The first is the European/German norm while the latter belongs to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association. Even though I've only done a quick search on the net it appears that indeed, NEMA seems to shy away from the term "natural cooling" while it is widely used in European classifications. While, pm motor can have movable shaft to distant the magnets to weaken the mag. field and result would be match in rpm, with similar el. capacity eating. With one more advantage, adjustable torque.
