    I actually see a lot pf parallels between my beloved Taurians and the Wolverines. Free thinking? Check. Socially mobile? Check. Use of proper combined-arms tactics and "Powell Doctrine" total war strategy to end battles quickly on their terms? Check. Total and absolute unwillingness to back down from even vastly superior opponents? Super-ultra-mega double check.

      Yeah they are very much the underdog and they know it but that doesn't slow them down one bit. A periphery house that fights the SLDF and puts up the best fight, damn right I am backing that faction.

    Always been my fav nation faction, underrated and underappreciated. Villianified due to opposing Davion, the 'maim protagonists' of the books. But basically independent space rebels looking to be left alone and fighting tooth and nail for that. I bet Harleys are a hot item in Taurian space.

    I always found it funny that the Taurian Concordat is so paranoid about Davion invasions or modeling when everything I have read concerning House Davion seems to depict their attitude towards the Concordat more along the lines of "Taurian who now?"

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  5 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Davion would probably take territory if the easy opportunity presented itself but yeah largely davion don't care so long as the concordat don't attack them. Meanwhile it keeps stability for the concordat to regularly tell their people that davion may attack any moment and thus they need to be vigilant.

      If you look at the Map in the future timeline most of Taurian systems are now under control of Davion.

      The Concordet by any stretch should be the most prosperous due to the maximum amount of freedom, it’s connection to the free worlds league and its extremely high literacy rate. It’s bullshit knee capping by the writers that the laze faire capitalist nation is so easily beaten. Not organic if we look at history which shows the opposite. This is also why I hate the bullshit Aurigan reach which is a socialist nation that is portrayed as heroic and yet the Concordet is portrayed as evil just because they are patriotic?! This Bernie Bro bullshit “democratic socialism” doesn’t work and history shows it and the only reason it works in this universe is because Harebrained Schemes wanted to appeal to the Give me give me give me demographic. Death to the Capellons, Aurigans and the Davions, and Long Live The Concordet

      @@orionhan2431 On the contrary, during and after the Jihad, the Taurians actually ate quite a bit into Davion space, even re-taking the Pleadies star cluster (which had become Star League territory during the reunification war and annexed by Davion during the Amaris Civil War - and one of the major bones of contention between the Fed Suns and the Concordat). Other than that the border between the Fed Suns and the Concordat has remained pretty constant. The Taurians lost most of their territory not to Davion, but when Gray Monday cut off all the huge area colonized in the 3000s, though, the Taurians maintained control over the Pleadies. By that time Davion had bigger concerns, namely the Kuritans bulldozing a path all the way to New Avalon. The only periphery state Davion ever made any real effort to dominate was the Outworld Alliance.
      The irony of the whole situation is that the Taurians and the Davions are about as ideologically close to one another as you can get, yet their constant paranoia of the Davions drove the Taurians to seek alliance with the one successor state who HAD screwed the Taurians over, and the one state most opposite the Taurian's ideals: the Cappellan Confederation.

    This makes me regret how the HBS PC Battletech game makes th Taurians defacto badguys by having them revive old feuds with the starting region right as the Restoration kicks off. It makes them seem like vultures picking on the rebel faction when they coulda gone against the Directorate and been heroic.

    • @CriticalRocket
      @CriticalRocket  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Well ultimately they realise they have been conned by both Ostergaard and the directorate, and Kamea is counted as a insurgent leader trying to destabilise the region. So the Concordat could be viewed as a faction looking to secure their borders in the west to better prepare for any attacks from Davion in the north. When they learn of course, they immediately withdraw aid so I would say they were too quick to believe the Directorate rather than look into the events further and they were used.

      In my own head canon a coalition of First Taurian Lancers, Banockbuns bandits and several volunteers took back Laconis from the Aurigans, and devastated the forces that attempted to retake it and kept up raids to acquire Union drop ships. From there they would raid Davion Militia marches( though not major and ultimately little more than pin pricks against the far larger Federated Suns.) which provides my group with more access to better mechs.

    Was pleasantly surprised to see this video and very much enjoyed it.
    In MWO my merc unit hails from the Taurian Concordat and was largely funded during start up by the Far Lookers. We have a small roleplay section on our community forum and at least two of our officers studied at the Ecole Militaire.
    I also personally enjoyed the Colonial Marshal story at the start of this video, not least because my character did a chunk of his national service in the marshals and has stories of his own much like that one :)

    • @CriticalRocket

    • @concordetconstabulary219
      @concordetconstabulary219 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Critical Rocket although one thing I gotta ask is how the taurians can afford to have quasi socialist perks like public healthcare, retirement, and minimum wage and yet have such a powerful military. I’m not saying it’s impossible and yes they do rely primarily on militia forces for the outer regions while focusing the TDF on the Davion and Capellan borders but you’d figure they’d be almost anarcho capitalist all things considered or at the very least minarchists but they operate more like.....well West Virginia and Philippines.
      TLDR how do they pay for public services and military?
