In Monster Hunter: World, players gear up to seek and slay ferocious monsters in an incredible living, breathing ecosystem. They won’t be heading into battle unarmed though! Players can choose from 14 different weapon types based on their preferred playstyle and these can be changed mid-quest, depending on what the hunt demands. We have a sneak peek at the benefits and unique traits of the full arsenal in three new videos narrated by our professional hunter.
This video demonstrates that there’s a vast range of unique weapons for players to choose from, whether they’re new to the hunt or already a seasoned veteran. Each weapon type has a different overall playstyle and characteristics which are showcased in the videos. Swords and blades can be useful in cutting damage and executing fast paced attacks, impact weapons like hammers can cause high damage and stun opponents whilst ranged weapons such as bowguns allow you to attack beasts from afar. If the hunt is too overwhelming, support style weapons can be very useful such as the hunting horn which plays melodies that provide buffs for the team.
Depending on the type of foe and quest goals, it may prove useful to change gear mid-quest back at base camp. Players are never locked into one weapon type so they should keep different options on hand. Which weapons will you wield for the hunt?

My favorite types
Switch Axe: Definately one of my favorites. It just looks awesome and has my favorite amount of power and speed to it.
Charge Blade: Pretty useful in is versatility.
Bow: Classic weapon, but there's gotta be a sick variant of this weapon somewhere down the line. It IS Monster Hunter.
Lance: Sure, this makes you look a bit like a valkyrie, but...
Gunlance: ... this one makes you look like a metal as fuck valkyrie. Not my top favorite, but still awesome.
Sword and Shield: Kinda bummed there's no switch port, cause there'd be a Master Sword and Shield version for this weapon type

This looks so fluid compared to the old games I seriously can’t wait for this.
The old games were very fluid once you got into them a bit. It just looked kinda crummy since they've all been on old or handheld consoles.
Joshua Paul I think you’re confusing my use of “fluid” as meaning responsive. I’m not talking about controls or responsiveness, just the transitions from one animation to another is much smoother visually now.
Fair enough, the old games really don't have the greatest graphics.I do hope World doesn't trample the old artstyle, though.
Joshua Paul It seems to have retained a lot of the old style while still modernizing it. Honestly I would like if the game mirrored the handhelds visually but I get that they’re trying to appeal to other audiences outside of the MH die hards like us.

Any true Hunter knows how awesome this game will be. For all newbies...I recommend going for weapons with shields. As you progress, you will know how to DODGE!!!! So you can use the more skill based defenseless weapons. Dual Swords, Switch Axe, and Long Sword are broken. Only if you are broken though. The game is 90% skill, 10% gear. I recommend only doing melee in your first play through. The game is an entirely different beast when you are using ranged weapons. It will be really exciting to conquer the same creatures using different mechanics. It really made me appreciate a good Gunner, when I had to learn to be one.

Man, the weapons look like they've been fleshed out much more, lots of new movements, animations, and
overall abilities. Things like moving while using items with the sword and shield, strafing shots with the light
bowgun, air dashes with the insect glaives, this looks REALLY, REALLY good.
I tried the beta for this game and i personally loved the "fire blitz" bowgun...so awesome

Holy shit, the bowguns look so amazingly fun! I never though I'd say this. The longsword also seems to be the one that has changed the least, interestingly, considering it changed so much from the second to the third generation. I had given up on MH since I couldn't get excited for 4-generations but this is bringing back the same joy I felt back when I was looking at MH3 trailers and getting all giddy about them.

My top weapon picks?
1. Sword and Shield - Fast, defensive, and item usage for utility...perfect.
2. Dual Blades - aggressive, bladed blender.
3. Greatsword - normally don't like over-sized, impractical weapons...but this one has style. Guts-build.
4. Light Bowgun - mobility and ranged option. Scout build.
5. Heavy Bowgun - they won't know what hit them.

This entire video is just so mmmmmmmmmm. Ever since branching out and trying every weapon, aside from Lance and LS being my weakest plays, I can't decide between the others on which ones I love the most, or which I technically main, and with the new tweaks to the weapons in World I'm even more torn, lol.
Seeing that high launch with the SnS gave me goosebumps..
Throughout time the gunlance was a personal favorite, a mixture of a gun and a melee weapons just screams cool.

Enforcingxhunter breaking and cutting parts of a monster is important to get better loots on a monster for better gear crafting.. ranged weapons are not good at breaking parts and they cant even cut.. ranged weapons are good for support in party hunts but not advisable in solo hunts and beginners weapon since at the beginning your mostly a solo hunter at the village quests and your top priority is to craft better gears..

The Long Sword and Light Bow Gun have always been my go to weapons...... Now I just can't choose. Also it's nice to see that they had some of the combat mechanics from Dragon's Dogma added to the game.
Definitely will be the first game I pre-order. Hopefully they have some sort of special edition planned.

GS user since day 1 MH1 on ps2 lol, followed it to psp, then to nintendo’s hand helds and the wii and wii u, now back to playstation for this! Will STILL be using the GS!
I see a few peeps hating on the GS, wanting faster weapons like the SnS, this game is about preference, and for me, the GS’s reach and power make up for it being slow, anticipating monster movements and attacks are what its all about, SnS may be faster and lands more hits, but A GS user needs not land as many and can be picky with their openings!
Couple things to note about GS:
Rolling is your best form of damage mitigation, guard as a last resort and keep in mind it dulls the blade.
Overhead swing and backswing will keep you in roughly the same spot, adding horizontal swing in between will create an endless combo you can use during a monsters vulnerable moments (i.e. when it’s K.O.’d or trapped).
The middle of the blade is the GS’s “sweet spot” you’ll want to be trying to hit the monster with this (I like to think of it as a guillotine when i use the overhead or charge attack) you’ll inflict the most damage hitting the monster with that part (the same does not apply to LS users, you’ll wanna give em the tip ;) )
Lastly, remember, The GS is a weapon of patience, you will spend a LOT of time sheathing your weapon and running around looking for openings, especially when you can unleash a charge attack (like when a tigrex starts turning to charge at you, begin the charge, itll end right on its face and stagger it for example) its not a relentless weapon of assault like DS or SnS (which need to be to make up for the low damage per hit).
Think of GS as a burst weapon and things like the SnS as a constant dps weapon :)
The Greatsword, although being a heavy weapon, is much more strategic than it appears... overall I agree with your point.

It quite is " the support weapon " but yeah, it can be really devastating and is a little bit like the hammer, hopefully some beginners start with it too ! :3
Personally, I see the HH as a “blunt weapon with support features”. Like it or not, the HH is a support weapon since it can be used to buff you and your teammates (which is what a “support” does). But I will agree with you that it has more uses than just support. I see no shame in it being considered a support weapon as that is what it is and the support features of the HH is what makes the weapon more unique and versatile.
Nahomi Baez I used to main HH man, the offensive capabilities of it are meh. You are there to buff your team. But of course they would be focusing the boss while you deal with buffs and boss minions haha. Pretty fun to play but gets boring when you crave for action, look at the first 3 weapons and combos you can do. Haha.
I'd go with left-handed fightin' styles, like the sword AND shield combo.
