  • Director of Product John Palmer and Product Manager Joe Mazza delve deeper into the Broadkaster line. Starting with its manufacture in Ridgeland, South Carolina, Mazza and Palmer discuss how Broadkaster pulls elements from and fits in with Gretsch’s USA Custom and Brooklyn series drums.
Modeling the new Broadkaster on the vibrant sound of a 1947 kit that Gretsch restored, the new kits give a nod back to original specs while moving forward with a vintage vibe and modern drum set playability. The new Broadkaster gives today’s players the opportunity to get as close to experiencing owning and playing a vintage kit as Gretsch could possibly give them.
Mark Guliana demonstrates and talks about two Broadkaster kits: Satin Copper Lacquer Finish with Standard Hardware (BK-J404V-SCP) and Antique Pearl Nitron Finish Kit with Vintage Hardware (BK-R444). He says that while playing he “felt the articulation and tension of each musical choice; the drums deliver clarity in the busier moments.”

I just got my Broadkasters last week and wow....they sound better every day! I put Remo Coated Ambassador X on the snare and toms and they sing. That Great Gretsch Sound is no joke!

I'm strictly a vintage Ludwig guy, but when it comes to reliving the past in today's modern aspects as to the way drums are made, Gretsch wins hands down.. You guys got the modern /vintage vibe down to the tee..

Funny I’m a singer songwriter and had to just buy some BK shells.(satin cherry)
Way to much heritage intersecting with sound.. Every guitar player needs to have drums for sooo many reasons. Hell I’d think about starting a guitar player campaign if I ran the marketing, haha

Why do they need to reverse engineer a 1947 kit when they have the designs?

I hate the 302 hoop. Cast looks and feels much nicer and looks more high end. The 302 hoop is a blend between the cast and triple flange I suppose but if you use a lot of rim shots you might want to stick with cast or triples for the snare because you will be going through sticks much quicker. Theres a reason why Gretsch ditched the cast hoops from the renown and up, I suspect its more to do with saving money than an improvement over the cast. Sorry Gretsch, I love you guys and my USA, Brooklyn and Renown but these hoops gotta go!

you can order a broadkaster with cast hoops, no problem.

Know it's the lack of damping and they are going for vintage but these, espesially the snare, sound like tin cans

@@JC-sj2pd that's not going to change how they sound at source, they will still be ringing like tin cans

Huh? Vintage would have mufflers and the tone would be deader. The toms and kick sound great and have that nice fat , short attack thud of a vintage drum. The snare is clearly open and he is playing to showcase the drum overtones but I dont feel the player did a good job in illustrating their voices effectively. He played a lot of light, subtle patterns but didnt really do any extended ROCK grooves or fills. The mic'ing was clearly a little lacking, as well. This was more about storytelling and less about a playing demo...

He's an autistic delusional weirdo. They should've got a real groove drummer who isn't afraid to incorporate dynamic volume and give these drums a thrash down too. He doesn't give these drums the versatility and dynamics their probably capable of. Not a good sales move
