My dad found a pc thrown out with an i7 2600, asus board not sure which one, Gskill 2x4 8GB ram and a decent aftermarket cpu cooler and a be quiet 400W bronze PSU and it is fully functionall. All it needs is 2 more stix of ram to make it 16 and something like an rx570/580 and there's a beast 1080p gaming pc!

I live in a unit here in Sydney NSW. It's quite a large complex and we have council cleanups twice a year. As a result there is often HUGE piles of rubbish dumped out the front. It honestly amazes me what people throw out. I snagged a working first gen i7 pc a few years ago. Also snagged some gt 710s and even a 750ti once. Unfortunately, it's getting rarer to find old pcs on the roadside because the bloody council has banned putting computers out on the cleanup anymore. You are now supposed to take them to a special 'ewaste' collection point. Council rates increase yet the services decrease :/ The last cleanup we had only 1 person broke the rule and put out a pc this time. But it was some old pentium 4 garbage with no ram or HDD.

I've never found a PC on the side of the road, but I have found a nearly new CRT TV with the remote here in the US before about a year after the digital switch over in early 09, but I do often find some good stuff at the local recycle drop off in the e-waste bin like working Apple Macbook Pros, fully working Amazon Kindles(they usually just need a battery), I3, and I5 HP desktops, etc... So yeah I love these kind of videos as I hate how much e-waste we as humans tend to create over the years, and love showing people that some of this older gear can still be very useful.

Up here in Canada (a bit off the beaten track, Aussie POV-wise, I realize), I paid $150 CDN for a GeForce GT 1030 2GB DDR5 and it was a real "deal" (for a card that realistically should have been about $70). When you throw in GST tax, shipping, etc., these cards end up being REALLY expensive... anything that will run modern games at a decent frame rate and resolution is unaffordable.

It always irks me when some rich kid throws away a perfectly good gaming rig just because one little thing doesn't work right or they messed with it, ruined it and asked their parents for a new one. I used to live near a big garbage dump and they had a section specifically for PCs and PC parts. I would pull so much working stuff out of that pile it wasn't even funny. One example was a rig that was perfectly fine except it had a dead video card and mismatched RAM (a 533 stick and a 667 stick). I bought a budget video card (Radeon HD 7750) and some Corsair RAM and got the thing up and running for about $250 USD. Ran well for years.

I would have chucked in a xeon from aliexpress, the x58's still hold up very well in 2021 as you know. Still an amazing build for the money. There haven't been great gpu deals recently, you have to keep your eye open.

Yep GPU prices are insane, I upgraded my PC about 2 months ago and got a 3060 which was the only GPU I could find at the time, which was overpriced. Out of interest about a month later I decided to check what the price was and it had gone up $400 and this was from the same computer store where I got it.

I built a _banger_ out of parts I had lying around as a spare for my son simply to play Diablo 2... i7-930 + Corsair H80i AIO, Gigabyte X58 UD3, 12GB Corsair RAM, Galax GTX-970 SOC, 250GB Samsung SSD, 1TG Seagate HDD, Corsair CX 550 PSU & Lian Li PC-P50. Only thing I bought was a Silverstone PWM fan controller ($22) and keep all fan under the control of the H80i's liquid temperature.

A gigabyte x58 with an i7 and a GTS 250 seems eerily familiar!
Mine, with a few sticks of ddr3, a w3680 from China and an RX580 8gig I rescued from a miner during last summer, got me through the 2nd wave of the pandemic like a champ!

I just resurrected a 3770K asrock extreme 4 with case with ssd, wifi, Noctua U 12S, and hard drive for grand daughter. I added a Nvidia 950 GPU I had and it runs like a top. Cleaned up the mobo and case well and it hums along pretty well. Ivy Bridge copes pretty well with modern day tasks.

Wow! What a nostalgia. 10 SATA ports on this motherboard. I have never seen any current motherboards having more than 8 now.

@Tech YES City , you absolutely need to do a tutorial on cleaning up a PC like that, what products you use and stuff like that!

Who leaves a working x58 motherboard by the side of the road. Youd have to pry mine from my cold dead fingers! So jealous of your find.

Good find. I used to find some sort of tech in apartments dumpster once maybe every month. I live next to big semiconductor factory, they employ lots of people from all over, India and china. Large disposable incomes that get spent on tech. Once they are here long enough to buy a house or their VISA's are up, they move and throw everything away. Lots of good stuff, like new. Unfortunately the homeless population has exploded during the pandemic together with our lax'd drug laws, it has brought in a lot of new scavengers. I find nothing now or will at times get interrupted by a tweaker looking for anything he can pawn.

Would be a hell of a twist if this was a system you built and flip a long time ago! X58 boss built so many PCs he can't remember them all XD

Was everything good with the temps on rx570? I noticed the thermal pads tore a little bit. I have change my paste one day on my Rx 580 think its been 3 years now. Its just a pain to find .75 mm thermal pads last time I looked for them.
