There's a reason you are a 10 time world champion elk caller. Awesome tutorial, thank you very much! P.S. LOVE the Elk101 online course. Thanks for all you do
I've often wondered how to make that guttural-growling sound during a bugle. Great video !! Thanks a million for putting these tutorials together. With the combination of the Rocky Mtn Bully Bull extreme elk grunt tube your diaphragms and more practice I'll have it down before long. Thanks again Corey... Look forward to your next Destination Elk journey to my home state of Oregon. These Roosevelt's are tough to fill a tag on. But you'll tag out next time..
Thanks Corey, awesome video as usual! I was having trouble hitting the high note but a buddy of mine told me that I should trim the edges off a little bit on either side because of my narrow palette- works perfectly now.
Corey, thanks. When I was younger I felt I had a pretty good ability to use a diaphragm call to call in elk, but recently it has been a challenge for me to make crisp whistle tones, and to chuckle... Though I call in elk, I didn't feel the tones and notes I was using were clean. I have been re-watching your video series and I hope I am retraining my mouth to make the right sounds. Wish me luck this weekend...and the same to you guys. Say hello to you dad for me. Lance - Top of Utah Archery, LLC #topofutaharchery
6:45 That huge bee or spider crawling all the way up the front of your shirt up and over your right shoulder!!! Sorry, I'm here to learn elk call. Man that was a huge one! OMG. Elk call, elk call, elk call...
Corey, your "climbing the stairs" sounds more linear like a gradual progression. When I bugle it just seems to jump octaves in clear steps and I have a very hard time consistently hitting that high note (it happens on accident and I'm not sure why). Blowing harder doesn't help so I'm suspecting its a tongue pressure issue but I haven't figured out what's wrong. Any tips?
hey, he didn’t respond so i have a good tip, that is if your still learning, your tongue pressure is basically the climbing of the stairs, start with your tongue lower on the latex then slowly apply more tongue pressure as you want a higher note, you want the pitch to slide between high and low, so your tongue should start with a lower placement, gradually raise it, then quickly drop the pressure, applying the slightly longer grrrrr sound at the beginning than the end.
Got to practice tongue pressure, tone, and technique first. Most def are not going to get it right away from just watching a video. One thing this video does not go into is proper placement in the mouth.
@@MegaPerson012345 actually I found that the RM reeds I've had do not work for me, I'm sure there are some in their line that would, but the three Phelps reeds I've tried work perfectly for me with full control. Probably shape or latex stretch issues.
If you want to make a realistic bugle you should use a tube. Practice without the tube till you are able to hit and hold the high note. Tone first. I wouldnt even work on growling until you can start low and go high easily. Then put it all together. It is like playing an instrument.
Evan, for the best activation of your sounds and the highest quality sounds, I'd recommend the Bully Bull Extreme tube: www.elk101store.com/rocky-mountain-bully-bull-extreme-elk-grunt-tube
Awesome video great advice on how to Bugle... Best of all the Beatle crawling around on you and you didn't even flinch during your calling demonstration LOl.
Any recommendations for someone with no top teeth? I have an ill fitting denture plate that has been a pain for two years now. Can't use a mouth piece due to that. What other types of calls/bugles are there for elk? Thanks.
The only way I can make any sound is if I put the latex on my bottom lip but still in my mouth. Other than that I can't get sound or I gag. I guess everyone has their own tricks or ways
I would try the diaphragm he is recommending for beginners. You may need to trim the tape to fit, but dont over trim or you will not get a good seal. Getting it in your mouth correctly will help with gag.
I spent the whole car ride to the outdoor gun range (since the actual gun range won't let me in since I'm not a member/ covid) practicing this and now my tongue hurts...
I have been a RMEF member since 2016, and i just bought my first bugle tube and a few reeds, these vids really help, thank you.
Anyone see that crazy big bug climb over his right shoulder around the 7m mark?
CJ Shelton 7:19 he flicks it off
it's a bumblebee
@@stethoscanomaly YES
Called that big bug right in.
That sucker had his balls dragging. 😅
Great video! Thanks!
The bug on the left shoulder @ 6:54 was a nice touch. 🤣

Good job 👍 .
Got the elk 101 rocky mountain diaphragm kit today and already feel I could call in an elk
6:45 That huge bee or spider crawling all the way up the front of your shirt up and over your right shoulder!!!
Sorry, I'm here to learn elk call.
Man that was a huge one! OMG.
Elk call, elk call, elk call...
OMG Goooooooooood it comes back around and you softly brushed it off like the confident Man you are!!
Woawwww
Elk call elk call elk call
That’s amazing. I just can’t figure out how to use the mount reed.
This video has helped me out so much many people have gave me advice but this just made it happen
Amazing video man. Really. It's changed the way I hunt
sweet. I'm a pro already. Thanks
Mrs. Jacobsen is a lucky gal.
Anybody else see the bee crawl up his shirt and then he flicked it off his neck
Sure wish I could get the growl sound down. Is it absolutely necessary or can I still be a productive callee with out it?
im going on my first bow hunt in october
Great information best on the internet
Anybody see the bug on him
A seasoned pro, he doesn’t swat at it or anything lol
Thank you
Great instruction
Question, could a regular bugle soda straw be used in the same way?
Corey, is the growl on an inhale or exhale? because the diaphragm calling is coming from an inhale, it seems I can only growl on an exhale..
Im having a hard time getting that Growl figured out
Absolutely great series of videos. Any possibility of showing the difference between a location bugle and a challenge bugle?
Excellent video Corey thank you!
Are all diaphragm created equal?
My problem seems to be diaphragm placement and long capacity
What is the difference between the wapiti wacker and bully bull extreme? Wanting to buy one of the two
Lmao yall worried bout the bug and sound be practicing bugles. We are not the same . No bug will affect a man like Corey

He didnt reply likely because he already explained in the video.

So cool
Do you have to have the horn thingy, or can you just use the diaphragm?

@Elk101com Do you have any advice on bugle tubes? There are several options on buglingbull.com and as a novice I'm unsure of the differences. Thanks!

Get you a good hunting partner/caller!
Thank you!!!
at 6 min and 43 seconds, There is a giant bug that crawls on this dude, and he is UnFazed...
Where do you get that shirt?
What kind of diaphragm call do you use
I just sound like an elephant.
Real elk bugles
I wanna go to North America right now
Yup
Been trying the growel and I cannot get it. I've been trying for days. Frustrating
I went to the dreaded dentist recently. Damn! it changed things for me and not in a good way. Now I’m relearning. Anybody else have that problem??
Who saw the bee on him lol
The only way I can make any sound is if I put the latex on my bottom lip but still in my mouth. Other than that I can't get sound or I gag. I guess everyone has their own tricks or ways
Some people have a super hard to get over gag reflex, unfortunately. I have one. Sometimes I can mitigate it, but super tough.

Any one see the big
Mine are way too high pitched... I think
Anyone else see the massive bug😂
Make sure you turn down your volume when he starts screaming
I wish there was an app that could record my calls listen and correct them
There is an app that does that. The “Elk Nut” app by Got Game Tech
I spent the whole car ride to the outdoor gun range (since the actual gun range won't let me in since I'm not a member/ covid) practicing this and now my tongue hurts...
I won't to go hunting with you
