I listen to a conversation with a fake victim and real scammer. The fake victim speaks several different languages. The scammer claimed to be from a country that doesn’t speak English. When the fake victim started speaking that language, the scammer didn’t know what to do. The scammers often make excuses pretending they can’t hear or they will hang up or they would try to divert the question somewhere else. It’s all about manipulation. When they are questioned about the things they claimed, they don’t want to answer. They will say you ask too many questions but at the same time they’re begging for money.
This is part one of someone dealing with a romance scammer who is supposed to be a general.

Even if he did have a huge contract in a foreign country, he'd have to file taxes the following year when tax returns were due and would have an accountant handling it. That was actually quite deep. Don't we all fall in love with figments of our imagination? We think a person is something then get disappointed when we find out the person is not. The person might not be scamming. Could just be the reason normal relationships end.

The person I felt sorry for is Curtis, these scammers have ruined his life and business and no one seems to want to help him, even when he said what had happened to him no one showed him any empathy. As long as people with no common sense give to these scammers, people like Curtis will continue to be the victim.

Like, I know you guys are out alot of money but holy sh!t quit already! Its ruining his life and other victims whose identity is stolen through no fault of their own. They are truly innocent. The victims participating in the scam, i.e. handing over their hard-earned money, they are PARTICIPANTS in the scam.
When you upload your whole life through photos on social media you can expect this to happen. If this has been happening to him for so many years and ruining his business, why keep the IG account open? Maybe he should just have photos of his business and not personal ones modelling.

I feel horrible for Curtis. These scammers not only victimize the women giving them money, they victimize the people whose pictures they steal. I get a lot of random friend requests and messages from guys with similar pickup lines to what 'Shawn' used with Nancy. Difference is, I am a skeptic and seriously doubt anyone starting off a conversation with flowery language and extolling how beautiful I am.
I also pick up on linguistic aberrations. I engage in chats with them to find out why they sent a friend request and how do we know each other. Best one was a guy who said he got a Master's degree from a private middle school, said he attended a college I used to drive by every day and lived on campus (commuter school, that was impossible) and that he was raised in a town near where I lived for many years. I asked which school did he go to in that town, what street did he live on.
In the future, Nancy should 'trust, but verify'. Use google image search or tin eye to look for a potential suitor's images. If they don't have an online presence or are contacting you from a relatively new social media account - RUN.
