GPS LOSS OF POSITION ALARM | ETO TROUBLESHOOTING

We had this Loss of position alarm in our GPS system. I managed to fix the unit and sharing you the step by step procedure I did in fixing the unit.

Recommended to put metal cable tie
Plastic will break after some time
Good Job
Also for drying put in silica gel
It removes moisture fast

Nicely done, good follow through and to include reminder about working aloft permits.
There are times, when the issue is not on board the vessel. Always good to maintain a back up plan/alt means to navigate. It is a very uncommon occurrence but has happened - both in loss of consistent satellite access and with "others" distorting the signal/intel.

additional info po...sukatan nyo yung likod ng gps unit..sa may kinakabitan ng antenna....dapat may approximately 5 to 7 volts DC...pag mababa o zero yung sa display unit may sira...pag ok naman....connector , cable o antenna na mismo sira..any passive gps antenna( coaxial cable gamit) means kahit koden, jrc .furuno etc pwede ipalit.

Need mo muna i check ang end mo para sa power supply and cable connections para may report ka din in the end kung sakaling di mo siya ka troubleshoot in the end. In the process doon mo din makikita yung mga troubles niya sometimes

Good pm sir, tanong lang po ako sa gps din namin, hindi nag display yung COG, BRG. Posible din ba antenna din ang problema.

I work for a telecomm company in Canada and all our celular switches and syncronization is derived by GPS.. Over the years many of these antennas have failled because of water incursion. The anyennas are flat plate log periodic type antennas.they are usually trash by the time we open them up.

Too bad in shipping we often not having spare antenna esp when sailing in pacific that requires 2-3 weeks before we arrive to the next port hence we always need to do whatever we can to keep the unit working

@@leckyjake it looks like that antenna amplifier is all weather sealed. Electronics at sea must take a real beating. Love your videos.. I am a technician and use many of the same troubleshooting methods as you.

We do not have spare available. We requested for a new antenna and replaced the whole thing including the cable after receiving the requisition
