- Decided to make a little comparison video between NBA 2K24 and NBA 2K14 now that we are 10 years into this game. NBA 2K14 always comes up as the standard for 2K graphics by fans, especially when it comes to lighting.

Skin texture and Jersey physics have been the major problems in recent years. Player skin almost looks more plasticky or animated and Jersey physics are almost nonexistent m
its like they don't even bother in these new 2ks. 2k14 had wrinkles and more realistic stuff but these new 2ks are just bland

2k14 was perfect for how entering a next gen console should be . Had the most fun in park on that game and the courts visualization to me was the best out of all of them .Was hoping it would be the same way for 2k21 but wasnt even close. 2k has gone down hill since 14
Facts. That was the last 2k that gave me that playing at Rucker park feeling. It was the purest basketball experience, because everything was so simple. Idc about riding a skateboard in a basketball game.

I'm speachless. For a sports game in 2014 it looks unbelievable. Most of the time it looks different but often just as good as the new one. It's especially strange how players lost all detail in their skin which looks like plastic in 24, especially kobe
Not even 2014, the game was released in 2013..
The fact that there are comparisons between games a decade apart says all you need to know. 2k14 was truly ahead of its time, and still outshines newer releases to this day. Just goes to show how great 2k14 was, and how far 2k has fallen off since those days

They could have kept the lighting engine but they would've had to remove the park which is why the graphics went downhill so fast

The park is like the little brother, who has eventually grown up and now requires much more space than 9 years ago
the only reason 2K can't afford turning the park into a separate free pay to play option is because they wouldn't be able to convince people to pay for a new myplayer every year because its really not your player 😅
2k14 literaly had park and so did 2k16 which 3 parks and had best gameplay and graphics
It's crazy how 2k14 on base PS4 looks so good a decade later.
Lighting, skin color, skin texture, muscle definition, and jersey physics all look dramatically better in 2k14 somehow
Not gonna lie but 2k14 is better has better attention to detail the lighting is better the physics look better and even the gameplay looks feels more realistic when you play this shouldn’t even be a conversation this was was made 10 years ago but 2k can’t even compare to its other older games they just copy and paste every year they don’t care about the game

If they kept the graphic overhaul of 2k14 and then upgraded it for 2k24, we would be blown away.
That’s embarrassing for the 2k devs. There shouldn’t even be an argument for a decade old game to look remotely better that todays game.

@@FlyyGawd I think it's cause they don't use actual face scans. They surely are just scanning the players and making a model. There is no way they're actually using images of the players for the textures, cause you're right. They look like play doh
The likenesses have improved that's for sure, but the fact that 2K14 from 10 years ago even compares and is even BETTER in some aspects is crazy (jersey physics, skin texture, and especially the court reflections). 2K24 can look great but it's just too flat and desaturated most of the time.

Overall, the next gen experience (last gen and current) has been underwhelming in many ways, aside from a few trusted developers that delivered on giving us amazing graphics and gameplay. 2k14 came out 10 years ago, and it looks superior to the "next gen" 2k and they've all been underwhelming to say the least, including many other AAA titles. This goes to show that they're very capable (and other major developers) of giving us a great quality game especially visuals, but they're too money hungry and lazy to do so.
I’ll never forget the first time I seen the lebron 2k14 commercial and how blown away I was from the graphics.
Sad they took a lot of steps back with a more powerful game system now is wild 2k14 looks amazing

Never played 2k14, but aside from 2k24 on PS5 having a bit more texture and added small polishing, details (unnecessary like each hair on their heads), 2k14 easily wins in lighting, accurate colors and overall aesthetic. Really shocking.
Back when it wasn’t so arcaded, park was realistic now we hooping in the guardian of the galaxy. Is it just me but the new graphics got everyone looking like dead bodies?
Facts hate all the corny animations when someone greens and was never a fan of mascots i know its a game but i rather it be realistic.

@ArringtonRocksGaming i was talking about in my player mode in park the mascots , the animations after someone hits a three such as a backflip or walking on their hands back down the court fast lol 2k14 just didn't have all that goofy stuff in it, it was just about balling out
@@izekewillis9515 Mascots and green animation (NBA players does this - handstanding or doing flips) been a thing since NBA2k15, the game is still strictly hooping not only that nba2k24 is the most realistic game we had so far especially with pro play animations

2K14 was a time machine.
Also since new gen game intros disappeared and player interviews during the game, really strange
2k14 til this day still holds up. It’s certain things that could’ve used improvements but 2k actually starting going down hill in the graphics department. Players started looking rubbery or cartoony.
In 2k14 the lighting is still the best I I’ve seen in a sports game, and players were bigger (not muscular, just overall taller/bigger) they felt like they carried their own individual weight. Everyone had their own body size, arm size, skin tone.
But Now 2k seems to have gotten lazy. They do improve certain players faces each year, but they also recycle the same 8-10 body type variations. Players either have skinny arms, normal arms or muscular.
body size: slim, standard, buff.
skin tone: 2-3 shades of white, 2-3 shades of lightskin, 2-3 shades of brown skin. And they just mix and match it to every nba player, and then just slap on a photo realistic face and add sweat and tattoos and call it day.
I mean think about it, we’re comparing a last gen launch title game. 2k14 was a day one ps4 game. And graphically it still holds its own against a game that’s out 2 years after PlayStation 5
2k14 next gen by far best 2k of all time especially at that time it was crazy

Considering 2k14 is PS4 it has better graphics, 2k24 being on the PS5 just benefits from better textures, sharpness and animations, but everything else including the realism, foot planting and jerseys look better on 2k14

It's a step back. The skin details in '14 are exceptional! Hair looks better as well. Amongst other things.
2k24 looks more like a refined 2k14.
Also You could still see the computer look in 2k14 while the models in 2k24 look far more realistic

I would say the opposite, what throws me off is the player models in new 2ks the worst offenders is Derrick’s MVP model and Lebron’s model, I do not understand why they stretched out Derricks shoulders so far out, it just looks bizarre and throws me off. They also exaggerated Lebrons upper body so much he looks like a cartoon character.
With 2k14 they only had around 5 player models that they would reuse for different players but they looked realistic, now most have their own but they are so bad 😂
Also the lighting is so bad now, sure you can make an argument that most aren’t as shiny but why is the saturation so damn low, on current gen it looks alright but on next gen all the color is gone

in terms of animation, 2k24 is the best of all.
But graphic-wise, 2k14 & 2k15 is still the best even though the spec of hardware at that time wasn’t as good as now….

The best graphics and lighting are in 14, 15 they changed it all, 16& 17 look near identical, 18-20 and current last gen ports are all the same, current gen 21-24 look identical
While the geometry is higher in 2k24, 2k14 has those true to life textures, Bump Maps and lighting ...
2k14 lighting still seems really really good, but 2k24 is miles better when it comes to overall graphics, models, and textures
Yup, I think what separates 14 to 24 is the atmosphere of the arena. It isn't realistic if you compare it 24 and real NBA arenas today. But in 2012 to 2014 NBA Arenas look somewhat like that of 2k14 especially Spurs, Pacers and Miami Arena. It just has that cinematic feel to it.
But as you said, overall 2k24 is better because it has that realistic rather than cinematic look. Excluding the player and jersey models, it looks really stick figure like and everybody has their shorts on their hips with a very long vertebrae.
Nope, 2k20 on ps5 had better lighting and graphics. 2k always does this bullshit to make us think graphics are getting better, when they regress graphics right before the next 2k comes out.

OVA Can you do a comparison of 2k14, 2k16 and 2k24? I think 2k16 actually has the best court and texture graphics with the most well balanced of all of them. It'd be interesting to see how it holds up in all aspects
I think 16 looks awful. Especially in comparison to 14 and 15. Slightly better than 17 and worse than 18,19,20
And 2K14 wasn’t completely finished also, many missing stuff and it was still great.
Player models are better in 2k24 but the color and detail of how the colors of the skin and lighting reflecting off different skin types was better in 2k14

Hair, lighting, and skin tones were all better on 2k14. Facescans and natural gameplay advances are all that 2k24 really has. 2k14 feels a little choppy (but not bad) to play today, and faces were slightly odd- some guys are a bit crosseyed, facial proportions are a bit off, etc.
Crazy how much more realistic the facial hair looks 2k14 graphics were great I just wish they turned the lightening down just a tad bit and the movement was a little stiff other than that I would take 2k14 over nba 2k24 just my personal opinion

Also the nets physics look perverted good in NBA 2k14 on consoles and NBA 2k15 on PC. The start of the PS4 era. NBA looked great till 2k16 and starting with 2k17 started losing something. 2k17 was still acceptable. It got really bad since 2k18 and further on. I have installed 2k15 and 2k23 (last gen PS4) on my PC. 2k15 looks sooooooo much better it's flat out crazy. There's more variations of everything in 2k15, the way the ball enters the rim after shooting, the jersey physics, the net physics, the movement of the players. Only the classical players like MJ look MUCH better in PS5 era as i feel like they didn't even scan them properly in 2K15. EVERYTHING else looks waaaay better in 2k15 compared to let's say 2k20 or all those NBA 2k games that were still last gen (PS4). Graphics odlf the NBA 2k games didn't improve ONE BIT throughout the ENTIRE PS4 era, lol. They looked the best at the very beggining of the era. Which is insane.

Got 2k24 for ps5 and i felt like, all right looks good. Then i went to 2k14 for Ps4. Im still shocked by it graphics, lighting, sound atmosphere. It's the true next gen and always will be, lol.
2k14 has physics, with the shoes they crease when the players walk, the jersey movement as well, I have always said it but 2k24 with 14 physics and lighting would be awesome, 2k24 has graphics and the face scans, 2k14 player models are just very doll like? idk how to describe it but its just less to life than the 2k24 models. but nonetheless 2k14 was the best game to introduce next gen graphics with in 2014, and now I cant wait to see how far the ps5 can go.
