Monster Hunter World: All Monsters Size Comparison

- All monster sizes shown (except marked with *) are the official sizes by Capcom, no crowns. Monsters seem to be measured in their longest possible stretched model position so size values often seem bigger than their organic visual in the video. Additionally, the character walks a little in front of the monsters making it seem as if the monsters were a bit smaller than they actually are. But in general Capcom did not 100% consistently label the size values in the game. Some official sizes just don't make any sense and we knew that but we felt like we couldn't just change official sizes. But after reading all of the comments of people complaining about several unlogical sizes we decided that the next time we will make a video like this we will measure everything ourselves. If the official values aren't consistent then we will not stick to official values anymore, because at the end of the day we are the ones that are reading these comments from people complaining to us that we apparently didn't do our job properly even though we did. We simply didn't feel like we were allowed to change what Capcom labeled as official. Apart from that we are super proud about this video and more than happy with the final outcome!

Yeah, the lowly Hornetaurs and Vespoids are still bigger than the largest real-life insect that we know of - an ancient dragonfly that lived around 275 million years ago. Based on the fossils we've found, it had about a 2.5 foot wingspan and weighed about 450 grams.
Yeah I've only played rise, I was shocked to see a whole Ankylosaurus here
And despite the massive size difference, we're still the apex predator. Isn't that cool?
Wow, as a mhw player, I never realized how HUGE some of these guys are! When youre fighting for you life you just roll and hit and take for granted the enormity of the monster! I love this video! Thank you so much @TeamDarkside!

I like how organic they look and feel. Also love that the variants of monsters are different enough to be their own thing.
I also love how majestic alot of these are. You would underestimate a kirin if it didn't look so majestic.
The only thing bigger than Zorah is my love for Monster Hunter.

Wow, this is an absolutely AMAZING video!! When she was walking by Odogaron (6:50), I had vivid flashbacks to my first encounter with one. It was a crown, and it was legitimately the first monster in the game that triple carted me. I wasn't even hunting it but when it first appeared, I couldn't say no! I was honestly so terrified of it but so excited. Thank you for all your hard work in this video.
The part when Kirin made it dark with its powerful lightning to Teostra making it bright to with its fire explosion to Alatreon back to dark was very cool.

The size difference between Bracy and Raging Bracy is insane. Like I genuinely forget how big he is. Also, I fought a Bazal not long ago and he seemed very big that hunt.
The monsters vary in size from hunt to hunt he's showing averages
Bazels in particular I've noticed can get massive; I swear I've fought one that's as large as Alatreon
Raging Brachy is so big that you can even tenderize its legs.

That is EXACTLY what we can do in Minecraft.
My husband compares it to a raccoon with a knife. If you or I encountered a raccoon trying to take us down, they really wouldn't have the power to do so, and a knife would kinda just make them a nuisance unless they were extremely persistent.

Right!?! I'm so glad they did that. It felt like a cool callback to the original Monster Hunter Size Comparison, where the light's dim to show Gigginox's light, Narga's Glowing eyes, and Zin's electricity.

The plan was good as with enough small things you can achieve big success, problem is Zorah Magdaros is too strong for the ground to hold those ropes.
The difference in sizes between the "ordinary" monsters and their variants is always interesting. Nice work!

Great video. Very atmospheric. Made me feel the dinosaur-inspired vibe of mh creatures.
To me it has always been the case about simply making the fights more engaging. Like how elder dragons are weaker then their lore (gameplay vs Lore) for many we would tickle toes a lot. I think you did amazing work!
I think they do a pretty good representation of the lore vs the actual fighting. However, I would expect some embellishments when told tales of legendary creatures so take some of the lore with a grain of salt. Most of it is after all, passed down stories.
@@Argonak1 We actually do know that is their actual power. Legends of the Guild really shows it off well. And Lao Shan Lung alone, would just step on a hunter and kill it. So Gameplay is a high priority over Lore and logic.
It goes without saying that a game about hunting monsters has to have great monster designs, but even then it's honestly incredible how good these look.
Even in some games Just about hunting monsters most of the look mid. No one reached the MH quality yet

Zorah Magda rose is actually not a boss you kill but just a thing where you go on top on to find other smaller bosses to kill

I was thinking exactly this. They feel much smaller when youre running them and trying to yeet yourself on to their backs

There's the effect of the camera also, it is close to the ground, making tall objects that are away from it, much taller than they should be.

Gotta admit, my two favorite Elder Dragons are most definitely Namielle and Kirin. And dang, didn’t realize just how large they are just compared to a person walking! I mean, you get a sense of scale when fighting them but seeing them from a different perspective and calm, totally different story. Kirin is larger than the character! I wasn’t expecting that!
You wanna know something scarier? Hunters in-universe are much taller on average than real-life humans by at least a couple feet, so you’d technically be _even_ smaller.

Hi Team Darkside!! Amazing video as always!! I did have one question though...would you have estimates to the sizes of the following small monsters (because the data and games seem a little inconsistent since they're minor monsters):
1. Epioth
2. Bullfango & Bulldrome
3. Gargwa
4. Rhenoplos
5. Burukku
6. Moofah
7. Zamite &
8. Shentien.
I would really appreciate your opinion on them. Loving the lore series by the way. Please consider all Elder dragon.

What i love about monster hunter series, is that failure is experience and preparation is a big factor. Both mechanical skills, preparation and experience were needed for a hunt. And both single player and multiplayer were great playthrough. Wish i had the money to buy at least switch lite to experience mhgu and rise
January 19th, Rise comes to consoles.
Seriously breathtaking. Kudos to the MH team for making such a vibrant, breathing world, and kudos to whoever from team Dark side who did this amazing showcase.
Oh wooow. This is some real shit, getting this video done must have taken a hell lot of hours, and it looks amazing. The references on narga and zinogre were on point, and that injured lunastra should count as fanservice . Hats off, really well done.

@@Gazing-09 no like that’s literally why he’s so furious the lore behind him(from what I remember) is that either through an accident or another hunter his tail was cut off and it’s set him in permanent rage mode.
Amazing work on this, never knew the detail on some of these creatures till now. The lighting and atmospheric changes on the background really borough out the beauty in them.

Purely from a biological standpoint, these creatures are designed incredibly well. They feel highly believable due to their bone structure and animations.
While games like Dauntless just make random monster designs that look "cool" to them but dont understand how important creating a monster from the ground up with a pseudo science perspective, can actually add to immersion and depth of the monster.
Or a game like Wild Hearts where every monster is just: Rat + flowers, rooster + tree branches, poison + bird. All those designs are just so on the nose and literal, that they don't look interesting at all.
Capcom are masters when it comes to monster designs.
man this just makes me reelaize how i really wish there were videos this well made and high quality for size comparison of living animals or expected average size for extinct animals

I was a fan of the MH 3ds games but could wrap my head around the mechanics. MHW changed everything for me. I consider it a great learning tool if you want to try the earlier games. MHW It taught me so much about the games as a whole since I was able to grasp the mechanics a lot better.
Rathian and Rathalos will always be on my favorite monster list including Nargacuga, Barioth, Uragaan, Zinogre, and my Favorite Armor would be the Rathian Gunner Armor Set (which unfortunately didn't make it to this game)

Team Dark Side, I really appreciate all the effort you put into this. You could’ve just went with the regular run-of-the-mill, stationary 3d model with a human for size... but you used the human walking the whole time and the creatures’ regular animations instead. Big kudos :j

Great video. I have a question though. Are the monsters measured lengthwise or heightwise? Cause i think some are measured lengthwise(like the Rathalos) and some are measured heightwise (like the vespoids) so im really not sire on this one. Or are there real height taken into consideration when they stand up?

Seeing the detail and incredible desings of Monsters I've never seen in comparison to the cartoonish (and still awesome) textures of the only two MH games I've played (Stories 1 and 2) IS incredible. I'm a SUCKER for paleontology and creature Desing and I tell you this has bevome one of my favourite franchises.
This is so beautiful so incredibly well done! When the lights went out and it went dark mode, the effects are just magical. Not sure why Lunastra decided to drop just then but ok 😂 . And lastly I like how the character has to run to get past the Goliath that is Zorah.
