    URGENT MESSAGE FOR PAUL: As an old, old hot rodder, I built a '57 Chevy 210 with a 409. Don't tear apart your steering, quite yet. To possibly solve your tie rod problem, try to find a Tri-Five POWER STEERING tie rod, which allows for a longer sump. My HP 409 fit like a glove, wearing this PS tie rod. I think MOOG still builds the tie rods for those old cars. PS: I sent you a Contact email through your web site with another recommendation for you: If your original radiator won't fit, try a Tri-Five, SIX-cylinder radiator and mount which provides for the radiator to fit nicely IN FRONT of the radiator crossmember, making the install look like the factory planned for a bigger engine. Good luck!

    I love your channel. Always have, always will. One small point, though: that long, thin piece of black metal you got from Adams is in reality a drive SHAFT, NOT a drive LINE. A drive SHAFT is exactly that: a shaft. (Some proper folks call it a "propeller" shaft.) But it is a SHAFT. A drive LINE is all of the stuff between your power plant and the driving tires (front, rear, or everybody, depending on the vehicle.) Just saying. And, yes, I am really old and persnickety. LOLOL

    • @benjurqunov
      @benjurqunov 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It's not strictly shear of the bolts what transfers torque.
      The friction between the clamped together pieces carries much of the load.

    • @sarahstephens5966
      @sarahstephens5966 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ok, if we round it to 400 TQ, times a 1.6:1 torque converter, times a 4:1 first gear, then times three because the driveshaft flange is closer to 4" than a foot, (foot-pounds) then divide by 3 bolts, the shear load is roughly 2400 pounds per bolt. Which is fine because the use of a torque converter prevents shock loading.
      Having operated a driveshaft shop, my own feeling is that those 3 bolts have more torque capacity than the thin tubing of stock driveshafts.

    Its probably too late or possibly expensive to consider, but you can get dry sump kits that generally improve oiling reliability and allow you to use low profile pans without a sump. The dry sump systems might not work with the K member on the frame, however.

    On the engine mounts . I ran a metal blackstrap around the out side . The polyurethane will eventually come loose. And the strap will hold it all together.

    16:07 Probably an optical illusion, Caliper appears to be very close to/rubbing on the hub of the rotor. Seems the caliper may fit too deep onto the rotor. If so, caliper bracket radius maybe too small.

    FWIW Paul was correct in saying 10cm is not 4" (approx 25:25), actually 10.16 CM = 4". I for one would rather work in tenths rather than eighths, or 16ths.

    The 55 is probably the best year of the tri-five's . This particular one is literally rust free, complete and I've seen quite a few that were well beyond repair but the builders refused to quit...this one is definitely a diamond in the rough and worth a fine dollar just as it sits.
    The point I'm making here, this particular 55 deserves the best as in car show build quality but with drivability , dependability, enjoyment in mind and not a garage or trailer queen. The only way to get there is newer technology. This is the one car that will always be cool no matter what era you were born. Updating the complete drivetrain is the best route in order to take this over the top.

    Did You figure out solution for the Steering and Brake Hydraulic Pump? Consider using a 12V electric Hydraulic Pump if you have not already come up with something. Yes they make them! You can get a custom kit from Summit Racing for some sort of JEEP or find a new/used/reman one from 02~08 year models of Mini-Cooper cars. You will need some more juice from the alternator, but that should not be an issue, since the Later LS/LT engines usually have huge alternators to begin with.
