I think they just didn't want go past what they did for 2K14's graphics or else they would've peaked, and the PS5 graphics wouldn't have made much of a leap compared to what they did on the previous generation.

Or if you remember 2k14 had virtually no features. It had park, MyGM and MyCareer because all processing power was used on graphics. When they added new features graphics had to be scaled back.

2k14 visually in my mind was the best looking. That's why I manage expectations of 2k21, how great can it be?
It is the best. Especially the jersey fluidity and how it moves with the players, not like in recent ones like they glued on
I can't even imagine how they could topple that 2k14 graphics. Maybe the crowd would get facescan graphics to be more realistic.
What sells these graphics to me is that the players actually look like real people proportion wise, nowadays it looks like you're playing with action figures of the players, i don't know if it has something to so with the simulated focal lenght or the player models or a combination of both but this game had that aspect 100% nailed

Comparing nba2k14 with PS5 nba2k21 is night and day, perhaps even bigger than last gen. The problem is still animations. Once they will improve that it will be a real step up.

When I seen that ray Allen from NBA 2k14 when it came out I thought to myself this is as real as it gets
NBA 2k14 was the first game I got for PS4. I loved it, spent hours playing the game and got completely immersed in mycareer. To this day 2k14 is my favorite on the current gen. It’s my one of my favorite 2ks ever, behind only 2k11

2k14 was hands down my fav 2k of all time. I still play it. I love every ounce of the game. The graphics, the gameplay, the soundtrack, the animations, the mycareer story. In my eyes, it was the perfect game. If every 2k from here on out was a rerelease of 2k14 I’d buy it every year.

NBA 2K3 was the first 2K with sweat though. I remember buying that game after reading about how it would actually use lighting to mimic sweat on the players as the game went along.
It's sad to this very day 2k14 has the best graphics I hope 2k21 looks that good on next gen especially on the series X
After play nba2k14 next I satisfied with their graphics on that game even though the player face models was in perfect still I was happy of the lighting of the game and on the court

Damn I confused 2k14 with a real picture of LeBron. They’re graphics were amazing back then.
I just hope that in this game they try to make most players just as detailed and realistic as 2k14 made Bron, Kobe, and KD to look like. Cause I remember Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving looked sus while D.Rose and Chris Paul looked like real people.
One thing I think you are forgetting is that the leap in technology from generation is becoming less and less. The leap from n64 and PS1 to GameCube and PS2 is bigger than the leap from PS2 to PS3 which is bigger than the leap from PS3 to PS4. So it makes sense that the leap from PS4 to PS5 will be even less.
If they bring out 50's- 90's basketball teams and rule changes I would look forward for the coming UE5 reveal.
Not only the graphics but also the symmetry of the body and head that the 2k14 did better
To be fair, the look of the body models is drastically better now than at the start of the generation, also animations look more fluid

I'm not a programmer or something, but could it be, that the 2k games after 2k14 got a graphic downgrade, because they coulndt manage/expand the amount of game modes or in-game content , if the graphics were the same?! And that's maybe why 2k14 , hadn't many game modes ?!

the one thing i really hope they improve is those moments where the players are like moving their heads and the eyes are looking off to the side completely unnaturally. there certain small things like that that really break immersion for me.

If you watched the ps5 gameplay, the commentator said that they can now make alot of high detailed models run in real time so what if 2k is now able to make extremely life like crowds.

Tbh. I'm more worried about the gameplay. 2k20 is the first game I just put down and went back because the gameplay felt so dull and easy. Thankfully your 2k16 review reminded me how great it was so I went back to that this year.

I remember that I'm so excited to play NBA 2k14 in my PC at that time.
Shortly after I was disappointed because there were no different with NBA 2K13
it's like the 2K only make a roster update & new menu design for the PC & last gen console (PS3 etc.)
2K14 was a much smaller game than later games, graphics had to take a hit for them to flesh out other areas of the game, but honestly player models, face renders, textures on uniforms, accessories, and scanned sneakers are 10x better than what we had in 2K14. The game just simply has better lighting, graphically the lighting has gotten progressively worse and it’s very noticeable, but it improved in almost every other area. Just goes to show how important lighting is.
Lmao quarantine Bron! My two cents though, 2K's only going to focus on graphics improvement so much, they know they're already good enough. Somehow they're going to find more ways to make use of the next-gen capabilities to add unnecessary features that'll make them money, instead.

We just want better lighting and gameplay. The PS5 has double the power of current consoles. Meaning theres a lot more room to focus on small details. Like the crowd. And honestly if It's just 2k14 with a graphical overhaul I wouldn't care.

Based on last trends off the previous 2k's and my knowledge of how computer/console performance works than i'm gonna go ahead and speculate on what we can expect of the NextGen 2k's if you remember during the last few 2k's of the 360 era some things graphically took a nose dive then those were highlighted even more by next gen based on this I'm going to assume that skin textures will be coming back due to the over time skin smoothing since 2k18 smoothed and removed realistic skin textures, lighting will be reintroduced, physics based movement aka momentum and better animation packages as well as fixing random x3 movement bug thats been in the game since 2k18
2K14 next gen was very good looking, shame it was only that the good point of the game.
Btw, why don't compare PS4 2K14 with the old gen 2K14 instead of 2K13?
The graphics won’t have as big of a jump this time, the machines are really starting to reach their limits. Just look at the PS5 demo, yeah it looks amazing but it’s not THAT far off from what we have now
2k takes advantage of powerful things like I take advantage of hop steps and post hooks
2k should just hire modders. they’re clearly passionate about what they do. also i think they should completely change the way players are represented. ditch just an attribute system and work in a skill tree system that allows players to upgrade and unlock new skills to their game, ex: you create your player as a high school kid and u pick a skill to be really good at like 3pt shooting, midrange shooting, perimeter defending, interior defending, dribbling, passing, rebounding, slashing, or post scoring and as you progress threw the seasons/park/pro-am as a player you “evolve” and get better. like by the time you’re in your 3rd-6th nba season you should be have reached your prime by “mastering” up to as many skills as possible by that time. the catch would be that your player begins to age which makes it harder and harder as time goes on to progress as a player. they would also get rid of gameplay difficulties for mycareer and it would be a constant difficulty. another thing that would be dope is if you could be in a league with all of your friends ex: you all start in high school and go through college and end up getting drafted to the nba based on performance and then get to play your careers out against each other or on the same team! but back to the constant difficulty thing, this wouldn’t be cheese bc the skill tree would have all players represented accurately and they would actually preform how they do in real like. this would require an obvious overhaul of the current engine that 2k CAN WITHOUT A DOUBT AFFORD to make their game lifetimes better. they also need to pay retired players what they want to get them in the game bc base 2k is missing tons of historic and all time players which makes teams like the 12-13 heat not even worth using. and give us better parks. fuck the neighborhood too, that shit makes the latency so bad sometimes and it’s just annoying walking into stores and stuff. partner with actual clothing brands and hire fashion designers so we can have nice fits for our players. idek man dom just get me in a discord so i can explain all this shit on stream or something so if people like it we can get 2k to hear us lmfao

2K19 and 2K20 to me has the same graphics I feel like they should add more features ya know,Like Adding all the players and no fillups, Have more customizations on CreatePlayer,etc. there is alot of cool features online but what about offline I mean they could add dunk contest and 3pt contest.And I think 2k needs to do this very hard task add all of the yearly rosters from the beginning to the present because it will give more nba fans enjoyment and more to choose from
