    2:34 it's the red one (Micro Sol) you need to soften the transfers. The Blue one (Mirco Set) is to help you get the transfer where you want it, apply a layer first to the area and glide the transfer on top.

    • @peisenxu952
      @peisenxu952 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Lmao I think my reply to this got automodded or something when i tried to edit it. It said "the blue one is not wrong per se, but the red one is much stronger in softening decals like this". I then edited it for a bit of clarity, backed up my information with a source, but the source was the manufacturer's s_ite (which youtube did not like - it wasn't even a link).
      Re-typing the edit here to reiterate: The blue bottle prepares the surface, improves adhesion and softens the decal. if you are a complete novice discovering this video, I'd even suggest starting with Micro Set only first as Sol is less forgiving: it is aggressive and it's easier to tear the decal.

    Mr. Mark Softer form Mr. Hobby also works really well for softening transfers. The main thing I've noticed with any decal softening solution is that you really need to trust the process. Mr. Mark Softer makes the transfers sort of crinkle up at first, which can be alarming, but once it's dry they really look painted on.

    How deep do you score the transfers in order to help them conform to round surfaces?

    • @TableTopReadyYouTube
      @TableTopReadyYouTube  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you want to cut little notches. they are thin and you will cut all the way through, just try not to make big cuts. I find cutting them once they're in places is easier. If the cuts are too big, you risk the transfer splitting, I also show doing transfers in the new beginner ultramarines video. I show cutting them once in place, I kind of rock the blade which lets me be more careful

    Excellent video! I never use a gloss varnish before transfers though, i just use the vallejo decal softener, and then a coat of matt varnish to seal it in, i feel like the ard coat is just a step that you can do without, never had any issues, and any imperfections in you paintwork, will still be there under the ard coat/gloss varnish. How ever i have found issues with "older" GW transfers. Have you had any issues with them? i am talking 10-20 years old transfers, that have been left in a box for use when i master the add transfer step. I feel like its made of a "different" material to the newer ones. The melting processor of the softener ofter ruins the transfer(of the old tranfers).

    • @TableTopReadyYouTube
      @TableTopReadyYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you. Another reason the hard coat is good is it protects the paint from the solution. I found it can strip the paint a bit and wipe away any highlights I had done. I use to do it without it, its not a massive thing, I chose to include it in the video for best practice. I do still use old transfers that I have, but I would always try and find something more recent if I can. They don't tend to soften very well and they easily rip and fall apart while using them. I guess because of the age maybe. always believe people should always do things they want to do. I never think my way is the absolute way it should be done, it's just what I found works for me :)

    • @Brissebrajan
      @Brissebrajan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TableTopReadyTH-cam I have not used the product you are using. But yes i know some products can end up dissolving the paint. Never had that issue with the vallejo other than what i wrote about the melting of older transfers. And it could be like you say, the fact that they are old, and perhaps degraded. The ones i have tried bloats, like the acrylic paint does when you dip it into a solver to strip the paint from your models. Still excellent video! =)

    The website link seems to be broken. I have a question: Can you put an Imperial Knight crest transfer to the side of a Munitorum Armoured Container with this method? Those have pretty high skulls in the middle of the three 'sections' on their side.

    • @TableTopReadyYouTube
      @TableTopReadyYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The link will be fixed but not until Monday. It has to reconnect to the domain. I’ve just had a look at the containers. It would struggle over the skulls themselves. You would be able to get them to sit over the ruts that cross the sections though. I would use the stronger MICRO SOL for something this big. It’s the red red bottle of the two. Just be patient with it. If you want it to go over the skull. I would cut a little cross for the skull to poke through rather than cut a hole. You can trim it later when transfer is set, otherwise you could maybe file off the skull completely? The transfer would have to stretch to much over the transfer. Hope this helped

      @@TableTopReadyTH-cam Thank you for the quick reply. Looking at the container, I also had the thought that it would be impossible to do what I had in mind. I'll try to find alternatives. This is so difficult for me. Doing DA White sword wings decals. They do not conform. When i use the damp cotton swap it almost always moves them. Then the micro sol starts breaking them up. They end up looking battle damaged, which I'm not trying for. It's incredibly frustrating. I really want to master this, but the round surface and flat decals...I can't do it! Ahhhhhhh!

    • @TableTopReadyYouTube

      All I can say is be patient. let the transfers dry for about 15 minutes before you go in with a cotton bud and I would let them soak in the water a god 2 or 3 minutes. you need to be rolling the cotton bud as well, not rubbing it. just generally let things dry and avoid messing around with them as much as you can. You can do it, I believe. keep practicing
