    As for set ups i had bulls bugling across the river and didnt think they would cross 250 yards of open river Bank where they were wasnt open to hunt
    So like a true elkaholic i called for practice and hear their reaction when i looked up and a 5x5 was 40 yards walking right at me
    Then he stopped because he didnt see elk and got nervous and returned to his side ofnthe river

    I set up my first tree stand next to a wallow. I'm going to be hunting out of it this labor day weekend 2023. I'm just curious as to what people reading this would think would be the best strategy for early season would be for it: 1. No calling 2. only cow calling 3. bugling. Unit 4 North Idaho btw.

      Set up on water early early season, no calling.

      How’d it go?

    • @wapiti128
      @wapiti128 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpearsUnclaimed No elk yet, but I had a whitetail doe and fawn walk under me. The doe b-lined it to a tree I peed under and started eating the pine needles I peed on. I thought, this is strange. Apparently a lot of deer hunters do that to attract deer which I never knew about. 😅

      Additionally, I have another spot I go to with no wallows but I bugled a couple hunters in. They had me going. Adrenalin dump! We talked for about 5 or 10 minutes. We know some of the same people. Very cool guys.

      spent alot of time hunting walos. Thermals change & winds change. Very hard to hunt these. Cameras when I'm not there show a different story. I don't call from walos. It makes him come down wind

    How long to wait on calling sequence before moving on

    • @stalker7892
      @stalker7892 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends. I've spent up to an hour calling a bull in and he did come in. Sometimes they're moving and no talking. Be patient! One tip that might help so that you don't call a hunter in is, if you bugle first and you get a response, use a cow call next. If you get another response, the overwhelming case is that it's not a hunter. Hunters don't usually respond to cow calls.
