    After the mariners won in the 11th Servais came back on to the field to celebrate with the team. Is that allowed or could he end up getting some sort of discipline from the league?

    • @CloseCallSports
      @CloseCallSports  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Nice catch. MLB has disciplined players/coaches before for coming back onto the field after a walk-off hit (Bryce Harper suspended one game here: www.closecallsports.com/2016/05/mlb-ejection-032-brain-knight-1-bryce.html) & John Gibbons was disciplined for coming back onto the field during a fight after being ejected earlier in the game (www.closecallsports.com/2015/08/mlb-ejections-143-145-jim-wolf-1-3-tor.html). Different situations with other variables, but they're not supposed to return after being ejected.

    Apple _really_ needs to stop playing at broadcasting. Leave it to the people who at least do it halfway right, stop trying to replace local broadcasters familiar with the players and their idiosyncrasies, and for FSM's sake stop regularly trying to show off your supposed statistical factoid genius with "Joe Blow has a 27% chance of striking out. [on 0-1] Joe Blow has a 35% chance of striking out. [on 2-1]" etc.

  • @tawtam1
    @tawtam1 ปีที่แล้ว

    I realize your site tries to use all of the analytical equations ect... to explain the strike zone. The bottom line is that these umps are not using that same data to make a decision. It's based on what they claim they saw. My biggest problem with this is that you only show a couple of pitches and rightfully so, you can't post an entire game. But, most of the time it's not one pitch that upsets a coach. It's the lack of consistency is their major issue. I am official myself and I know how hard it is and no official is perfect. But, the problem with major league umpires, NBA and NFL officials is two fold.
    The first problem is there seems to be no accountability when they screw up. You hardly if ever hear of anything happening to them and most of the time we hear a bunch of excuses for an awful call. Generally, I don't like when people to talk bad about officiating. But, when it comes to professional officials it's difference. One, because they get paid 6 figure salaries and every other position in society that makes that much money has accountability. Either to a board of a directors or a CEO. And maybe these professional officials do have some sort of accountability. The problem is it's secret or an unknown 90% of the time. When there are secrets you have something to hide. So, it becomes a trust issues with fans.
    Secondly, they don't want coaches to say anything about them or they get fined. You can't have both and expect people to have trust in the way the system works. No one knows if cheating is going on or not. They either need officials answering questions to the media or they need to be more transparent. And to this point neither is being done. I personally know of officials that got suspended from working a certain number of SEC games just to be sent to the Sunbelt and do games there. What kind of punishment is that? But, this conversation is about professional officials. There is a huge problem with it right now.
    Yes, some enjoy all of your science behind where the ball is and why it's called what it's called. I have zero problem with that. But, you can you answer the elephant in the room's question? How have they been calling the game until that point. If they all of a sudden started changing the strike zone, rather the strike is correct or not, that's a huge problem. Players nor coaches can adjust to the way you call if officials are all over the place calling one thing or not earlier in the game and then start changing the way they call. That's the biggest question in my opinion and why these coaches get mad a calls at a certain time during a game.
