Today we're so technically advanced that the video does not seem as crazy now as it was in 1995, i think there are even apps today for some effects but back then, it really was unseen and super expensive and special at the time. One of the most expensive videos ever. Piece of art.
I love how much appreciation you have for Madonna's artistry and creativity. It's been such a joy watching you discover her (or in the case of Take a Bow, realize how ingrained into your childhood she already had been). Awesome reaction to this incredibly unique music video. Also love how into the Bedtime Stories album you are. It's a totally underrated album and deserves to be gushed over for the hidden gem that it is. I'm dying to see your reaction to the Ray of Light album as well. For me, Madonna in the '90s and 2000s is the ultimate.
Well said! I’m a lifelong fan and I love seeing these reaction videos to her older albums. Bedtime Stories and Erotica are two of her best and underrated albums ever.
Fun fact: this was the most expensive video at that time even beating Michael Jackson’s scream. The director was Mark Romanek, and bjork wrote this song for her. Iconic.
The images here are inspired by 1969's The Colour of Pomegranates and the works of female surrealists like Leonora Carrington. It is the first ever video included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art
These are some of artists that she has in her personal art collection that is moved around her different homes. So for security no one really knows where are pieces are at any one time. ❤️
In the original video surrealist art: 1:43 Leonora Fini - The ends of the Earth (1948) 2:20 Remedios Varos - Los amantes (1963) 2:37 Leonora Carrington - The Giantess (1947) 3:03 Remedios Varos - La Llamada (1961) 3:41 Leonora Fini - L' amitié (1958) 4:05 Frida Kahlo - Diego y Yo (1949)
The story behind this album was very nice: Madonna approached Bjork to produce the entire album. Bjork wasn't interested in a whole album, but she did write/ produce Bedtime Story. Madonna then named the entire album Bedtime Stories, as a appreaciation for Bjork's work. Very nice bonus story.
Bjork was of the many people who wrote the song. And Madonna is the co-producer and changed it so much that Bjork didn't want to be associated to it anymore, apart from the money she got of course, which was probably 10 times the whole money she has earned with her songs😂. This song is 15% Bjork and 20% Madonna.
Grew up in that era of videos and the sheer quality/ meaning behind them will never be topped or forgotten. Madonna is really a legend of her own. great reaction bud
Until 2005 the video was shown in several modern art galleries, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where it is kept in the permanent collection
One of my best friend at the time ask me if i want it to go see madonna at Webster Hall to promote the video for Bedtime Story and of course i said Hell yeah .. It was an Awesome Experience ..Love the video and the song as well..
The sound and beats in this song are incredible, the best of that era. Surprised you didn't mention that Bedtime Story was written by Björk. This might be a reason the song feels different from the rest of the album.
The song was initially CO-written by Bjork, not just her. Then it was given to Madonna who co-produced it and changed it so much that Bjork doesn't like being associated to the song since it's totally another song. Just read the credits of this song and you will see lots of authors (not just Bjork) and the co- production by Madonna herself, who has always been in full control of her music.
@@sebastianocostantino1 Not to suggest it's the case with "Bedtime Story," but It should be mentioned that Madonna has been accused in the past of claiming writing credits for merely changing a couple of words. And as for Bjork, her indifference in the video below is really all that needs to be said about her involvement with "Bedtime Story." th-cam.com/video/HzxmCRfW4mk/w-d-xo.html
It's funny that you mentioned Minority Report (2002) because another sci-fi film The Cell (2000) starring Jennifer Lopez took inspiration from this Madonna music video
Bjork's version of "Bedtime Story" is great too, it's been released in two versions "Sweet Intuition" and "Sweet, Sweet Intuition". the song is generally regarded as a response to the lack of intuition in the modern world and how dream is as valid as a state of consciousness as the awake world.
I’m so glad to see how passionate you are about this album. It’s changed my life. I remember buying a physical copy of this CD. Also, facial hair is very becoming on you ☺️ looks great
The best "reaction channel "on TH-cam. ....Smart, informed , insightful and genuine . It is such a joy and breath of fresh air to watch someone who just gets it , is open to new music and has such an appreciation and love for real artistry ....Thank you for all of this
The music video for "Bedtime Story" has received generally positive reviews from critics ever since its release. It was exhibited and permanently kept in different art galleries and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art as well the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Amazing video - considering how much it cost I was kind of pissed they didn’t use the full 5 minute album version as this edit version kind of cheats it a bit - I wish she made videos like this still and it’s directed by the amazing Mark Romanek who also directed her other 90s masterpiece Rain 😘 I miss this Madonna 🥺
OMG, this is brilliant. did you know this video was played in select movie theaters? did you know this song has some lyrics by BjorK? did you know she dropped this right before rave culture went mainstream? Hope you do Bjork in the future. Her album Debut is a great place to start
Nice and I would loved sanctuary to be a prequel video to bedtime story, It would be nice as hell and I would imagine it being directed by the same director for bad girl and had her something to remember hair in 1995, and for it to be the 6th and final single(after inside of me which should have been a single)
• I adore this MV, specially the part with the white birds, because (If i'm correct) it refers to her pregnancy. I think it's really beautiful, and it's a topic she's going to talk about more in Ray Of Light
It's a tragedy she skipped the tour for this album, especially because it's a fan favorite for so many. I just saw an interview where she said she would fit in a tour even with Evita on the table.... sadly she's only performed live 2 songs from this album on the full run of her tours. I'm certain we will never hear Sanctuary live, not even once... that could have had a killer tour performance visually and sonically.
Written by Björk from Madonna's 'Versace period' and proved to me, that we sometimes hear what we wanna hear - because for a while I thought she was singing 'Let's get unconscious on E' and not 'Let's get unconscious, honey' :)
8:26 Dude... this video has so many references and symbols to the pop culture, art, folklore and mythologies that it would be impossible to write that down in one comment. My friend is running a Madonna fanpage where he wrote down everything about the video he could find out, but it's in Polish :P
She was inspired by the paintings by Remedios Varo, Frida Khalo and other female painters. Also from some old Turkish movie and of course the twirling dancers from Turkey. Check out those painter worjs and you'll be amazed
Most part of the songs in "Bedtime Stories" album were ahead of its time. This particular song and video were extremelly underrated. But somehow I like it that way; the real scent of the album is only for a few... =)
No one in 1995 knew how much this track was a signpost to where she would go musically after Evita was done. Even Marius DeVries who was credited as a song writer and producer on this track and she brought him in for the Ray of Light recording sessions. ❤️
I'd suggest to find on TH-cam Bedtime storie 4k animated storyboard. It shows more ideas of the video, some of them were abandoned due to difficulties with filming.
A visionary artist. Simple as that. Her intelligence and inspired creativity know no bounds. Think of the work and inspiration involved in creating this video. She is a big art collector and it was the first thing she bought when she started earning the big bucks. She was one of the top 100 art collectors in America and her art collection is worth over $100 000000. She owns multiple Frida Kahlo paintings and has always been heavily influenced by art. She dated and lived with Basquiat for a long time in the early 80's and Keith Haring was her best friend for years. The stories this woman could tell... J
Madonna is a true Performance Artist. You you g pups don’t know the references she makes - she appropriates visuals from well know periods / artworks. Here she uses Surrealism as the main reference. A true artist.
This is one of the 5 most expensive videos of all time (3 by Madonna and 2 by Michael Jackson). Some scenes remind of "The color of the pomegranates", a 1969 armenian movie (even "911" by Lady Gaga reminds of this movie).
She got a GRAMMY NOMINATION for BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM for BEDTIME STORIES...but i HONESTLY FEEL like she should've gotten a NOMINATION for BEST MUSIC VIDEO - SHORT FORM yo... I MEAN DAMN, the VISUALS...the visuals...those DAMN VISUALS ❤
Also, if you don`t already know that by now, this song was co-written (or written entirely, I don`t remember) by Bjork - another musical and video legend of the 90`s and on, that you should check out. Perfect match at the time. Two trailblazers in their own way. Check out ”Violently Happy” by Bjork, you`ll notice stuff related to Bedtime Stories. Cheers from a new subscriber across the pond :).

Thank you so much!!! Yay!!!
The way watching you react to Lana Del Rey was a blessing never seen a handsome man listen to a gorgeous woman slayyy
That would’ve made sense; to have a double feature of Sanctuary and Bedtime Story; especially, being that she didn’t tour the album.
HER BEST SONG. timeless..... bjork man!
They aren't random images. They are all influenced by paintings done by female expressionists some of which she owns herself
i have the remixes cd with like 10 remixes and the jr vasquez remixes WOW amazingggggg egyptian style omgggggg awesomeness
