I've recently had an influencer (well known) and a couple of reality TV personalities (yes, I AM that shallow), all blue checked, ask to follow me. I have no content and have never commented on at least 2 of their pages. I figured its some new thing to keep subscribers. Like their social media managers go through and ask to follow everyone all at once. It may not be so obviously a manipulation for someone who has content and is active on the platform.

I've binge watched these videos and honestly, these things are starting to look like interventions with a drug addict. These (mostly) women are absolutely addicted/hooked to the dopamine and the fantasy these scammers are bringing to them...and some of the women can't seem to tear themselves away from the addiction, even when confronted with the truth. I guess it's like an addiction to anything - drugs, food, shopping. It's hard to stop.
