OK - these are great.... It never occurred to me to use that 'difference' mode to align things. I love it! And I'm soooo using that color mode. And overlay for dodging and burning.. Those are great! I've used multiply and screen a lot, but still learned a couple new tricks. Great stuff as always, Colin! 👍😁

I love blending modes. I regularly use screen mode and colour dodge for composites and luminosity mode where I am applying curves adjustments where I don't want the colour to be affected. I often use Overlay and Soft light too. Blend modes are an absolute must learn aspect of Photoshop. 😉

My favorite blending mode when using High Pass is Vivid Light. Whenever Overlay is an option, try the other options, such as Soft Light and Hard Light. Typically, I get the best result with Vivid Light, which adds a pleasing increase in contrast.

Being able to mix is the most important thing, in everything principle. I work with interior pictures daily and use very often the blending-mode "Difference" when I put parts of different pictures (or exposures) together; to be able to align correctly. I have often wondered why I have not seen any of this among the TH-cam channels before. Now I have seen it in photoshopCAFE :-)

I didn't know the COLORblending mode.... Could become very useful!!!!!! Many thanks!!!!
BTW I use screen mode a lot but I use it by duplicating a too dark image then applying screen to the top duplicate. Adjusting the percentage of the upper layer often helps get that too dark layer much closer to a background layer I want to apply it to. Then a little touch up work for perfect matching.

Wow! So, I've used almost all of these blending techniques but had no idea "what they were doing officially" - lol - I think right now my current fav has been "Difference" - as I design clothes for an on-line game and some patterns are just kinda dull, and then I will put a Difference layer on them and it's like "oooohhhhh that's dashingly different!!" Thanks for the great tut's - I'm still rather new here. I've been working with PS (this time) about 4 years - and I've already learned sooooooo much! thanks for the great tuts!!!

This was great! A couple of these I was made aware of a long time ago, but they were never explained in detail like you explained them! The remaining three were I knew nothing of, but know I do! It's hard to choose, but if I must, the color blending mode would be my fav! Thanks much Colin!

Another use for Overlay mode is when you run a High Pass filter on a layer copy. Sharpens without adding the crispies. If grain shows up, a Remove Noise filter deals with it nicely. Add a Layer Mask and you can paint out the areas you don't want affected.
