  • Pure Flix and Alec Baldwin's brother walk into a Christmas tree....And out popped this movie! With a star studded cast, like Ted McGinley and Brad Stine, is it enough to win the war to save Christmas?! That's what Kevin is set out to find in this in-depth exploration of Christmas with a Capital C.

    I love how these movies take a situation where the "Good guys" are legally wrong, and then turn it into standing up for god, and not the constituotion they every other time seem to worship heh

      Yeah, that's how insanely bad the writing is in these stupid Christian movies. Honestly, I wish I could ONE movie that isn't Prince of Egypt or King of Dreams that is actually good

    • @wolfwing1
      @wolfwing1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      not seen king of dreams, but ones I like are.
      Book of Eli, VERY Christian film, but still very much kick ass.
      Omega code 2: Meggido, think left behind but done well and more sticking to the spirit of the end times, rather then all the baggage like the rapture and such. Also prety well done, special effects and such are cheesy now, but for the time it was pretty good closer to a hollywood budget and plot.
      End Of The Line: Weird horror film with a crazy religious message...but I actually liked the plot of it and the twists, though listening to other reviewers, a few have pointed out that there may be a secret twist that changes the entire film if you pay attention.
      for worst, I have to say life Life Zone, just pure propaganda with a vineer of horror, with a pretty good twist ruined by the message of the movie and the twist.

      If you like say goodnight kevin, you might like godawful movies, they are here on youtube I think, they review Christian movies from a atheist slant, right now they did the first 3 tim lahaye films that he did before he started the left behind.
      Though warning, as they said in one of their opening profanity stingers, "Warning, this profanity may contain a podcast."

      RecklawTheAmazing it's because most if not all conservative conventions tout god and religiosity above all else. It's a core ideal in the conservative movement. There are indeed conservative atheists, but I'd be willing to wager there are many, many more liberal Christians than conservative atheists.

    ... Okay I'm not a religious scholar, but last I heard... Christ wasn't part of Jesus's name. IIRC, his birth name was just Jesus, and if people wanted to get specific it was Jesus of Nazareth, denoting where he was born. Christ is a TITLE.
    /Nitpicking

    • @ThatRandomEncounterGuy
      @ThatRandomEncounterGuy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      “The C comes from Christ”, and totally has nothing to do with it being a proper noun like Halloween, or the Statue of Liberty, or California. Even for a title drop trying to justify the name of the movie, that’s a really shitty line; it’s right up there with Collateral Beauty.

    Yeah, why does Christian cinema like your content? Do they just know that the content they sell is bad or are they actually smart enough to know that reviewing movies negatively makes them more popular unlike a certain Savage.

    • @saygoodnightkevin
      @saygoodnightkevin  7 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      I think that, since they just sell the movies, they are encouraged by someone educating the audience to ask for better content. Like, it only makes their site better, if Christian movies start to get better. That's my guess anyway.

    May I offer a recommendation for one of you next reviews? I'd like you to review the Oscar-nominated 2006 documentary, "Jesus Camp". It's not exactly like the other films you've reviewed, but more of an eye-opening (albeit disturbing/intense) look at the evangelical indoctrination of kids. It also provides a lesson on why this kind of indoctrination is wrong, or maybe even child abuse. If you'd rather not, or if it doesn't fit the criteria of the films you usually review, that's fine-this is just a recommendation.
    P.S., you're videos are great, and your "Left Behind" (2000) review is HILARIOUS!! I hope you have a Merry Christmas, and God bless!! ✝️😃😀🎄

      I'd love to see a review of Jesus Camp! It's one of my favorite documentaries and I love how the directors aren't heavy handed. They show that, yes this is just a sect of Christianity and not all Christians are like that, but the ones who are like that cause real damage not only to the kids but also politically.

    Does Christian Cinema ALWAYS have to preach about something? Is it not considered "Christian" if someone is not being saved or something about the religion isn't rescued in some way? Can't Christian movies just be a story about something that occurs that just happens to maybe have people in it who are Christians? Can't there ever be random shenanigans, or funny road trips, or overcoming a challenge that does not directly involve the church? I'm not being snarky I legitimately want to know, can there just be for example clean movies that have a story, first second, third, act and all? Can't Christians just be entertained sometimes?

    okay...what the heck is wrong with movies and comedians. I swear I've hear Brad Stine before. I could have sworn he was funny in what I heard. And yet....he's horrible in this. same thing goes for Michael Jr. in War Room. I would say maybe stand up comics aren't meant for movies but I saw Bob Nelson in Brain Donors and..he was actually funny in it. So is it just "Christian" films that suck out the funny out of these acts?

    • @EZ-IZZY1995
      @EZ-IZZY1995 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Chol .Yerlow Yeah, I think its the scripts. Most comedians make jokes out of daily situations, stereotypes, and flipping narritives on their head. But in these films, you cant do that. They would a)steal the show b)and it would derail from their "Christian Message" (because self referential humor is bad I guess). So there you go, the boring, corny, unfunny sidekick with no personality

He epitomizes Christian victim culture as well as cashing in on the angry Last Real Man Alive stereotype that some people have - everyone with a differing opinion or lifestyle is what's wrong with America to him.

    I'm trying to decide if making Mitch a "good" guy would have been more or less cliche then just making him a "bad" guy.

      Plus, they bribed into being nice.

    TBN is forever showing this movie and somehow I managed to see this movie WAY too many times...I wish I could agree with you on Brad Stine being the best character, but if you've seen his comedy shows (which are awesome, by the way), he's literally word-for-word quoting his own stand up comedy for most of his lines in this movie. Seriously. Search Brad Stine on youtube with the word Christmas and watch his bits on Christmas - it's basically word-for-word. LOL

    I think what would be a more interesting movie is if Christians had to face other Christians. There are 40,000-ish denominations, all with different, often contradicting rules. I know for a fact that the Evangelicals I live around would be very very upset if a Calvinist teacher told there kids there was no way for them to go to heaven (Calvinist are predetermineist).

      Honestly I find it weird in quite of a few of these Christian movies they act as if all Christians are the same and have the same exact values and beliefs, when that isn't the case. Rarely do they show any specific denominations or difference between Christian beliefs.
      In fact I would argue a lot of "fighting against Christians" comes from other Christians

      Man, THIS. SO MUCH. Whenever I hear "America was founded as a Christian nation" I want to say "You do realize at the time of America's founding Catholics and Protestants were burning and murdering the shit out of each other, right? And that who was being burned and murdered changed with the government? That's WHY the founding fathers looked at England and said 'That's not gonna be us.'"

    Even just the title of the movie "Christmas with a Capital 'C'" points to just how silly Christians like the ones in this movie are, the ones who cry that "Christ is being taken out of Christmas because now multi-faith/secular holiday displays exist and some people say 'Happy Holidays'!"
    Um, they are aware that, technically, Christmas has nothing to do with Christ in the first place, right? It's a bunch of traditions from various pagan winter solstice celebrations that got mashed together and repackaged as a Christian holiday; it's not the actual historical day Jesus was born. Sure, by all means, Christians should celebrate Christmas as marking his birthday and what that means for them and their friends and families, but anyone who says "Christ needs to be put back in Christmas" as if Christmas was a completely original Christian holiday that has since been ruined by (fill in the blank) is kidding themselves.

    At 26:00 you talk about its YOUR decision to say Merry Christmas, however as I learned recently if you work at Target, Walmart or basically any big chain you HAVE to say Happy Holidays, no matter what the customer says or responds with. Not a big point but I just thought you should know some people really don't have that freedom lol

    • @saygoodnightkevin
      @saygoodnightkevin  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In my media law class in college, we learned about how "Freedom of Press applies to the one who owns the press." Meaning, an employer (maybe a news paper or tv station) preventing you from printing a story or saying something on the air is not censorship. However, the government preventing you from printing something using your own equipment or resources WOULD be. I believe this also applies to employment for a company. Target is responsible for the actions of its employees while they are on the clock and acting as a representative of that business. They are free to request employees to restrain from saying things to their customers, just as their employees are free to quit their job and start their own chain of stores, or refuse to work for a business that restricts them in that way. Target can't stop you from quitting based on your principles. If they could, it would be slavery, and THAT would be wrong. haha.
      That's my two cents on the situation. :-)

    • @antifagoat6591
      @antifagoat6591 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      When you think about it though, isn't it kind of way to protect minority rights among employees too? If every employee says a non-religious thing, that keeps the employer from discriminating based on religion. That way, if you're Jewish, Muslim, etc, you don't have to worry about greeting someone with a holiday you don't celebrate.
