  • One of the only blockbusters to come out in recent memory, With director Patty Jenkins back at the helm and Gal Gadot returning in the title role, “Wonder Woman 1984" is BACK and this time, she's in the 80s. BUT is this movie everything you could ever WISH for? Find out what Kevin thinks of the film, as he takes a deep dive review into this big huge action adventure. And if you're lucky, you just might learn a thing or two along the way. The film also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Kristen Wiig as The Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Max Lord, Robin Wright as Antiope, and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta, and other names for the algorithm!

    Gotta say, it's really weird to see people in an Antiquities department writing off an artefact like the Dreamstone as lame. Even if it had no actual power, archaeologists would be ogling over its provenance, asking what it was used for (and how), if it had any religious significance, etc. For example, there are ancient models of sheep livers that were used to help people practice haruspicy (divination by liver). Obviously no historian today is using them to read signs in dismembered sheep, but they still can tell us a lot about the people that did use them.
    Anyway, great video!

      @@bonzupippinpaddleoxacoppil484 I haven't seen the full movie, so maybe they say it's fake there. I'm just going off the clips used here, where the implication seems to me that they just don't think it's all that interesting and worth studying, which would be an absolutely bizarre response. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    I think most people missed this, but I felt like the movie was actually trying to BE a cheesy 80's action film. It emulated a lot of tropes from action movies of that era - I mean, the main villain (Max) and the truck scene especially I swear were ripped straight out of an 80's action flick. The problem with it is that it didn't fully commit to the period aesthetic and I think that's why it fell flat for a lot of viewers. It's a cheesy 80's action movie without enough cheese or enough 80's. If they'd gone all-out with it to the point of being _Thor: Ragnarok_ or _Stranger Things_ levels of 80's-ness, I think it might have gone over better with audiences. Even the nonsensical plot points and leaps in logic might have worked better because they would have come across as being part of the 80's action movie experience as opposed to just being weak writing points. Idk, that's just my thoughts on it. I enjoyed it for what it was but they seriously missed out on at least using some actual 80's songs in the soundtrack to add to the overall atmosphere.

    • @user-zh4vo1kw1z
      @user-zh4vo1kw1z 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I heard quite a few reviewers mentioning this though.
      But yeah, it never really commits to it, which is a running theme in the movie. But it's a weak reason to put it in the 80's. And it's the only one I can find.

    • @saygoodnightkevin
      @saygoodnightkevin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I think that would make sense, if they had kept it going with the whole movie. But it mainly only exists in that first mall scene, which I actually thought was fun, if that's what the movie was going to be. And then Max throughout the film was hamming it up. But the rest was very different and empty. I think they missed a big opportunity to explore the 80s the way they explored WW1 era in the first movie.

    I feel like you're not really getting what happened with Steve and only Diana "seeing" him. It is not that she LITERALLY sees Steve Trevor, but that she emotionally sees this other guy as Steve Trevor because Steve is possessing his body. The camera work is for the sake of the audience. It's very creepy, but the movie lets you forget that during most of the runtime.

    You have so many clever comments and takes in every video, I can’t comment or bring up all of them. XD The fruits of the spirit was a pretty great joke, and pointing out freaky inconsistencies like a woman being in two places at once in different shots.
    I'm glad you went in trying to like it, even if you didn't end up liking it in the end. Sometimes things surpass expectations, but sometimes, they fall just as flat as the consensus has warned you.
    One thing that I do that you didn't for this movie is that I DO nitpick for every movie I watch, even the first time. XD I feel bad for people around me, but when you're so enveloped in all the details of making the art you're consuming or have a background in it in some way, nitpicking is just a natural part that comes to me now. :/ I'm not even thirty yet and I feel like a grumpy old lady that scowls at teens, but I will own it. I want to make good films some day (if ever) so tearing them apart is a good step to figuring out how NOT to do things and finding ways to make them better. :)
