- Tesla is off to its worst start to a year yet, and many other manufacturers' shares are trading at record lows. Elon Musk's electric vehicle maker lost more than $94 billion in market valuation in the first two weeks of the year. Rivian also reported disappointing deliveries early this month. Bloomberg's Craig Trudell reports.

GM shut down production of the Bolt and now their ultium based battery EV's are having software issues, not good!
Chinese 🇨🇳 electric cars are *heavily subsidized* by many levels of Chinese government. Some people bought them, threw them away without driving, and still made profits.
- That's why there are millions of new cars abandoned by owners across the country.
And this is not an exaggeration.
Sad to see comments like this.
With weak EV sales and weak China property market means weak copper prices
Replace "weak" for "oversaturation".
Why transition to a technology that is a downgrade in convenience and practically? When has society ever transitioned to a technology that makes life harder rather than easier? Yes you can charge from home but at the cost freedom where you cant travel outside your charging range.
Well said, I quite agree.
The charging range is like 500 km, how much do you need lol?
you obviously do not own an EV more specifically a Tesla CHARGING ON A ROAD TRIP IS A NON ISSUE. We have been on many road trips in oures and it is never a problem. My wife brought something up about pumping gas in very cold weather you need to stand outside a freeze to do this as she noticed over the weekend as we drove past a gas station all the people standing out in the sub zero weather. Anyway you add it up the Tesla EV is far better, and there are some Tesla models that are less than the average cost of the average price most people pay for a car.
I drive from LA to SF and it's easy. @@edo3169
The consumer is more used to gas-driven vehicles than EVs.
EV sales here haven't really taken off after all the hype and supposed people who couldn't wait to get their hands on one. A couple of years ago it was about 2 in every hundred cars you saw was an EV, now it's only around 5 in every hundred you see. It's definitely not anything like 25% which is what I would consider a huge uptake of people wanting an EV, that would be very noticeable when out on the road. There's a lot of shortcomings, not just range anxiety either, in the background of EVs that's stopped people from buying one.
Telsa model y is the best selling car in the US n world so???
That was only with the early adopters. Hence why Musk is forecasting slower sales for 2024 and a fall in their share price.@@felixpropertymanagement7342
The sales figures are in. EV sales are growing.
@@markthomas7279 Really, so that's why Musk has predicted that in 2004 sales are predicted to slow down and the Tesla share price has dropped substantially.
Very balanced Craig, good job. Especially the rarely covered "scar tissue" issue. Don't think the other commenters actually watched the segment though.
Someone forward Craig the charging stations in the snow…I’m sure those batteries “ran out of juice”… your closing argument 😅
Tesla cars do not start in cold weather this year in Illinois, very bad news
Sounds like Big Oil spreading fake news. They don't have the problem in Norway and 70% of cars purchases are Tesla. Isn't it cold in Norway?
Yet they start perfectly well in Norway and Sweden. Perhaps the cars are racist??? 🤡
Would you have reported this when Tesla was top dog? Now that BYD is beating all other brands, this is reported. Very fishy...
the most american made vehicle is Tesla. sales are up not down. legacy needs to make a compelling product if they want to compete.
The cost of these cheaply made vehicles need to come down by around 50% in order for the masses to see value in them. Otherwise, it makes no economic sense to ditch an ICE vehicle that's paid for for a vehicle that will take 10 years to pay off (high intrest rates, overpriced vehicles). Heck even ICE vehicles are getting to expensive, but EVs cost on average 30% more to buy and even more to maintain (new tires every 12k miles due to weight of car and the instant torque (my truck tires last over 30k), there aren't any EV mechanics and so far 3rd party repair for Teslas/Fords/ etc... don't exist.
EV chargers should be free for everyone that live in the city, especially those that don't have driveways (Apartment buildings, row housing etc...) the city or federal government should pay the electric bill for these chargers as a way to say sorry for the inconvenience of having to charge and park far away from your residence.
Actually, Tesla admitted sales have slumped, Tesla shares lose over 12% or over $50 billion in value.
I think the people who can afford and want a tesla have gone out and bought one, and they probably dont want a new one
I'm perfectly happy to let early adopter beta testers spend their money for overpriced, rapidly-depreciating and under-supported EVs while all the kinks are worked out. Right now, the only electric vehicle that makes sense to me is a golf cart. 😂 Maybe I'll consider one in 10 years.
Have you priced a model 3 or y? Clearly not
Oh and Tesla just issued their largest recall yet. Nearly every one from the past 12 years.
@bydarkwaters2055 that's an over the air update not a recall like your news source calls it. Does your phone get recalled after an update?
BYD is trash.
Draining batteries in the cold and lines of EV in the cold was laughable. Still an immature industry.
Sounds like Oil company bots are out today.
They work fine in Norway and Sweden!! I think they are reeeeeally cold countries. DYR 🤡.
Research before speaking
Tesla is taking over
No actually Tesla is bleeding
@biginchina6730 o how so? Bet you seen that on the news? Clearly haven't looked into it on your own
😆 good one!
@JensSchraeder doin more than anyone else out therer
@@biginchina6730 how so?
EVs are quick, smooth and therefore relaxing to drive. I would love to own one. However, I suspect their resale value 7-8 years down the road will be very poor (e.g. compare to a hybrid). The current state of EV technology is very much like the early days of cell phone or flat screen TV technology. In 7-8 years the current crop of EVs will be so outdated I doubt anyone would want them unless they are dirt cheap! IMHO it's probably better to lease than to buy an EV right now. But if long term resale is not a concern then go for it and enjoy the benefits of owning an EV.
Have you priced a used tesla?
America afraid American find our how great China cars are
Eevee's are junk I drove electric hi lows for 15 years they always broke down batteries had to be replaced all the time and now they had to get Dad to get new high lows because the other ones were so bad they had to replace all the high lows a long time ago gasoline is the best vehicle and at work forklifts high lows are the best gasoline or the number one
FAKE news. Do you work for Big Oil?
Hello
Heyy
HELL YEAH, down with electric cars, please can we realize no one wants to pay for a $30,000 battery replacement.
We already have a green solution for every gasoline car, it’s called Eco Diesel and it’s made from ponds, and literally every car can be converted to run on it.
We really need to wake up and realize Electric cars was the wrong choice
First of all it's not 30K. Teslas have driven more than 300k miles on same battery. How long do you own your car before replacement?
Of course not. That's why you don't need to.
That doesn't happen however the duramax in my gmc is 30k
...but it did happen@@felixpropertymanagement7342
