pretty sure clan wolf created the elemental battle armour, and the hell horses breed the phenotype of elemental warriors. then they just combined them into the battlefield system that is the elemental.
Sarna confirms. Clan Wolf invented the armour based on Goliath Scorpion diving suits. Hell's Horses won the armour in a trial of possession and mated it with their existing genetically engineered infantry units. Of course the Wolves also won the technology/information to create those infantry units at the same time.
FASA Meeting: Can we start making clan tanks? Only if we make a vehicle clan. I forget which clan (or maybe it was Wolf's Dragoons) that had the hovercraft made to act as battle taxies for a whole point of elementals. I think one of the novels talked about them.
If they ever seriously went with clan tanks I guess they would have made them some kind of transforming tank, in fact very similar to what they have now. Can't remember the name but they look weird.
With all the issues dealing with Robotech, I think it was best that FASA let LAM's just die on the vine. With how gritty Battletech comes off and of all the lost tech, I doubt that many would look to pore resources back into that. Yeah the LAM's are cool in theory but they never really fit the universe properly. Also when you compared their weapons to the more conventional aerotech units they just didn't stack up.
