way way back in the day, Alienware was their own company and made really nice machines. They're quality immediately went down after Dell bought them out.
I read that as well but Michael Dell was one of the founders of the company in 1996 as well. The story was when Dell aquired them in 2006 they where supposed to be separate from their efficient manufactured computers because the alienware took longer to make. I think they aquired alienware because it would of hurt the sales of the XPS series 🤔 idk though
IIRC didn't Alienware use standard ASUS maonboards at one point before the Dell merger? I remember them using either the P5B lining or P5W DH Deluxe mobos.
@@modstek Where did you read that Michael Dell was a founder of Alienware? I've been following that company since the late 90's and have never heard of any interaction between the two until at least 2003/2004 when the A51 Predator (in that classic, sexy alien green) came out and Dell expressed their interest in the company (which was also when Michael Dell was starting to step down) which resulted in a lot of the brands fans saying it was a bad move. The manufacturing and supply of Dell that occurred as part of the acquisition is what absolutely killed the quality of Alienware, and worse when Dell started handling their support channels too.
Fun thing, I'm commenting from a Aurora R2 with the stock i7 920's, only mod done is a new GPU and with some overclocking I can still play new releases in 2023. That's some pretty decent work for a computer from 2009.
Awesome! I was worried about spinning the fan with the compressed air though while it's still plug in. I've seen lights and voltage partially power the motherboard. That was the only time I ever did that I'm lucky I didn't fry my stuff 😱
Great video! Im finally getting a brand new PC: -10900KF -Asrock OC Formula -2x32GB Ballistix (rev E) -RX 5700XT (TUF) Im pretty excited, even though its not necessarily because the performance is much better over my own budget gaming PC.
I just installed windows 11 on a core 2 duo a few days ago and it was cake to bypass EVERYTHING. I'm sure the bypasses will work even after the final release so What's your reasoning?
I wanted 2 was thinking maybe a ryzen setup with current rgb or something. Get some aliens airbrushed on the side panels? Idk or just acrylic side panel
Alienware really turned to crap once Dell got their mitts on em. Hotboxes. At least before they tried to be a little different before. And all they need is a little scrubby-dubby. Fun vid man! 👍
I'm thinking of running a similar cpu upgrade to the intel xeon, how did you know which bios version and settings were needed? I'm also looking for version a11 bios online but so far no luck. Awesome video thank you for sharing your experience. I'll be glad if I can get our old family PC in similar shape to yours
I want this for the case, but it is impossible to get this in Brazil. There is zero listed at all selling platfoms. My plan is get the later model r4 case with the openings on the top so I could get a xeon processor on there
Back about ten years ago, someone gave me one of these to salvage and rebuild after my primary machine died horribly. Step 1 was to get everything out of this stupid case and into a normal case where it belonged. I think I sold the case with the rgb hub and the AIO cooler to a collector for enough money to go from 3 gb of ram to 9 gb.
I just got one of these with a i7 4930k and 16gb ram gtx 780 and 3tb but I have a gtx1650 super already that I can put in it so hopefully it will be a nice little gaming pc !
I love these things hoping I find one to restore myself that 6 core xeon can still put down some numbers with something like a gtx 1080. look into a ultra sonic cleaner reference tech yes city it will make life much easier for you, just make sure u snag a power supply tester so u can drain the energy out of the parts before washing
Never ran into that before. Is it bsel tape modded by chance? Did you update the bios? Maybe check windows boot up to see what's enabled. I really haven't come across that even when the bsel mod goes wrong it underclocks the cpu it doesn't remove cores.
@@modstek I did do the tape method, I've done it a few times in the past but I took it off last night to see if it would fix it and the pc would turn off and on off and on off and on so I cut power a few times and the power supply popped so I unplugged it and took every component out besided the 300gb 2008 western digital drive. And it sucks too I just bought this HD 7570 for my girlfriend and I blew up the pc.
I also updated the bios from dells website, I was checking in the bios while troubleshooting but nothing was working, I also changed the cr2032 battery maybe that couldn't had something to do with it but I don't know
Alright. this is hopefully not too old of a video to still get a response hopefully I recently aquired a r3 for free from someone on facebook marketplace, boots fine etc. my issue for my restoration is so far the top mesh cover. How did you remove yours? I've only read in one place that the side covers must come off for it to release. But theres nothing solid i can find on the net.
It was so hard to watch you blow air to that little fan at high speed when it was still hooked up to the motherboard you could easily hurt the motherboard because that fan can put power the wrong way on the motherboard and pop campacitor or anything else important on the motherboard
@@slimjim2321 bahh I've been doing that for years there's even a video proving that a fan even spinning at insane speeds wont put out enough juice to hurt anything
I normally have em unplugged and the battery out for cleaning but dropped the ball on that one. The only thing that i couldn't get working was the ethernet port and command software working in windows 10. Drivers would install for ethernet but idk still wouldn't go. although it did come wireless card just no antennas.
@@mrhappy8966 I've never heard of damaging a board this way so I'm with you on that, but I know spinning a fan with air to the point that it squeals destroys the bearing. I've seen it happen. Two ways actually I had a ssd with windows 10 on it already to see if the motherboard was still good and then reinstalled it with Rufus via USB. Make sure bios is updated and no security features enabled and then set up windows with Rufus switching to bios and older computers.
Those cases are so rare you could sell it for quite a bit even if nothing inside works. People want them because the newer AlienWare cases are garbage. You can even put a standard Micro-ATX board in it.
