    Thank you sir from the deep of my heart. From the topic synchronous motor one question was coming in my exam. I felt it would not affect if I leave that question. Still before the exam I thought to get basic knowledge about synchronous motor. So I watched your video. And I was extremely happy because I was able to attempt that 14 marks question. Thank you sir. Great support. Keep making educational videos..

  • @directajith
    @directajith 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Synchronous motor is a doubly excited machine i.e two electrical inputs are provided to it. It’s stator winding which consists of a 3 phase winding is provided with 3 phase supply and rotor is provided with DC supply. The 3 phase stator winding carrying 3 phase currents produces 3 phase rotating magnetic flux. The rotor carrying DC supply also produces a constant flux. Considering the frequency to be 50 Hz, we can see that the 3 phase rotating flux rotates about 3000 revolution in 1 min or 50 revolutions in 1 sec. At a particular instant rotor and stator poles might be of same polarity (N-N or S-S) causing repulsive force on rotor and the very next second it will be N-S causing attractive force. But due to inertia of the rotor, it is unable to rotate in any direction due to attractive or repulsive force and remain in standstill condition. Hence it is not self starting....BUT WHY SQUIRREL CAGE SHAPED ROTOR IS USED?

    • @antonb1026
      @antonb1026 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +AJITH THOMAS I believe the squirrel cage bars are affected by the rotating magnetic field (RMF) such that it produces a force which begins to spin the rotor (see 2:46)

    • @siddhartharay1835
      @siddhartharay1835 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I believe this cage turns this motor into a induction motor and causes intial start

    • @tashfiquehossain3109
      @tashfiquehossain3109 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think, the SQUIRREL CAGE is not needed. The DC power supply to Rotor or a parmannet magnet will give push to start the rotor to move from inertia.
