SUV Ticket Towing

  • The MMDA were about to tow an SUV for illegal parking, but the driver appeared before the tow truck was connected - so the driver was given the opportunity to show his license for a ticket, instead of being towed.
According to enforcers, the driver refused to show his license and instead forced an escape and then led enforcers on a chase.
Usually when drivers or riders run from the MMDA, it’s because they don’t have a drivers license.
But in this case, the driver complained that he was worried that his brand new SUV would be towed.
If house bill 31 is passed into law, vehicle owners would be required to prove they have a permanent parking space or garage for their vehicle.

The driver of that Montero Sport should have been treated a criminal. The mere fact that he sped away to flee authorities gives enough reason to arrest that driver and search the vehicle. Why? Because the driver tried to flee and put everyone in danger. Reasons of being rattled is not an excuse to do that. Fleeing from authorities is a criminal mindset. I guess there’s still “special treatment” even though the vehicle was towed.

I agree. Failing to stop, dangerous driving, assaulting a government official, I could add many more charges to that. The PNP should have been called in and the driver arrested. I agree with searching the vehicle, running like that indicates something to hide.
The irony here is he was caught because of all the other illegally parked vehicles blocking traffic 😀

You are right though sa una mong sinabi. Discipline. Or rather the lack of discipline in both citizens and enforcers (LGUs in our country). On one hand, may mga pasaway na citizens and on the other, mga pasaway na enforcers na hindi pinapatupad ang batas. Corruption is one of the main issues here kaya may mga pasaway na enforcers. Even as nice as BGC is it falls short of metered parking on roads

Since I shot this video, it looks like an attempt was made to bash them down with a sledge hammer.
Some went down but many are just bent over, still acting as a trip hazard.
Others are still exactly as you saw in this video 🤷
Also a nearby office has now converted a large part of that road into a permanent parking area. According to their sign, they have permission from DPWH 🤷
I don't know if DPWH has the authority to grant parking.. especially when there are MMDA and AFP signs that say "no parking" and it has been actively enforced previously.

@@GadgetAddict It sounds like there's way too many agencies/"authorities" including the barangays who can issue permits for parking, vendors, etc. It's no wonder it's a mess.

Instead of issuing a penalty of 900 pesos, just tow it, take it to a scrap yard with a car shredder and sell it by the kilo. This way the owner helped the government and the community for the very first time. Good riddance.

Many people have suggested that unattended illegally parked vehicles are immediately towed.
But right now, the mmda towing guidelines say to only issue a ticket, if the driver arrives before the tow truck is connected.
And of course there's a certain delay before connecting the tow truck, including the unofficial 5 minute grace period.
