God is so good. His timing for me to watch this video was perfect. I’ve been anxiously waiting to harvest my green beans all summer long because I’ve been wanting to can them for winter. I’ve never canned green beans before this year and last week they finally started producing a lot! I’ve been so excited….. well, this morning my heart dropped when my daughter told me the garden gate got left open accidentally last night. I went into the garden to find that a deer ate 80% of my green beans, leaves and all. I felt so sad! But I trust that the Lord is in control and I can still praise Him for many other blessings and in this process He is teaching me wonderful lessons.
This video was so encouraging after seeing what happened to your garden and the response you had. Thank you Kelli! God bless

You are such a blessing! My goodness the frustration you have endured the past few weeks. I love the herbs and new mailbox, but what touched me most is what you shared about practicing holding life and people w open hands. You mare me think...I often trust God, but trusting that his will and plan are best no matter what that looks like...esp w people. That's a deeper level. Thank you for being real in your videos. I pray God continues to bless you w an amazing harvest, despite the storms. C

Wow, so many tomatoes. We have been battling deer eating our sweet potato vines, birds and squirrels taking the fruit from our trees and hornworms from our tomato leaves. They are crazy this year. We must have removed over a 100 so far.

My garden went from “pinterest perfect” to “there was a struggle” very quickly! 😂 I have a question or perhaps video request, I love all of your beautiful things in your kitchen & id love to see how you store or organize them. A kitchen tour I suppose.

Hello Kelli! I love your work, you are an inspiration to me in my homemaking journey. Even though I've been a sahm for 8 years, I didn't fully accept (hard to get over the not having a job thing!) or come into it until the last few years and more so now embracing it as a blessing to be my husband's helper. Thank you for your perspective, you are such a blessing and I thank God to have found your channel. 💛
Even with facing those storms you were industrious and used what you had and still reaped a bounty, blessings in disguise. The usnea is a great find! Good medicine. Were you able to get any of the fallen trees chipped? You could try a hugelculture bed with some of the smaller branch stuff. The mailbox post was perfect!
Maybe for the tomatoes next year, try a cattle panel hoop trellis. An investment that would be worth it. We had some pumpkins and butternut squash come up in the old pig pen and set up a cattle panel trellis for it. Best thing we ever did for a garden space! So much squash!! The tomatoes could climb and drape over it and make it easy to pick fruit. Just some thoughts.
Anyway, have a great day and thank you for everything! God bless!

Sadness about your garden😔but better your garden than your house or life! We have had major storm systems in CNY. TORNADOS where we never have tornados! Peoples' houses have been condemned & they are staying in shelters. My garden is not doing so hot this year. We have had such high humidity & hot weather (which I struggle in) that I could not keep up with the weeding. And we have either gotten torrential downpours or no rain for several weeks. Some stuff did well, but other stuff will not. It is what it is. I pray that you get no more strong winds!!!
My new neighbor has her first garden & wants to pick everything before it is 'ready', she is so excited. it is awesome to watch her bloom in time with her garden. I told her that "God made a garden to teach her patience" LOL.
You can bring your green tomatoes in, wrap them in newspaper & box them. keep them in a cool/dark place & check regularly. They will ripen slowly. I do this because we get early frosts & it works! I had tomatoes at xmas. Or use the green tomatoes for canning mince meat or green tomato relish!
I am on a mission to teach my neighbor how to can. We have made dandelion jelly, & pickles last week. I was blessed with a pressure canner that I tested out for her yesterday & it works! now we are going to tackle peaches & corn in the next weeks. We MUST pass on these skills to others & it is much better to learn from a seasoned preserver in person. They can observe you & make sure that you are following the 'rules'. And don't rely on the internet; people share some shady info & recipes that unless you are a master canner will give you bad habits or bad canned goods. I have been canning for 15+ years & it is not hard, just time consuming & takes planning & coordination.

I love your attitude regarding the storm damage! And I loved your enthusiasm for fresh eggs! As a long keeper of said little chickies, I would like to encouraged you not to feed them dried egg shells and here is why- they are adept smellers and you do not want to encourage egg pecking. Chickens are lovely and funny but they are not too bright. They cannot differentiate between " ok to eat" and " not ok to eat". Additionally, I just do not think it wise to feed like back to like. Not exactly the same thing, you def care for your flock, but Mad Cow got its beginnings in this husbandry feeding behavior. A point to consider is what I am suggesting. A bag of oyster shells lasts a long time, or of course you could crush up ones you ate! 🙂

We also had some storms with heavy torrential rain and flash flooding here in NM. Some of my plants took a beating but they were resilient. Hail can be a problem for the nut trees though for which my husband manages many acres of pistachio and pecans. The hail can knock off almost ready nuts or bruise the outer husk with a risk for introducing

Oh my Kelli, what a storm! Yes, there are so many lessons to be learned in our gardens.
I have been meaning to thank you for the "sunshine" in the eyes tip, and since you mentioned it, I will share my experience so far. I have been going out first thing to pray and read while catching the light, even on overcast days. I feel that my vision is slowly changing. I have bad sight as well. It has definitely improved my sleep as well. It has also been such a blessing meeting the Lord outside! I've been a little intimidated because we have a bear problem (black bears) where I live. We have many, but there is one we all call Norman, he is ginormous (500-600 pounds minimum) and saunters right by where I sit regularly. I keep my bear spray at my side and stayed prayed up!

My goodness I’m sorry for the upheaval the storm caused but what a blessing that you didn’t suffer mass damage. The new mailbox post is quite fun! It matches so well with the garden as a whole.
I have had to garden with open hands from our very first garden in 2020. I tend to be a personality that likes immediate results for my efforts. I most enjoy crafts and projects that produce my desired outcome quickly. The garden was no different. I had to learn everything and it meant transforming how I approached things. It’s been hot here earlier than normal and now we’re experiencing weather that is still hot just not scorching. The early intense heat took a toll on the plants and it’s disappointing to not have the production we have had in previous years. Much like matters of faith, we can plant the seed but we don’t always get to see the blessing of a life transformed. The garden has been seeded but the harvest may not be in tomatoes on my schedule but the lessons learned while walking and talking with the Lord feed my soul in ways I never would have guessed and at a much slower pace without the immediate results I thought I wanted.
Oh! I got my tea order, thank you. I love how sweet the package looked and the note included on the tag. The attention to detail and the effort to make the purchase feel special is something missing today in big business.
Thank you for being true to your convictions and for sharing encouragement to all your followers. 🤗

I wonder if putting a corner brace at a 45 degree angle and about 1/5th the total width on each side of the conduit pipes would help with sagging and overall strength and stability? First you ran over your neighbor's mailbox, now you had to replace your mailbox. 😂

    • @shervin6711
      @shervin6711 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Or more conduit and create cages, then put pipes across onto creating a square arch. Much studier. But the angle braces are stronger. Save your straight branches, that is likely stronger too, you could angle those and put a branch across, that is likely stronger as well, no need to stop your beautiful tomato forest!❤

On the Usnea. I saw a video where someone said it "OOsnea" Rhymes with You. I have learned to not criticize if someone pronounces something wrong, because that means they learned it from a book. And I very often mis-pronouce things for the same reason. So don't feel bad!

We freeze our cherry tomatoes and use them for shakshuka all year . And freeze your large ones for a big canning day if sauce .

On your garden. I am sorry for the trouble you are having. I know the feeling!! But I have a couple suggestions. Drill holes in the pipes, and put very sturdy wire through them, to tie them together. Also, put a pipe sideways to connect the pipes between the rows. Also, drive the pipe in the ground pretty deep. Maybe that will help a little bit! I like to use really sturdy things for anchors, such as cow grade gates, put in a square. I did that on one spot. Then tie sturdy things like square tubing to it to create a high trellis. And I put braces underneath in the middle, if it is sagging. But I do a lot of cross pieces to create stability between rows. I have used T-posts some, but usually, they aren't tall enough for indeterminate tomatoes. I use a lot of cattle panels or concrete wire or net wire fencing on top of my raised beds, tied to T-posts. Then I put a cattle panel or concrete wire or net wire fencing on top of that to create a canopy for the tomatoes to flop over on, and I can reach through the wire to pick the tomatoes.

you are so lucky to have learned that skill from your mom! I have had the opposite....I learned & then had to teach my mother after. I'm 43 & most of my peers did not learn these things from their moms, because our moms were working or never learned from their moms. OR they didn't want the inconvenience when it was easy to buy canned goods at the grocery store. I even grew up on a farm!!!! & we only had a garden 1x - so we pretty much never gardened, my mom didn't can or put up any type of food, we didn't eat any of our livestock (it was a dairy farm with NO other animals than cows), my father did not hunt or fish.....my mom does not sew, knit, craft, build, etc...she has NO hobbies, no skills were passed on other than help with school. My mom really resented her station in life, so I don't think there was any incentive for her to prepare us for that. I learned everything by trial and error. Now she only wants to know how to can because she thinks the country is coming to an end, so it isn't even an enjoyable activity for her, just an obsession. 🤣 Oh, well. For me it is fun & satisfying.
