@@zalanpeleskei5641 The Chinese version AKA the WZ305 has access to a proximity fuse shell that triggers within 6 meters of the target. So you do not have to get a direct hit to down the target.
T-55A, IS-3, T-10M, SU-122-54, etc. with fully rotating HMGs are extremely good. For some unknown reason the simple small machineguns on swedish tanks seem to onehit helicopters too for me.
My advice, that some poor sod gave me a few years ago, is simple. "If in doubt, lead your target further." especially when dealing with planes going fast as fuck
sometimes i want the enemy planes to fly towards me by shooting randomly in the sky so they can find me. when they start flying directly towards you then its MUCH easier to shoot them down (especially for SPAAs like ostwind) because you will only have to worry about aiming in one axis.
valid strategy for only 1 plane. more than one or when you are in the front is asking for a bomb drop or and HE shell sent toward you. But i guess you rarely had it happen. i say that because some i had slap some SPAA with HE just shoting at the sources of the shots.

Here are "some" things I did not know before > Click M to open map and then click on the map where ever u think there is an enemy > You can see through your own smoke in thermals > If the gun caliber is bigger than 100 mm then, HE can give consistent kills especially in lowtier. > NEVER EVER BRING TOO MUCH AMMO , refer to war thunder wiki to know more about how much ammo u should carry > [new trick] Shoot at the ammo inside of the barrel to kill Churchill AVRE. if u missed a shot, just turn and run away, he can't shoot u from + 150m > Try to deduce the enemy team's future actions, like if 2 zones captured by enemy, they will try to reach the third zone. > If u take time to kill a light tank, know that u must have been scouted. > Certain maps have "exploitable" regions. > Uptiers and Downtiers are key to success > Sometimes very rarely, they newly researched shell is of lesser penetration. > If no idea where to shoot, try shooting cupola for germany, gunner port for US, barell and tracks or lower front plate for Soviets > Wiggling > FOR GERMAIN MAINS, Always move after shooting a 2 km snipe, Yes, the enemy will attempt to CAS u > You can make ur hit indicator last longer. > Disable grass in tank sight > Thumb rule- if camo white- good for snow maps, if camo mosty yellow/sandy- good for desert, if camo green and very messy- good for dense forest maps. > Engine sounds > Shut off engine in corners if u detect enemy. > have different keys binded to primary and secondary weapons. very useful with dual armament tanks There are many such tricks some less unknown and some nobody knows. I honestly wrote this to remember myself. XD
Caveat for number 2: You can see through your own ENGINE smoke/ESS in thermals. This does not work for launched smoke. Also this counts for ALL engine smoke/ESS.
One more thing to add to this laundry list of things is and i cant stress this enough >Do not spawn camp if you dont have less cap points then the enmy/are still loosing the game
I have a good tip which works more than you'd think it would. If you see an aircraft coming in but not on an angle you want, try and bait them by firing in a different direction or a distant enemy plane. Never take your eye off them and be ready to adjust when they turn right at you. They do it all the time, and it's basically a free kill if they come straight at you. Just be aware of your ammo, fast reloaders like the Wirbelwind are fine but careful with the longer ones. This legit works most times I do it.
you should do an entire guide on the missile radar (or without radar) SPAA's, because knowing when to shoot the different types of missiles is the hardest part when you want to kill jets. even early missiles SPAA's like the ZSU-23-4M4 and even the "technically not SPAA" Shturm-S which can fire an HE-VT ATGM that has a range of 7 kilometers and has thermals and is fast (it acts as an SPAA at 8.7 lol), or talk about the SPAA without radar like the Strela-10M2. there's lot of interesting vehicules with early missiles like this. the Shturm-S is the funny one because no one expects to see an ATGM killing planes at such long ranges, it eats helis alive too and the HE-VT ATGM doesn't trigger on ground targets so you can take a full ammo load of the same ATGM's and still kill tanks/overpressure them.
The belt with SAP-I, APDS, HE-I is just great as well. Works on any target. The amount of times ive killed Leo 1s or shot the barrel out on heavier tanks I meet from the front is too high. though I did once kill a AMX 50 Suribasse from the front due to one shot managing to ricochet behind the tracks and through the side of the hull and hit some ammo.
as SPAA player kinda (i got more fly swatter than heavy metal after all) there are at least two method optimal of aiming for SPAA which primarily depend on the kind of weapon you had. 1. For MG or sprayer is to use an intercept, in which you predict a little bit to the front of where they gonna go and just spray that location. This way you eliminate space variability to trade it with time certainty. This method take is where you use of your gun ability to "guarantee hit" on a space within a time. 2. For auto cannon, is to use tracking, in which you actually track the enemy plane then shot and correct on the go. This don't need much explanation as already shown in the vid. both of these are not mutual and you can ofc use one tactic when appropriate. For high flying bomber i prefer to use the intercept method even using auto cannon, because bomber had a very predictable flight path. In which i only need the timing, to simplify this i just aim at its path and spam it there. so does when when enemy are flying low and close, just track them as usual regardless of weapon type.
Great! That is very useful. Do it for gunners in bombers and how to achieve Unapproachable. I found that the best planes to do it with in order of difficulty, easy to less easy, are N.C.223.3, Ju288 and G4M1 (I don't have money for BV238). Them 20mm are nasty. Turn your smoke on, keep climbing and then you get them kills. Sometimes 4 in a single session.
if you play semi decent SPAA and use strat bomber with decent gun, you can easily get more kill in Sims than using fighter. except if you somehow meet the red baron incarnate
finally! I can have more than 1 competent spaa on my team… as a SPAA player you say it best. Though I think SPAAs in general should avoid being autocannon TDs. They’re almost always too vulnerable to everything, and when focused on ground targets airplanes will creep up. Smart plane players know to not go directly into the battlefield, and instead creep around the map. So when you start looking for planes in the line of sight to the air spawn, they strike from behind. All in all great guide.
The shooting too early part hits so hard when you are playing early radar SPAA. I already got the waiting part down because it is very intuitive for me, and then seeing another Gepard fire as soon as the lead indicator appears is *painful*

If there's multiple ammo types available, I typically used to load up a roughly 70-30 mix of HE and AP; the AP I kept mostly as self-defense against enemy tanks, rather than going Leeroy Jenkins on them
in the roughly 100 games played in my amx dca i have killed 70-80 planes , while only having killed some 15ish tanks , seeing all those tracers in the sky never gets old , the longest distance kill i had was roughly at a kilometer he was dogfighting one of our planes and one of my shots from the bofors actually nailed him and his plane just fell apart , was quite funny too
muscle memory is everything. once you can get close range kills, you will be able to use every AA calibre, after that and much more practice you will hit long range shots.
A good rule of thumb is to fire at planes once you can hear thier engines, unless it is a big slow target like a bomber. make sure to turn UP other player engine sounds to the max and turn DOWN your own in the settings
Something I think it really important for AA, that I don't think you touched on enough, was how to deal with multiple enemy aircraft. Firstly, I like to set up with a building or cliff behind me, or at least a tree. Although trees can be risky as a smart player can 'blind fire' through the canopy, but smart planes are rare! This means when you're engaging one air target, it prevents another plane coming in behind and strafing you. And secondly, keeping tabs on all the enemy aircraft is massively important because they WILL strafe you if they think you're distracted. Fire a burst at one aircraft, then check around for if anyone is coming at you. Fire another burst, look around. Repeat. When the sky is swarming you might barely engage any individual aircraft as you'll need to be constantly switching targets. Blocking your back helps here as it massively cuts down on the volume of sky you need to cover (and means you can traverse quicker to engage any targets that do present themselves). You can also bait aircraft into strafing you (thereby making them much easier targets) by pretending to engage another target. Then, as they turn in to engage you, you rapidly swing round and shoot them down.
Sometimes if I see multiple enemy planes in the sky, I would shoot at the far off one. This usually leads the other one to think I'm tunnel visioning and go straight for me, making for an easy head on shot, just be sure to move and fire at the same time if you're unarmoured when the joust comes.
The tip about shooting at their tracers' last location is interesting. Though, it seems like it is dependant on how fast your bullets go. I've used the german, the Brits, and the french at that Wirbelwind's BR, and I got to say the Ystervark has a faster bullet speed, especially it's son the Bosvark. Otherwise, the AMX-13 DCA is in between but since it is a 40mm bofors, it will practically shred most planes in a single AP shell, when compared to the others, I don't need to pepper them as much as the other SPAAs. I only brought AP shells because I want to lead less and I have a better time dealing with ground
one thing I'd add about only shooting when you know you can hit: IRL the main role of AA is to make it harder for planes to do thier job, so it could be beneficial to the team for you to fire some rounds when you see planes just to give the impression that yes, there is AA around. a CAS plane that thinks there is no AA around will be able to do a more accurate drop then one who's aware that AA is. I wish WT would reward this kind of play by giving SPAA specifically rewards for near misses but... sigh.
Yes exactly, your job as an SPAA is to make enemy CAS' payloads ineffective. Since most pilots spawn and then beeline for a bomb drop, you need to fire at them early and often to either force a miss, or force them to hold onto their payload for another pass
A note for non AA players.. thank your SPAA when they do a good job, playing SPAA is challenging, economically unrewarding, quite frustrating, and a thankless job. so providing positive reinforcement when they do well can help encourage people to play SPAA more instead of as a last/revenge spawn. And as an almost exclusively AA player, when I see someone thank me in chat (Com-wheel ‘thank you!’ Included), be it a friendly plane or tank, I will put full effort into protecting them from getting harassed by aircraft. Honestly quite fun to stick relatively near a good teammate who helped/thanked me and protect/repair them, have had and helped people have some monster games where they kill everyone and I kill everyone trying to revenge bomb them.

As a 4k hrs player, I approve this video. Please stop shooting at air plane 1.5km away even if you have radar. You are not going to hit anything. I'm talking to you Gepard players
The max range the game will allow you to use guns is -4km. Even if you are shooting early, trying to hit anything beyond 4km will usually result in the game despawning a majority, if not all, your shells.
Always lead more than you think If you think you got enough lead, lead more anyways, if its too much it will slowly drift into the right lead amount anyways
I doesn't seem to work for me. I tried a custom arcade match and my shots just didn't work an aircraft had to be 500 m away to get hit. What am i doing wrong
One of the things that irritates me the most about this game is the Gepard players. While I'm waiting in Veak-40. York or other gun SPAA in higher BR until the plane comes closer to kill it by surprise, then of course the Gepard players shoot at 7 kilometers, blocking the option of killing the enemy plane XDD
I wouldn't really ever tell anyone who plays mostly rb to invest in keen vision. In ab it has its uses but in rb it's basically just a dead skill, and most of the time you have something better to invest into.

I've kind of like the stock belts because changing belt to fight a tank when trying to shoot down a aircraft or the other way around usually got me killed.

If you look at the top of your screen when using a tank, you'll find a bunch of numbers. This represents the azimuth which is pretty much the direction. When someone uses the air alert command, a small plane symbol pops up on the azimuth of the enemy's direction. Aside from that the command also tells you how far away the enemy plane is.
Honestly half of being good at anti air is just being experienced In the game. At around 500 hours, you just start to know how fast rounds are and planes are, and your brain just computes the rest
In low tier, I will shoot a plane out of my range until i have about 60 shots left. Often this fools the pilot into believing i am reloading, and try to strafe me only to receive the opposite
can we get the conversions on screen please cause not everyone uses km and I dont like having to convert to my unit that I use in game... I ask because no content creator even flashes the conversion on screen and thats all I really want

I've actually knocked out a number of planes with it before. It's not the best aa, but if you can land a shot It's game over for them, lol.
Every US main needs this. Once you've got a 50 cal slapped on top of you're roof you're effectively AA too

Intercept works well and it's easy to do, some guns become desynchronized during continous fire which helps too

Sometimes if I see multiple enemy planes in the sky, I would shoot at the far off one. This usually leads the other one to think I'm tunnel visioning and go straight for me, making for an easy head on shot, just be sure to move and fire at the same time if you're unarmoured when the joust comes.
The tip about shooting at their tracers' last location is interesting. Though, it seems like it is dependant on how fast your bullets go. I've used the german, the Brits, and the french at that Wirbelwind's BR, and I got to say the Ystervark has a faster bullet speed, especially it's son the Bosvark. Otherwise, the AMX-13 DCA is in between but since it is a 40mm bofors, it will practically shred most planes in a single AP shell, when compared to the others, I don't need to pepper them as much as the other SPAAs.
I only brought AP shells because I want to lead less and I have a better time dealing with ground

one thing I'd add about only shooting when you know you can hit:
IRL the main role of AA is to make it harder for planes to do thier job, so it could be beneficial to the team for you to fire some rounds when you see planes just to give the impression that yes, there is AA around. a CAS plane that thinks there is no AA around will be able to do a more accurate drop then one who's aware that AA is.
I wish WT would reward this kind of play by giving SPAA specifically rewards for near misses but... sigh.
Yes exactly, your job as an SPAA is to make enemy CAS' payloads ineffective. Since most pilots spawn and then beeline for a bomb drop, you need to fire at them early and often to either force a miss, or force them to hold onto their payload for another pass
Wt may wont reward it, but sometimes teammates appreciate the unrewarded work for the team. ( same with flipping a tank back up)
A note for non AA players.. thank your SPAA when they do a good job, playing SPAA is challenging, economically unrewarding, quite frustrating, and a thankless job. so providing positive reinforcement when they do well can help encourage people to play SPAA more instead of as a last/revenge spawn.
And as an almost exclusively AA player, when I see someone thank me in chat (Com-wheel ‘thank you!’ Included), be it a friendly plane or tank, I will put full effort into protecting them from getting harassed by aircraft.
Honestly quite fun to stick relatively near a good teammate who helped/thanked me and protect/repair them, have had and helped people have some monster games where they kill everyone and I kill everyone trying to revenge bomb them.

The max range the game will allow you to use guns is -4km. Even if you are shooting early, trying to hit anything beyond 4km will usually result in the game despawning a majority, if not all, your shells.

I killed 5 planes with the M8 LAC in 2.7 china, while having a uptier, M8 gotta be the best SPAA, and 50 cal being the best AA gun

If you think you got enough lead, lead more anyways, if its too much it will slowly drift into the right lead amount anyways
There are also custom missions that allow you to practice your AA aiming skills.

One of the things that irritates me the most about this game is the Gepard players. While I'm waiting in Veak-40. York or other gun SPAA in higher BR until the plane comes closer to kill it by surprise, then of course the Gepard players shoot at 7 kilometers, blocking the option of killing the enemy plane XDD

I wouldn't really ever tell anyone who plays mostly rb to invest in keen vision. In ab it has its uses but in rb it's basically just a dead skill, and most of the time you have something better to invest into.

Any information on how to read the Air alert?
If you look at the top of your screen when using a tank, you'll find a bunch of numbers. This represents the azimuth which is pretty much the direction. When someone uses the air alert command, a small plane symbol pops up on the azimuth of the enemy's direction. Aside from that the command also tells you how far away the enemy plane is.

Honestly half of being good at anti air is just being experienced In the game. At around 500 hours, you just start to know how fast rounds are and planes are, and your brain just computes the rest

My tip is to get a AA with a radar.
In low tier, I will shoot a plane out of my range until i have about 60 shots left. Often this fools the pilot into believing i am reloading, and try to strafe me only to receive the opposite

I think I need to just buy a new monitor. Not only is mine dirty, but it still uses the old vga connection. I had to buy a dp to vga adapter, lol
can we get the conversions on screen please cause not everyone uses km and I dont like having to convert to my unit that I use in game... I ask because no content creator even flashes the conversion on screen and thats all I really want
