Samsonov is too clean. Just plays straight up table tennis the whole way. No grunting, yelling, or flashiness. Respect.

I'm impressed by Samsonov's perseverance and strength of will.

I feel like Samsonov controlled the pace of the rallies fairly well. He wouldn't be able to keep up with Xu Xin in all out topspin rallies so he purposefully kept the tempo low.

@@user-ko7ol5qg4g Well, i don't really mind throwing the ball to yourself, the rule was created in the first place to prevent players from throwing the ball TO the racket giving it a lot more speed.
In 2012, Vlad 11-1’d Xu, Xu had to come back and show what’s happened since, both are some of the world’s best players and it’s awesome to see this rivalry happen
The only thing changed was the samsonav got older and much slower than he used to be. BTW the match you are talking about took place in 2009. Vladi was 36 then. In this match he is 42.

Хороший матч провел ветеран. Старался не давать китайцу играть в его сильную игру. Как только китаец бил справа,тогда Самсонову было трудно,поэтому чемпион старался играть нестандартно для китайца,в перестрелке им нет равных.
I think in the last set the tactics of Vladi was to play very low, and maybe Xu Xin was trying to play to the corners but not sure.
According to me...aggressiveness dominates the game..because when one is aggressive..it's difficult for the opponent to be accurate in his response to the aggresiveness...it's just my personal point of view..but there are points where a player plays aggresiveness but the opponent accurately responds and it's difficult for the aggresive play to respond since he is not in the position to respond

VS is still solid after so many years but XX is just better, anyone less than a top Chinese player will likely lose to VS. Harimoto Tomokazu may be good but no match for VS.

I watch a lot of tennis, and Samsonov reminds me a lot of Daniil Medvedev. Both are tall, lanky, and have unorthodox styles (I think samsonov is unorthodox, if he isn’t I’m sorry).
The Tactition when Samsonov started playing, Medvedev was still taking a dump in a diaper.
Samsonov plays like Primorac.His style comes from his height and from using a fast blade.
2sets of respect for vlad from xu xin. sry to say, that one of the best players from the 90s have no chance to win against one of the best machines in tabletennis from today! the new rules, sets and balls destroyes tactical table tennis :-(
