In literature, the tomboy character is typically 'allowed' a queer existence up into adolescence and is then rerouted into heteronormative feminity, and that seems to kind of correspond or extend to our typical idea of tomboy fashion too - like you said, you had to figure out ways to express your tomboyness without being perceived as an adolescent because our society, as reflected in literature, doesn't typically allow for that space or has not created it normatively.

Yeah that's really weird! When I was smaller, it was fine, but now for some reason people think I want to be a boy and I like girls just because of how how I dress....even though I dress the exact same way?

I LOVE structured clothing! I feel like it's a great way to wear oversized clothing in a simple outfit and still look very put together and intentional in what you are wearing. All you need to wear is a t-shirt, jeans, boots, and some minimal jewellery, and boom, a whole classy outfit if the fit of the clothing is on point! I love in because in my experience it also works on bigger bodies if you can just find the right fit and size (lydia okello is the first example I can think of). It can take a while to find the right pieces especially if you're fat and curvy, but once you do t's not a TON of work when you're dressing.
The number one thing this channel has taught me is that fit and the way clothes lay on your body is everything, and being aware of and intentional with the fit of my clothes when I buy them has saved me time, money, and makes dressing so much easier! And it personally makes me feel a lot better about my body as a fat nonbinary person who felt this style was inaccesible to me. Thanks Jade!
