I think it would be better to learn from experience because it has so much to it but if you still want to read my thoughts on it, I just really feel like talking about it ;u; the thing I love about this weapon the most is it makes me have to think fast because it gives me a lot to think about. Like... a LOT. Like if you've checked the video and saw that 5* complexity rating it's not lying. That's usually only best for you once you've gotten used to the game, weapon, and monsters. but I find once you reach that point of familiarity this weapon becomes really satisfying once you've gotten things down, especially when you discover new aspects to it that you never knew/realized before. I've found that happened to me a _lot_ when picking up this weapon. With the insect glaive, you have to manage getting attack output, focusing on keeping your buffs up, managing you kinsect's stamina (which actually becomes way easier with the spirit kinsect that some slinger ammo gives it, thank you iceborne) and making sure it stays marked on the monster so it can keep dropping clouds all over the place. As everybody else always says to those who ask about the glaive, don't just jump around all the time, because the glaive builds up the best damage on the ground! Another thing I discovered is don't be afraid to spam your bug attack at the monster when it's way out of reach/fleeing and you need time to catch up with it. Just gets some minor damage accumulating on it, but I've also discovered sometimes I can accidentally flinch the monster (and on rarer occasions, break one of its parts with the bug). Definitely be sure to keep upgrading your kinsect so it can become more effective. Main point is, don't neglect to think about your little buggy!! You definitely will need to get used to the weapon, but once you do, focusing on all of that during battle is much easier than it sounds :b I'm quite aware that I've possibly scared off a bunch of people with those paragraphs because not everybody wants to manage so much at once and those who watch this video are potentially very new to this game. But I'm at least hoping to reach out to the others who are like me who enjoy being given a lot to think about in games like this! I feel like that's one aspect of this weapon I rarely see explained to people. All I ever see is "je suis monte." :b
freohr789 yeah, Insect Glaive and Switch Axe are like tied for my secondary weapon. I’m a charge blade main, but i love weapons that enable you to have vast depth in the multitude of styles you’re able to utilize with just one weapon.
The idea of the glaive producing the best dps on the ground is outdated tbh. If you build the weapon correctly it hits big numbers from the air aswel as the ground, giving allround play. I usually hit 3(160-230) for using the R2 slam out of the air on a monsters tenderised head, plus I use blast, stun insect to either increase a free 300 blast damage number or create stun build up, works amazingly (3 circle ground attack will probably do about 350 damage total and airbound circle will do in the region of 200-350 attack depending on how many hits connect... However it leads to the slam whereas the triple circle ground attack is a finisher, so airborne for continuously higher dps ☺️ hope this helps
Way late but I found that as a complete noob abusing aerial let me ease into reading the monsters by giving me more escape options. As I got towards HR I started paying more attention to extracts, actually using the canteen, QOL armor skills and better crafted items. As I got into MR I was able to transition to more ground/DPS-focused play, slinger buffs, clutch claw, equipment, and monster-oriented decos. I don't think there's anything wrong with jumping straight into IG because you really don't need to get into its complexity before you're ready to take that next step. Plenty of time to get familiar with the basics first.
Useful combo for longsword : after preforming your spirit combo to gain a spirit level, instead of letting the sheathing animation finish you can do a manual sheath and continue attacking after your basic slash, this is a great combo to go crazy on the tail. Just watch for your teammates
The weapons I use the most is the great sword, long sword, sword and shield , insect glaive and charge blade with the most mastered weapon which is most of the weapons I use except the charge blade I can't seem to master it though
Aquatic my friend plays hunting horn main. I’m a charge blade main. He and i are SUCH a good tag team, we just roll through everything. One time we teamed up with another two person team and after hunting for awhile one of them said “you two work REALLY well together, it’s like you know what the other person is going to do next before they do.” They were amazed at how little we had to speak to each other to coordinate our attacks. Playing with him has given me so much respect for hunting horners, because their support capabilities are so amazingly helpful, and when someone is really good with it there’s nothing they can’t do. He and i are really close friends in real life, so i think that contributes to our cooperative gameplay.
All I know is my bodies ready....to get roflstomped by Glavenus and all the monsters I’ve never fought before but BRING IT ON BEBY! Nice video too I’m learning CB and DB right now and as a LS main I’m very excited!!! Sorry for tripping any of you...
Thanks for showing what the new changes were for the Iceborne expansion. This'll come in handy once I get started on it. For me I'll still be using Switch Axes, Sword and Shields and Insect Glaives like before😁👍
How to fight with a hammer: Step 1: get the damage buff Step 2: bonk bonk bonk bonk /dodge/ bonk bonk SLAM Step 3: charge up to lv 3 and do more bonkin'. Sometimes you can stagger a monster multiple times in a row so you can continue to bonk the devil out of it. Step 4: get pissed at sky monsters when you run out of flash pods, lookin at you, my ol' buddy, my ol' pal, Rathalos.
rewatched the videos, to check how to guide a newcomer friend, just realized how much love you put into it, the order of the weapons is the inverted order of the base game video
@@tinyhaze1409 I love how they put Alatreon's scythe for the Long Sword just recently into the game, except the majority of people who still play haven't really had fun trying to obtain it lol
Quick question about switch axe. You say that the heavy slam buffs your axe according to your phial type. As in there are different versions of power axe mode?
Brooooo this video was so helpful! I just bought the game and Iceborne isnt out on PC yet, so this video helped me pick a main based on future update :D
If your friends like the speed run playstyle, the bow, heavy bow gun, and greatsword are some of the more popular solo speed run weapons. All weapons can be used for speed runs of course, but it seems these weapons are more popular and have the faster completion times.
I can hunt pretty good with all weapons except the lance. I just cant get a good feel for it. My first main weapon being a noob was the light bow gun. Then I moved on to the gun lance. After learning the others [not mastering though] I finished with the hunter horn.
I don't even use aerial moves that much; I just love the Insect Glaive for its massive reach, fast attacks and good combination of horizontal and vertical strikes that can be chained together seamlessly once you have a Red charge. Plus, the kinsects are cute.
Nice vid man, personally, id just tell them to try the easiest weapons to start with, and leave others like CB or GL for later, thats if they want a smooth introduction to fighting monsters, i started with the hammer and later on i moved on to the cb, which was incredibly hard for me to master, loved the learning process though
I'm a long time veteran, and as such, this video and it's content is nothing new to me, but, your eloquence and delivery made this video enjoyable. I think that if I was new to MH, I would be real hyped to try these weapons, because of how you described them. Good shit.
the hammer clutch claw attack isn't limited to charge level 2 and the sliding attack, you can also use it after a stationary charge 3 to perform what is pretty much one of the best ko attacks in the game
This is a great video for those who are looking to start MHW. I've played for awhile and I main a few weapons, especially dual blades because I love to shred with them. Using this video I might start to main with all weapons. I'm definitely recommending this to some friends I play with
Hammer is badass as is with the clutch claw. GS I agree but I guess they wanted to keep is simple as always. The hard part of the GS has always been knowing the monsters and timing your attacks, not long or complex combos.
really? for me sns > charge blade difficulty, charge blade was simple once you know the theory and get used a little bit. all you need to play charge blade is patience and careful with the Powerful Combo Animations. but it just my personal opinion after all
Greatsword it's even harder to me as a Charge Blade main. It's literally, too complicated because the only thing that i can do with that weapon is miss the charge attacks.
@@andrewthielmann5342 No no, really. Charge Blade it's complicated because you need to do like... five things to do your maximum damage. Not for timing, like GS. GS needs to charge your attack. Wait an opening and hit your attack. I can't do that, idk why hahaha
Type in charge blade combos, another youtuber breaks it down so simple the best moves. It's so worth learning. If you deflect when charged just do a whirling slash right trigger and b button at the same time. Keeps from deflecting and is one of the quickest dps charge blade moves.
*I put a lot of time and love in to this video and it would mean a lot to me if you share this everywhere you can!*

Subscribed. Great info for each weapon without taking too much time to describe each. Good job!
Useful combo for longsword : after preforming your spirit combo to gain a spirit level, instead of letting the sheathing animation finish you can do a manual sheath and continue attacking after your basic slash, this is a great combo to go crazy on the tail. Just watch for your teammates
What teammates? 😞
The weapons I use the most is the great sword, long sword, sword and shield , insect glaive and charge blade with the most mastered weapon which is most of the weapons I use except the charge blade I can't seem to master it though
Ahhhhhh my baby gunlance, conqueror of all
Yeah, who needs to know the monsters moves when you can just permanently keep it staggered.
finally gonna rid off all that stone's that i have picked up. Sup fellow Bow main's.
Mikoy TV I agree, we can finally put that stuff to use
loving the effort put into this guide... 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Thank YOU!
Me, A Hunting Horn User: **waits for the word "support" to come up**
EDIT: Really thought he was gonna make it, there. Lol. Gg.
Hh = support = ME SHOUTING IN MY MIC PUT THAT DARN FLUTE AWAY AND GRAB YO self a damage dealing weapon I DON'T NEED UR BUFFS jk
you did an awesome job with this video, great commentary and notes.. I think I'll try to get the hang of hunting horn now.
Thank you
Your ability to detail these incredibly nuanced games is awesome man! Keep up the good work
What's this? Rambo mode got a damage boost? All I need.
If you using no hud with charge blade it glows red once its needs to be stored
Oh boi they buffed my warhorn, doot gal incoming.
@@Thor-Orion I almost cried
Ty for making this video i just picked up monster world and iceborne trying to watch all the vids i can ty for this
Best breakdown of the changes I’ve seen. Kudos to you and I wish your channel ever more success.
Thanks!
man on this point i just have to say. didnt see a video for long time doing exactly what it prommises like this one. rly good job! sry for bad eng.
All I know is my bodies ready....to get roflstomped by Glavenus and all the monsters I’ve never fought before but BRING IT ON BEBY!
Nice video too I’m learning CB and DB right now and as a LS main I’m very excited!!!
Sorry for tripping any of you...
From my experience glavenus is a really easy monster to manipulate and abuse
Thanks for showing what the new changes were for the Iceborne expansion. This'll come in handy once I get started on it. For me I'll still be using Switch Axes, Sword and Shields and Insect Glaives like before😁👍
How to fight with a hammer:
Step 1: get the damage buff
Step 2: bonk bonk bonk bonk /dodge/ bonk bonk SLAM
Step 3: charge up to lv 3 and do more bonkin'. Sometimes you can stagger a monster multiple times in a row so you can continue to bonk the devil out of it.
Step 4: get pissed at sky monsters when you run out of flash pods, lookin at you, my ol' buddy, my ol' pal, Rathalos.
This is possibly the best way i've ever heard hammer gameplay be described
"... and another that allows you to go full Marcus Fenix..."
*Laughs in Heavy Weapons Guy*
I'm so happy that IG will be getting some damage buffs as it wasnt used as much.
rewatched the videos, to check how to guide a newcomer friend, just realized how much love you put into it, the order of the weapons is the inverted order of the base game video
I want to feel like a ninja and have high speed action. Should I go with dual blades or insect glaive?
Dual blades, glaive is more for airborne. Plus you can feel like attack on titan
@@captdynamite2020 Levi Slash is the meta against Kulve Taroth :3
I wish they would put a big scythe in mhw. It would be so fun.
Would recommend darksiders 2 then
Play God Eater 3. It has scythes.
There are greatswords that turn into scythes in the iceborn update
@@glitch4988 oh really? That's awesome.
@@tinyhaze1409 I love how they put Alatreon's scythe for the Long Sword just recently into the game, except the majority of people who still play haven't really had fun trying to obtain it lol
New note for HH :o. I must add this new horn to my already extensive horn collection.
I know you put in a lot of work in both weapon videos but man I really appreciate it!
dang, that was an outstanding video
Thanks!
Great explanation! Liked, commented and subbed!
Sweet! Thanks
I’m glad you have over 100k subs
Thanks!

Quick question about switch axe. You say that the heavy slam buffs your axe according to your phial type. As in there are different versions of power axe mode?
there's 2 types of Switch axes phials. Power Phial and Element Phial.
SyLuX636 I’m aware of the phial types, and there are technically six. My question is about what he says about power axe mode at 10:30
Brooooo this video was so helpful! I just bought the game and Iceborne isnt out on PC yet, so this video helped me pick a main based on future update :D
PC player just watching Iceborne content to vicariously satisfy my desire to play this expansion ; _ :
;_; I feel ya mate. And not in the :" hey why are you in my house rubbing against everything" feeling ya.
I came for a weapon demo and left watching the best possible video i could have found on his topic. Thank you! Keep up the good work
Only true hunters remember the MH4 and 4U Charge blade, oh man
I guess I am not a true Hunter😭
I'm a hardcore hammer main and you hammer play style was crazy good
If your friends like the speed run playstyle, the bow, heavy bow gun, and greatsword are some of the more popular solo speed run weapons. All weapons can be used for speed runs of course, but it seems these weapons are more popular and have the faster completion times.
16:30 Bambi's Revenge
XD that's great
Nah, hunter, you're not outta the woods yet...
Hey this is actually really helpful thanks
No Banbaros were harmed during the making of this video.
NOT TRUE!
I just started playing the game a few weeks ago and have only used the Gunlance, I just love it's defense
I'm a long time veteran, and as such, this video and it's content is nothing new to me, but, your eloquence and delivery made this video enjoyable. I think that if I was new to MH, I would be real hyped to try these weapons, because of how you described them. Good shit.
Where my Bow Bois at?! Gotta love that sweet spot distance, almost feels like dual classing honestly!
very informative thanks!
Welcome!
the hammer clutch claw attack isn't limited to charge level 2 and the sliding attack, you can also use it after a stationary charge 3 to perform what is pretty much one of the best ko attacks in the game
Long Sword + Clutch Claw.
Onimusha intensifies...
This is a great video for those who are looking to start MHW. I've played for awhile and I main a few weapons, especially dual blades because I love to shred with them. Using this video I might start to main with all weapons. I'm definitely recommending this to some friends I play with
I wish they did more with the hanmer and greatsword, but I'm getting my monsters so...
Hammer is badass as is with the clutch claw. GS I agree but I guess they wanted to keep is simple as always. The hard part of the GS has always been knowing the monsters and timing your attacks, not long or complex combos.
God the banbaro tail slice with the great sword was clean
I wish I could get used to the charge blade. I'm just garbage at it. I've been SNS/GS since PS2 and it makes newer weapons hard to get the hang of.
really? for me sns > charge blade difficulty, charge blade was simple once you know the theory and get used a little bit.
all you need to play charge blade is patience and careful with the Powerful Combo Animations.
but it just my personal opinion after all
Greatsword it's even harder to me as a Charge Blade main.
It's literally, too complicated because the only thing that i can do with that weapon is miss the charge attacks.
@@nikvett I feel like you're being facetious...lol
@@andrewthielmann5342 No no, really.
Charge Blade it's complicated because you need to do like... five things to do your maximum damage. Not for timing, like GS.
GS needs to charge your attack. Wait an opening and hit your attack. I can't do that, idk why hahaha
Type in charge blade combos, another youtuber breaks it down so simple the best moves. It's so worth learning. If you deflect when charged just do a whirling slash right trigger and b button at the same time. Keeps from deflecting and is one of the quickest dps charge blade moves.
I know this is an old video but what is the armor or layered armor for when you are using hunting horn? 7:21
Hey did they make is so s&s can run while consuming a potion with the weapon drawn?
Nope.
@@LordangeloxD dang... I cart most of the time because of this one stupid factor...
Well, you can run while consuming an item, but it's not as fast as you would without doing it.
