS5 HORIZONTALLY IT ALSO HELPS KEEP DUST OUT!!! I think I've had a problem a long time ago. I've had a ps5 vertical problem that was purely dust related. The power supply actually has vents that point directly upwards, and since dust falls down, it will actually get inside the power supply and rest on top of it. And once that happens, after about 15 minutes of playtime, the ps5 completely shuts off because the power supply overheats dangerously. It was fixed after a deep cleaning by myself. I don't believe in any liquid metal issues currently because I don't know much about it, but the ps5 being vertical is just a design flaw overall for what I just said with my experience. I'd still recommend overall to play in a horizontal stance just to play it safe in case there are anymore issues

    Ps5 is designed to go vertical.
    This may happen in rare cases

  • @ThomasMuehler
    @ThomasMuehler ปีที่แล้ว +66

    MY BIGGEST RECOMMENDATION: Don't move your PS5 after you've been gaming for a while (where the Liquid Metal would be hot and runnier). As that is likely when the damage to these consoles occurred. Or during a drop or some kind of jostle that momentarily separated the heatsink from the APU (CPU/GPU) allowing the liquid to leak out. So, if you are going to move your console, make sure it is fully cool before doing so. Or if you are really worried about it just put your PS5 horizontal. But again, don't move it when it is hot. As the same thing could occur. It is also likely due to a defect originally with the system such as too much liquid metal being put on in factory, too much air being trapped inside it, or a drop that hit just right. I wouldn't worry about this. It's click bait and only happening to an exceedingly small amount of people.
    If you think about it most PC's sit vertically (with the CPU top facing you when looking at it like the PS5). Some PC's use this same liquid metal and it is held together the same way with a cooler being mounted to it and they are fine. Meaning the likelihood of this happening is low.
    This is also likely going to be blown way out of proportion. Thinking critically for a minute. This would be covered under warranty. Those who would take it to a repair shop A. would not be under warranty meaning they have had the console for a long time and B. Are going to be the people who are having an issue. The fact that a repair shop rarely sees this means it is an exceedingly rare occurrence. As they are going to be seeing the highest amounts of these failures. I bet this is happening less than 1% of the time.

  • @burninghalls
    @burninghalls ปีที่แล้ว +6

    It should be fine as long as the mounting pressure of the heatsink is good, You will know if its not cause your fan will get really loud. The APU on the PS5 is made by AMD and rated to get up to 100 degrees and still be fine. With the liquid metal it will only leak out if you move your console a lot, maybe this happens to some consoles apon shipping which might lead to some people getting a console dead on arrival. As Billy says in this video the thermal interface material that is used can be pushed out over time as it constantly expands with heat and contracts with cold and when it does so the liquid metal will get thinner as it gets hot and thicker when it cools down and some of it might ooze out over time though it would get caught by whatever barrier Sony added to keep the liquid metal where it is and shouldn't get on the motherboard.
    Sony went above and beyond on cooling, the only way you could get better cooling in a console is if it had a liquid cooled loop like we have on PC, most likely they would use the setup called an All in One. These consist of two tubes going from a heatsink and pump to a radiator and somewhere it would connect to fans that come with it and the power supply. The only problem with this is that it would be more costly and it's another point of failure, most loops use fluid that isn't conductive though after a while as the fluid goes around the loop it does go by the radiator and CPU/APU/GPU block so eventually it will gather bits of that metal, mostly copper or aluminium. Though I think in the future consoles will go to this as the current consoles already contain heap pipes (Which contain a fluid already that helps transfer heat off processors and lead it over to heatsinks) as well as fans and there is always some thermal interface material like liquid metal or thermal paste, In the past they used thermal glue on the OG Xbox and on the PS3 under its CPU and GPU heat spreader (Which is a metal cap that is soldered or glued onto the top of your processor, with some form of thermal paste in between it) Then on top of that you put more thermal paste so it can contact your heatsink or other block of metal that send heat onwards to a fan and then the fan gets the heat out of the system.
    Sony might do recalls on batches of PS5 consoles that had more liquid metal on them than others, they may also revise their consoles with a better means of keeping the liquid metal in place and in the future I bet we will see a PS5 slim or pro like we did with the others.

  • @sonyx5332
    @sonyx5332 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'll copy & paste what I left in his video regarding the issue.
    This is likely due to a few reasons:
    1) improper handling of the console during shipping and/or at the shipping warehouse. I work for UPS (inside and on the road). All the packages that arrive at the warehouse are unloaded (by the workers in that section) from a big truck trailer onto a moving belt where it then gets picked up from another moving belt (by the workers in that section) to load inside many of the vans they do each. Depending on the working pace at either section (where it is unloaded from or loaded from), they either get thrown, dropped or carefully unloaded/loaded.
    Many of the workers in the load section (where the packages later gets picked up) are doing 3 to 4 vans each that they have to load on their own. The workers at the unloading section make things worse for those at the load section many times by throwing all the bulk packages together, one after the other, (let's say 5 to 10 or more boxes of PS5) that they have to pick from the moving belt and load inside one of the 3 or 4 vans (while there's more work coming down for the rest of the vans they're doing).
    So because of this or to avoid missing the packages, they get picked up fast and thrown or dropped in the van/nearby instead. The supervisors of such unloading section are the ones to blame for letting this continue to happen and wanting to push the work, over and over.
    2) improper handling of the console by the owner (after going through all that shipping torture).

    It could take years for the liquid metal to leak out or it could happen tomorrow it all depends on the quality of what Sony put to safeguard the liquid metal and how you take care of your console. All I know is if it ever happens to my PS5 and I took good care of it, Sony better take responsibility and repair or even replace my system.

    The guy who first put us on this issue has a big point gravity plays a big factor and we know these companies are VERY!.. cheap with their materials to save money but charge you more. Y’all really don’t think Sony is capable of scamming it’s fans over like this and put a cheap seal to cover that liquid metal? 👀👀👀 Come on wake up these companies are not our friends hints why Sony are coming out with another PS5 version after coming out with one with smaller heat sink. It all adds up. If a console is on long enough and the liquid metal heats up and it is falling it will eventually get through that seal. Either way just put it horizontally to be safe everyone. No matter how ugly it looks. I rather have it look hideous than to spend $500 again.

    As you said yourself, I put mine horizontally just for peace of mind. I barely used my PS5 when vertical, maybe 50 hrs or less over the 9 months or so I forget. It's been stationary and not touched, much less dropped so what you've said makes sense, the risk is next to nothing but certain factors can raise the risk. Some are within your control and some aren't.
    I have an adjustable bookshelf and left room for a vertical PS5. I just had to shift the shelf up since the shelf underneath was super narrow and now I have a shelf for my PS3 and PS4, and another for my PS5. In a way, it's better horizontal now so I don't have to keep reminding myself which way the CD goes XD.

    Make sure the ps5 has enough room for cool clean air to pass through the vents. Clean all the dust around so it doesn't suck it in. You may want to take apart the ps5 and clean it thoroughly every half a year depending on how dirty it is. You do not want then ps5 to overheat is it can potentially cause damage to the seals and that will cause the liquid metal to seep out and short the system

  • @RaskalTheRabbit

    I've had my PS5 vertical + on & running since it launched. It only gets turned off/reset for cleaning or updates. No issues at all. Same for my PS4 Pro before that (Horizontal) & my 2018 built Threadripper 2950x, 64gb 2080TI PC. I sometimes turn off my monitors but even then, very rarely (all VA so no Burn in issues).
    Anyone who has even a modicum of knowledge about electronics/ computers should know this is media hype.
    The same with running your machines all the time. As long as they are built, maintained and stored properly (ie: controlled room) leaving them on its a non-issue, even beneficial in the right circumstances.

Makes sense man. Let's have some top electronic engineers and manufacturers use experimental technology, in a mass produced product meant for the world's civilian population to use, but we don't fully understand how it works. I think some people that are commenting their PS5 died just when this issue was addressed are linking things without really knowing. Any console can die randomly you have to take care of your devices not just leave them there without cleaning them or even worse, moving them around all the time. I have worked with computers and consoles since early the 90s. Dust accumulation is a real thing, power spikes, physical damage anything could have killed your console including this issue if it is happening. I have built computers with liquid metal, it has not happened. I understand the concern but don't connect the dots without evidence. Just as these two gentlemen have explained, it is unlikely but it can happen however without real evidence it should not be a concern for most users so don't panic, lean up your consoles, don't move them arround and if you're scared of the issue place it horizontally (if you have the space) but remember, clean up the dust take good care of it and it will work a long time (I have had mine since lunch, no issues of this kind or overheating)

    I think if you have the early version of a ps5 the chance of something like this happen is so low , because i remember sony changed the heatsink of the new ps5 models or something like that because they were out of the original heatsink maybe this problem is related to that ? Also i have a eary model ps5 i have been using it vertically for 2 years , i have traveled with it via airplane , played many hours with it , it have been force turned of many times because of my house electricity blackout , but its working fine af
