  • Trying yet another video editing software so this video took roughly 6 hours from start to finish... But hey, learning is good.
    Here we finally have the frame for the AWD system, you can attach the V2 gearbox and cab for testdrives but I'm working on a stronger V3 gearbox.
    As usual you can find the parts on my thingiverse account:

      Thanks! I've used these shocks: goo.gl/LxKXZA
      The wheelbase is roughly 31 centimeter.

    Where is get all parts?

  • @meowingmono
    @meowingmono 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you design the new (v3) gearbox, can you please ad a cover to the top so that dirt doesn't get into the gearbox and destroy/dirty it
    You can see the gears clearly at 5:52 at it looks as if dirt with get in easily

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ 5:52 is the center differential, it should be fairly covered by whatever you put ontop but I'll look into adjusting the front frame to actually cover that hole completely.
      I plan to make the V3 gearbox somewhat similar to the center diff, so you can screw covers on it to protect it more.

    Would the panhard rod cause the axle to move side to side while the springs move up and down over bumps?

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, a panhard rod will always cause some sideways motion as it moves through it's travel.

    Mr.Crankyface the shock absorbers that I bought are 60mm instead of 50mm. I took some approximate measures and it fits ... but is not 100%. Can you find out the new measures for the linkages? Thanks.

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is there any specific part that doesn't work correctly with the longer shocks?
      The only problem area I can think of would be the panhard rod on the front axle which would need to be a few millimeters longer.

    • @NaCalha
      @NaCalha 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Everything works fine. The linkages must be longer to keep the shock absorbers 90º. I've been trying to get to the right length by trial and error ... but still im not 100%. As you have the correct geometry of all parts in CAD I think can you get this measure easily. I Hope I have managed to explain myself properly. Thank you for your help

    • @NaCalha
      @NaCalha 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As we can see in the photo as the linkage at the top of the photo is too long the pinion ujoint is not parallel to the structure
      drive.google.com/open?id=0BzmqDlmVPwLCRTcxMG9NQXIxcmc

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah yes, I see the problem now. I'm assuming your shocks are 60mm "eye-to-eye" for all my measurements.
      Upper rods need to be 102.2 millimeter eye-to-eye. Lower rods need to be 98.5mm.
      This should leave you with a neutral pinion angle when resting, slightly upwards when flexing outwards and slightly negative when at top position.

    • @NaCalha
      @NaCalha 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, the pinion ujoint is perfectly parallel ;-)

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know a lot of people use and like the Prusa/Wanhao I3, you can for example find the Wanhao Duplicator I3 for as low as 4000SEK @ 3dprima.com.
      In a way they're a good starter printer as well since a lot of people use them and they're wellknown, makes it easier to get help when they start acting up like any machine will do eventually.

      Något förslag på en sida med okej kundservice? Ska precis börja på universitetet, så tyvärr kommer jag troligen inte kunna lägga 4k på en ny hobby på ett bra tag..

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jag har mestadels använt www.3dprima.com/sv/ och 3d-grottan.se/, men beställer mest plast och små reservdelar.
      3d-grottan har jag varit i kontakt med flera gånger och dom är alltid extremt hjälpsamma och snabba, supernöjd med dom.
      3Dprima har vad jag förstår också gott rykte och alltid funkat bra för mig.
      3D skrivare är en sån där hobby som suger lite pengar tyvärr, man förbukar plast, behöver underhålla maskinerna med olja/fett/rengöringar, byta lite reservdelar då och då och så vidare.

    Watching your videos has made me want a 3D printer, but I cant afford much. I live in the US, and I was thinking about getting the Micro3D Printer for $349, but my worries are: Is it big enough to make some of this stuff? Or is there a DIY rig around the same price that I could put together to be able to make these parts? Thanks for any help you could offer! (Here is the build volume for the M3D so you dont have to waste time looking it up, "Build volume Base: 109 by 113mm, at 74mm and above: 91 by 84mm; max height: 116mm")

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whilst the M3D looks like a nice printer, I'd recommend trying to get something that prints at least 20x20x20cm. I checked around a little and I think you should be able to get this in the states: wanhaousa.com/products/duplicator-i3-steel-frame
      It's $50 more but I think you get a much more capable machine with a big community around it and many users of the I3 models. You can also find a lot of upgrade parts you can print yourself on thingiverse for example.
      I have not used it personally so I can only judge by what I've seen others say about it and my own personal opinion about it's mechanical build-up. The first printer I built used very similar mechanics and felt very reliable.

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd say yes and no, there's a lot more parts involved and the AWD system puts a lot more strain on everything but I've tried to make everything as durable as possible!

      Not with the current gearbox, I think I have cracked the casing causing the gears to jump away from eachother rather than transfering the power. It should be able to with the beefier gearbox.

    That's impressive. It can be a good learning tool for schools.
    Which material are you using for it?
    Keep it up!

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Everything on the V3 except the tyres is PLA, I want to test the limits of that material before 'upgrading' to more advanced filaments, partly to let more people print it without having to resort to expensive and exotic filaments.

    • @Looping840
      @Looping840 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep easy acess to the print is a good thing.
      But did you see some biodegradation of PLA?
      Plus additional question : 4 wheel good, but will you try 6 wheel? or 8 wheel? ^^

    • @MrCrankyface
      @MrCrankyface  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well the cab is 2-3 months old and has been scraped on tarmac, exposed to dirt and weather without any visible consequences besides grinding marks from some sliding on tarmac, I think it'll take a lot longer to really see the biodegradation. I'm also unsure how it'll react to grease in the long run but I guess we'll see eventually.
      8x8 will be hard to fit but I have already designed some pieces for a 6x6 and 6x4, with a tandem axle in the rear, still some things to figure out when it comes to suspension but it should work.
      Priority number 1 is gearbox though as the old one can't handle the torque it needs when all 4 wheels suddenly grip instead of spin.

    • @Looping840
      @Looping840 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info on PLA It seems to last longer than what I thought.
      Impressive, take your time, make it good.
